- Tiger Hill, one of Suzhou's most iconic landmarks, famous not only for its stunning natural beauty but also for its deep historical and cultural significance. Located on the outskirts of Suzhou, this hill has been a cherished site for over 2,500 years, and it's known as "the number one scenic spot in Suzhou."
The hill's name comes from an ancient legend. It is said that after the death of King He Lu of the Wu State, his tomb was buried here, and a tiger’s den appeared on the site, leading to its name, "Tiger Hill." This legend adds a layer of mystery to the hill's already rich historical tapestry.
One of the most notable features of Tiger Hill is the Tiger Hill Pagoda, which is often referred to as the "Leaning Tower of China." This unique pagoda leans slightly to the east, resembling the famous Pisa Tower, and was built during the Tang Dynasty. It's an architectural marvel that has stood the test of time.
