Jon Mess, screamer, writes lyrics that go with the music, so sometimes its just gibberish, but sometimes it goes with the song or with what Tillian is singing. Listen to Tree City Sessions Man of the year of you want to hear how amazing they are live. I've seen them live, Jon and Tillian are just impressively talented. The band is amazing. You guys should catch them if they come to your area, you'll love them. They're going on tour soon.
Really cool thing about Mess' gibberish lyrics: they're actually made to accompany the percussion of the song. He uses his vocal cadence to add an additional rhythm instrument to the song and I've never heard anyone else do anything like it in music.
Can confirm they do sound like this live. I was skeptical my first time then Jon came out fucking screaming and tilian hit a crazy high note in we own the night and after that I knew I'd made a wonderful decision.
Man I almost cried when you mentioned the bassist. He recently passed, RIP Tim. We're waiting on word for the album. Lmao he actually says "checkin my views," he's singing about being social media-dependent cause he's addicted to the attention. "I'm living life as if i'm already dead" is a reference to how people tend only praise you after you die. This is all speculation, but the lyrics I gave are right anyway 😂
You should check out Don Broco since you’ve heard Rob now! They actually have a song called Action that features the clean vocalist of Dance Gavin Dance along with a few other vocalists.
@@maryhales4595they are on tour currently and I just saw them last night. They are absolutely amazing live and sound even better somehow. 11/10 1000% would do it again and again and again
I think someone already mentioned it but yeah “man of the year” from their tree city sessions 2 album is a live performance of that song. The video for it has been pretty popular on TH-cam too, I think you’d be surprised how great they sound live Other than that you guys are doing great!
Dgd has really good lyrics, the screamer does have funny lyrics a lot of the time 😂 it’s almost as if for comedic relief from the other intense lyrics or that’s how I look at it. Not all the time though, they have a song called Say Hi and a Jon Mess lyric that always stood out to me was “how do I say hi to another guy when I want to die?” You should check it out!
@@thecatsmeow11 my favorite is “ achoo Achoo, the pollen you so rude, the mucus I produce, it’s more than just a nuisance its abuse” which in my opinion is the perfect way to describe allergies.😂
The respect that all these reaction videos give the Bassist is amazing. Tim passed away recently & seeing all of the flowers given to him lately has been amazing. Your reactions give a smile to my face when it comes to DGD. Welcome to the community of misfits lol
Your comparisons crack me up lol. Watch the Tree City Sessions 2 for that beautiful live content. Also Jon's content sounds like nonsense but he kinda speaks in riddles. Theres meaning behind everything. They have an entire lore behind a handful of videos.
Came to say this. Everyone always talks about how Jon's lyrics are nonsense, but you nailed it. Might not be the easiest to decipher, but theres a meaning in there.
You all get excited about all the right parts lol, Really would love you to dig real deep into DGD before their new album comes out. Lots of quality and a loooong history
Tim...when they mentioned the bass. I started crying. I saw you every year, mw working merch tables, never bothered anyone ,always gave you as much as polite hello and goodbye. I get it. You get man handled alot. It was just nice saying hey. It meant a lot to me..
Love the enthusiasm! Glad you guys are enjoying the song almost as much as myself. Rob Damiani is from Don Broco, who are fantastic! One of my favorite bands, you guys absolutely have to check them out! Greatness, One True Prince, and Everybody are good places to start but honestly, they literally DO NOT MISS.
DGD songs you gotta react to next: Inspire the Liars Betrayed by the Game Head Hunter And finally the most requested track: Man of the Year (Tree city sessions live). I’ll be back if you review more!!!!!!!!
Welcome to the wonderful journey that is Dance Gavin Dance!! (I think Kyle's dancing was my favorite part of this whole amazing reaction.) Also, Tim Feerick always has super groovy bass lines. They're awesome.
Hey gang, I just started watching your channel through one of the Sleep Token reaction videos --- I would like to thank you guys much, I've been going through hell this past week and to just chill and listen to my favourite songs and seeing that y'all enjoy it as much as you do, has been so so great! Bless up and keep on keepin on !!
Really hope you guys do more of their old stuff soon! Not sure when the next song comes out but Man of the Year and Inspire the Liars will definitely be great to check out before it drops
The Spoken comp was spot on! I've been listening to DGD for years and never made that connection. I've seen them live countless times, and they only get better. Check out the live version of We Own The Night from a Warped Tour a few years ago. Jump down the rabbit hole of this band, y'all will not regret it!
The cleans have lyrical meaning, and depending on which songs you listen to, the screamer for the most part doesn't make much sense. But the song Man of the Year is consistent all the way through. Also you guys have so many gems to go through.
Possibly my most favorite lyric from John Mess in this song is at the beginning when he says "if your feeling me piss its probably best if i stop the stream"😂 And Swan is quite possibly my favorite guitarist ever he's so good.
Dont wanna bring the mood down from this amazing song and great freaking video, but RIP Tim Feerick. He IS the bass player for DGD. No one will ever be able to fill his shoes and provide what he did for the band. You will be missed Tim..
If you don't mind going a little bit into their past songs, highly recommend Inspire the Liars, Midnight Crusade, Born to fail. Shows the evolution across 3 albums
Yall should do more DGD. Id give you a list but thats be a lot haha. I would suggest prisoner thats what got me completely hooked. Id like to add since ive watched the whole video, aside from falling in reverse the only band where ithink I've listened to every song is dance gavin dance because you're right they almost have that same feel but different enough. Wait now way am i first?? Hell yeah!!!!
One thing about their music videos is there is a ton of lore and an actual story. Their album covers and music videos both show this animal vs robot narrative
I LOVE your reactions to them! My favorite band since I was 11! I have “uneasy hearts weigh the most” tattooed on my chest. You guys would LOVE mothership, & you’d love their recent stuff too! Their screamer is Jon Mess, & clean vocals are Tilian Pearson! But RIP, Tim Feerick. Their bassist passed away the other night 🥺
Oof you guys have to listen to “Evaporate”, that song has Tilian, Jon Mess, & Andrew Wells just going OFF. Opinion: Will Swan is the greatest guitarist of our generation. Tim Feerick, Will Swan, & Andrew Wells together?? They’re WILD. DGD has been around since 2005, you guys could do a lot with them, but as a very long time fan, I could give you guys some solid recommendations for vids like this!
I would love to see more DGD reactions. with the new album coming out soon you guys should definitely check out their previous albums. each album/Era has bangers of their own. and if you're liking this SOUND you guys should check anything from the most recent albums
i was kinda hoping you'd guys check out more of them before doing this one lol BUT you guys can still check out their previous singers.. the Jonny Craig eras -"And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman" -"Lemon Meringue Tie" -"Spooks" -"Blue Dream" Or the Kurt Travis era -"Me And Zoloft Get Along Just Fine" -"Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most" -"Tree Village" -"NASA"
If you like Robs vocal then checking out his band 'Don Broco' would be a good idea. They have a great groove with great hooks. Action and one true prince are awesome songs 🤙
Where is that goaty figure in the background from? I think its from some Scandinavian Christmas-themed Horror Movie but i can't remember the name. I dig that character design.
I guess it's time for you guys to hear them live. React to Dance Gavin Dance - Man Of The Year (Tree City Sessions 2 Live) and there is even more from that live.
ok PLEASE REACT TO DANCE GAVIN DANCE SON OF ROBOT!!! Classic hit by them and one of everyones all time favorites. would love to see you guys listen to it if you already havent
Their bassist just died. He was a fuckin amazing dude and bassist. If you wanna listen to a song that showcases it, Count Bassy, and Strawberry’s Wake are good ones. Good content
You should watch through the video and react, then watch through while reading the lyrics in the description! It's a great song lyrically so its a shame you missed it!
I'm a fan of Dance Gavin Dance's song Inspire the Liars. The video is a bit crazy and distracting to the music. It does have a story but I would check out their lyric video. I like the screamer lyrics in that song too.
Nuuuuu nu nu nu guys, Jon (dirty vocalist) makes very well thought out, clever af metaphors that you have to put together, it is a mind game that will sound like nonsense to most. Often ppl just don't understand until they are explained the meaning in the words, every song is that much more interesting when you really take the time to read the lyrics and piece it together 😉
10:40 RIP Tim, was legitimately my favorite bass player working today, can't wait to hear his final pieces of work on this upcoming album.
absolutely devastating. Still trying to process this
Yep RIP HUGE FAN of DGD and I wishing them all the best
Makes me cry every time..
Rest In Peace Tim
fuck, man, it's already been nine months. RIP to the realest one.

One of my favorite songs, and the live recording looks and sounds amazing.
Man of the Year is legit my favorite song
please dear God listen to this! tree city sessions 2 was my first live DGD experience and it was otherworldly
Really cool thing about Mess' gibberish lyrics: they're actually made to accompany the percussion of the song. He uses his vocal cadence to add an additional rhythm instrument to the song and I've never heard anyone else do anything like it in music.
I've done merch next to them many a tours. I've been around since chris was clean singing. They're so Talented, and weird nice dudea.
Can confirm they do sound like this live. I was skeptical my first time then Jon came out fucking screaming and tilian hit a crazy high note in we own the night and after that I knew I'd made a wonderful decision.

Runnin on fumes, checkin my views, scrolling for a comment that proves....i don't need more motivation
You should check out Don Broco since you’ve heard Rob now! They actually have a song called Action that features the clean vocalist of Dance Gavin Dance along with a few other vocalists.
ACTION! is such a banger
“Who told that bassist he could go that hard” RIP Tim
Fucking legend
Tillian sounds even better live. I've never felt anything as deep in my spine as him hitting the high notes live in Inspire the Liars.
Oh that sounds like a dream. I would love to hear that song live.

totally agree, they should react to it, super good live
I second this, check out man of the year live

Another jon mess favorite is “I couldn’t wait to tap into the brain of my cat and let him know he’s my little baby meow meow boo”
Mess’s lyrics also connect some of the lore. Yes. To my knowledge DGD songs have lore. It’s incredible.
@@thecatsmeow11 my favorite is “ achoo Achoo, the pollen you so rude, the mucus I produce, it’s more than just a nuisance its abuse” which in my opinion is the perfect way to describe allergies.😂

A thousand times yes!! I've been on an obsessive phase with inspire the liars, it goes so hard
Those guitar sounds on the break downs are so dope. They sound keyboard like
Welcome to the wonderful journey that is Dance Gavin Dance!! (I think Kyle's dancing was my favorite part of this whole amazing reaction.)
Also, Tim Feerick always has super groovy bass lines. They're awesome.
“FITTED WITH A GIMMICK MAKE A CYNICAL WOW MANY MEN WENT IN IT BUT THEY COULDN’T GET OUT” ALWAYS makes me wanna bust down a move 🔥🔥

Rob Damiani is the lead singer of Don Broco. Ya'll should check them out as well.

Oh, he had a right to. Miss you Tim 💚
I know exactly one Spoken song and love it

"Man of the Year" Tree Sessions 2 live
10/10 REACTION!
If you read up on the drama of the band, Born to Fail is a banger
Best lyrics jon ever wrote: bleh bleh bleh bleh bleeh bleeeehhhh
Im sure someone else has already said it, but please please please, Man of the Year - Tree City Sessions 2
Royal Coda next??
Would suggest trying out "say hi" if you want the screamer to be the lyricist of the song instead of the lead
Please do sacrifice by the devil wears prada! Not metal head but wow, on repeat for WEEKS!!!
Must do man of the year tree city sessions
Their bassist just died. He was a fuckin amazing dude and bassist. If you wanna listen to a song that showcases it, Count Bassy, and Strawberry’s Wake are good ones. Good content
You should watch through the video and react, then watch through while reading the lyrics in the description! It's a great song lyrically so its a shame you missed it!
If you want another rap feel scream try their old song called strawberry swisher pt3
I'm a fan of Dance Gavin Dance's song Inspire the Liars. The video is a bit crazy and distracting to the music. It does have a story but I would check out their lyric video. I like the screamer lyrics in that song too.

they're new song "pop off!" just came out, you should react to it!! And the new album comes out July 29th!!
Liked the reaction. Kyle, wondered if you listen to Disturbed?
I hope mess does more rapping technique on this album. Vs just screaming
You should react to Rob’s band Don Broco. I recommend the track One True Prince
Next song "Feels Bad Man" is allegedly coming within 2 weeks if we going off reddit leaks
Man of The Year Tree City Sessions 2
