- In this video I talk about romantic era fashion, how that particular time in fashion happened, what were it's characteristics, and make a late 1830s dress. The dress I make is my version of an original housed at the Met.

The biggest difference between mine and the original is that mine is silk dupioni while the original is satin.

I always watch your videos and learn so much from them so I thought I must (finally!😂) comment to tell you. You are the dressmaker’s dressmaker. So knowledgeable and you convey the information so well and entertainingly. Your dress looks beautiful and you couldn’t have found a more perfect and romantic setting to show it off in. I always end up rewatching your videos (I’ve seen some of them three or four times!) and I’m already looking forward to watching this one again this eve. Thank you for all your hard work 💗💐
Thanks 🥰 I'm glad to hear you are enjoying them ❤️
Ditto! Tho I never type it out so I’ll just ping this comment lol. Well said👏🏾
The fabric you used is absolutely lovely, and the gown is very flattering on you. I enjoyed the hairy behind the styles as well. Thanks for all your hard work.
I love the history and class analysis you include in your videos. It really helps put the clothing styles into context and provides a framework, or reference as to how class distinctions were communicated through fashion and clothing. I find those poofy sleeves quite ridiculous, but they served a purpose and made a statement about status, wealth and class. Excellent! Thank you.
Beautiful!
That’s a lovely gown 😻
Great video 😃 Fantastic work. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Well done
So lovely! Did you eyeball the skirt pleating at the waist? Looks so evenly spaced!
Yeah, originals are typically just eyeballed so I figure if it's good enough for them it's good enough for me 😜
@@sewthroughtime Well, it worked beautifully. I will also try that instead of over thinking the pleating next time. Thank you for your reply!
Beautiful! How long did it take for you to make the gown?
I think about a week
