This time we'll take a look at the evolution of one of the most iconic video game themes in gaming history: The Super Mario Bros. Theme! Please enjoy :)
Really nice intercutting of the music and gameplay footage here. Watching the whole video, at least for me, is an incredible nostalgia trip that really makes me think about how far the Mario series has come, how much ground they've broken (even if not necessarily with every single entry), and also how old some entries already are that I still remember being totally fresh and new when they first came out. This also kind of suggests to me that there is no one single Super Mario Bros main theme, because every game has its own variation (or often many variations) to the point it's hard to pin down a single definitive version, unless it's the one from the original NES game. My only criticism is that the song picked to represent the theme from Mario 3 is a weird choice that definitely clashes with the others.

I was born at the literal exact moment where gaming was in its infancy and was blessed enough to play vast amounts of games. To watch the progress of the game world over my short 10 or so years I could play games is insane!
Interesting, so there's a slight difference between the OG Mario theme and the Lost Levels theme. You tend to hear the Lost Levels version i think whenever they re-release the game i think. Lost Levels song is slightly faster, and the music sounds a bit sharper.
I think the odyssey one is the closest to the Sister Marian inspiration by Tsquare back in ‘68, I’m sure Koji Kondo loved being able to compose a piece with the big horns and jazz feel like that original inspiration

I have never played Super Mario Sunshine, but I recognized it anyways. I later realized that it was reused in a minigame in NSMB DS. I’m not sure which one but I think it’s the trampoline game.
