      I think the sad reality is that if he wasn’t related to Napoleon Bonaparte or let alone have the Napoleon.
      He wouldn’t been entirely forgotten in history.
      We only remember him to a extent simply because of his family name

    • @taupe3864
      @taupe3864 ปีที่แล้ว +75

      @@supermario5849 Napoléon III is known for the massive industrialisation of France, the integration of Savoy, the liberalisation of France, the massive extensions of the railways, the Ollivier law etc etc.
      Also he was a relatively "strong" statesman and kept the power for 20 years.
      Reducing Napoléon III to his name is a misunderstanding of his accomplishments and importance for the French History.
      Also because he made a rupture between the 2nd and the 3rd Republic by making an Empire, so.
      Even if he were named "Jean Dupont the 1st"
      History should have remembered him (maybe even more because if a no-name or someone with no ascendancy took power in France and made a French Empire and made the same achievements as Napoléon III, it should have been incredible)

      History repeats itself twice. The first time, as a tragedy and the second time as a farce. Napoleon lll was the second one.
      His loss was a result of all he had done. He's repeated Napoleon l just like a parody. Don't you think so?

    • @franceimperiale1959
      @franceimperiale1959 ปีที่แล้ว +53

       @Сергей Шишлин
      Firstly, the first French empire was never a failure, because it prevented France from being invaded by the English who wanted to re-establish a monarchy vassalized by the United Kingdom. Then, it allowed France to assert itself as a great power and it stabilized it after a very violent French revolution, which without Napoleon would have ended in a regime similar to the Directory, that means a pre-communist dictatorship. The only "tragedy" in this period is that Napoleon lost (I think he should not have gone to Spain, where he lost a lot of men and equipment, and therefore was not prepared for the Russian campaign), and although he "lost", he is still the best known emperor and retains for posterity the title of the one who made France shine.
      Then for the case of Napoleon III. It is true that he never reached the glory of his uncle, Napoleon I, but it is impossible to equal him, so we cannot blame him for that. However, it is unthinkable to say that he was a bad emperor, since he thoroughly modernized France, gave it an economic advantage, and above all, gave hope to all those who were nostalgic for the Napoleonic era of prosperity, whereas at that time, there were no revolutions, which constantly changed the regime in France (monarchy, republic, anarchy,...) With Napoleon III, that calmed down for a while this instability. He unified Italy, which without him would still be divided into states, most of which were vassals of Austria. He also limited the appetite of the Russian empire with the Crimean war, where he restored France to a dignified place in the world, which it had lost somewhat after the defeat of Napoleon I.
      Napoleon III lost against prussia, and i agree that he made some mistakes. however, he knew that it would be complicated for france to win, but if he had done nothing, prussia would have claimed the spanish throne and without the french intervention, prussia would have been able to invade some of austria's territories, and become too powerful.
      Today, there are far too many problems in France, which is why many people like me are nostalgic for those glory days. It's a bit like the French at the time of Napoleon III, who found in him what they had been waiting for since the end of the first empire: an Emperor.
      As a conclusion, Long live French Empire!
      Vive l'Empereur, Vive l'Empire, Vive la France !!!

    • @shishlinsv
      @shishlinsv ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @France Impériale you say, "Only tragedy was he lost in Spain...". But Napoleon was ambitious, and he's burned the future of France in his adventures. He raised the stakes from time to time, and yes, in the end, he lost. Lost the grate future of France. It's on the one hand. On the other hand, his "blocade" of Britannia has the result as successful industrialization of the UK. I really don't understand why you see his good reforms (not all of them were good, btw), but ignoring the results of his reigning. That is more important in my view.🤔

    I am French and here Napoleon III is not very well known, although he was the first president of our Republic.
    People think he is responsible for the unification of Germany and the defeat at Sedan. Although they are partly right, he achieved many great things (industrialisation, the right to strike...). Anyway, this video is excellent.

      @@myri_the_weirdo, yeah, about the First Republic, it was governed by corporate bodies like the Comittee on Public Salvation (led by Robespierre) or the Consulate (led by Napoleon I). That is why there was a republic without presidents, just like the primitive Roman Republic, where Senate had ultimate authority and 2 consuls acted as the Executive branch.
      Even before those 2 minutes, Napoleon III can be considered the only President of the 2nd Republic as he had to win an election under a republican system before him abolishing it.

    • @octaviocuesta1155
      @octaviocuesta1155 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Eden.At55 No, Myri is right. The First Republic was from 1792 to 1804. After that it was an empire and two monarchies before finally becoming the Second Republic - which Napoleon III sold out in 1851 to stay in power

    • @Eden.At55
      @Eden.At55 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@octaviocuesta1155 Myri was not right, the first president was Louis Napoléon Bonaparte (dixit, Napoleon the third). He did his time as president and wanted to stay in power sadly the constitution of the time didn't let people reelect an ancient president. So, he did a "plébiscite" (asked to the population) if they wanted to pass the republic for a second Empire. The other politicien didnt agree, the people did. So he made a coup. ((((Very simplified))))
