I’ve always held the opinion that BWII and BWNeo’s placement in the timeline depends on the continuity. In the American BW continuity, Lio Convoy (Leonidas Primal) and Big Convoy (Slammoth Magnus) are contemporaries of the Axalon’s crew who were busy on other worlds (Galvatron and Magmatron were Predacon military commanders who were unaware of BW Megs’s plans; the latter survived the Vehicon apocalypse and came to lead a team of new “Dinobots”). In the clusterfrag that is Japanese G1, they’re descendants who live on a remechanized post-Beast Machines Cybertron (it’s a whole thing). Regarding Neo itself… this was admittedly a very bold misfire. What I mean by that is that Takara was clearly having a ball designing the cleanest of beast modes for the new molds… which has the unfortunate consequence of the robot modes being clunky kibbly messes and the toys being nightmares to transform for the target audience. It would be like handing MP-44 to a kid in the 80s and expecting them to want another Transformers toy. And that’s a shame, because (to me) Neo feels like it has the greatest impact of any Japanese-exclusive Transformers show on the rest of the franchise. Magmatron is perhaps the most popular character (he jumped into Beast Machines’s toyline, got a starring role in IDW’s BW miniseries, and is now the Commander of United), Longrack got a reference in Cybertron, the Predacon dinos had impressive longevity (I still remember the Guiledart/Killer Punch recolor as AOE Slug), and I doubt Dark Energon would exist without Angolmois being in this show. As much as I love Lio Convoy, BW Galvatron, and their crews, I can’t say they had the same impact on the franchise as those who crewed the Yukikaze and Gung Ho.
T-Rex leads the BM Dinobots. But I'm pretty sure Magmatron joined them and was a highly respected member among their ranks. Even if the events of BW Neo and such didn't happen or not he eventually came around(unlike BW 2 Galvatron)
One of the cool facts about this series was that Unicron was originally intended to eventually show up in his non-galvatron , planet alt mode "true form" AND was to get a toy of said "true form," to the point that they even developed a prototype of Unicron's intended toy YEARS before we finally got the first official Unicron toy in Armada. You can still find pictures of the Beast Wars Neo Unicron prototype on the internet and it was super cool. Go look it up if you want to see something amazing that could have been.
I always thought Big Convoy had a western theme too. The tusks on the shoulders make me think of decorations you see on an oil tycoon’s car or even a longhorn.
Rockbuster was colored like the rare VHS variant of Razorclaw. I wish they also used the Airazor variant scheme too. Also the quasi-Transmetal repaints of the basic Spittor, and Clawjaw molds would have been awesome too…
It's nice to see Beast Wars Neo getting some more love. I remember when I first watched the series, I was bedriddenly sick and this series was like a nice bowl of chicken noodle soup to help me get better.
Of the six “main” Maximals for Neo, I would love to see pretty much everyone but Break and Stampy again. (Stampy was never interesting to me, character or design wise, and I’ve seen enough shellformers to know that Break would need to be fully reworked from the ground up to work today.) Longrack’s gotten references here and there, but nothing concrete. Heinrad has always been a cult favorite, so getting a new figure would fly off the shelves. I love Cohrada, I need my cowboy cobra boy again. And Big Convoy… well, at this point, we’ve had enough Platinum repaints and Encore rereleases, I think just a regular Walmart retro release wouldn’t surprise us; please just give us a new Big Convoy mold, guys. But then I look at the Preds. The entire crew of the Dinosaur is full of bangers that deserve new light shone on them. Magmatron is already getting a new figure. We just reused Guiledart for Age of Extinction recently, why shouldn’t we make an updated version of the mold? Saberback has always been a favorite of mine. Sling is a horrid victim of Potus Manus (Butt Hand) and I refuse to let him suffer any longer! Dead End is terrific idea, why have we never revisited the “Man Trapped in a Gachapon Capsule” alt mode? Archadis has always interested me, though I could never get my hands on one. Bazooka and Mach Kick, we don’t need to revisit. All the other slight retool/repaint characters, we can leave in the past. The less we remember Randy, _the better._
Just like BWII changed the faction theming to have all the fully organic animals be Maximals (though the bugs were set apart as a subgroup), Neo changed it again to be (mostly) "extant vs extinct". The exceptions, of course, being Big Convoy himself (the only prehistoric mammal in any BW line) and Crazybolt (a frilled lizard Predacon).
TJ is the only TF reviewer I know who calls BW II “Beast Wars Two.” Pretty much everybody else calls it “Beast Wars Second,” which I believe is the more typical Japanese pronunciation of a Roman numeral on the end of a title, like with a son named after his father, rather than like a numbered sequel.
When Diamond Bolt mentioned Thrust & Galvatron's deaths I remember him saying "Beast Wars 2" instead of "Beast Wars Second" (He also pronounced Lio Convoy's name wrong. But I digress)
The first time I ever heard of anything after the original "Beast Wars" was when "Transformers Universe" released the Nemesis Primal based on Beast Wars Neo. I still have the figure, it is a lot of fun to transform, but it is VERY reliant on its shell
I've yet to watch the anime, but I've always been fascinated by the beast modes in "BW Neo," especially for the Predacons/Destrons and Big Convoy all being prehistoric creatures. Heck, I'd love to have a Big Convoy toy, if only to have a mammoth transformer.
That triceratops has had like 7 repaints, and they're all wonderful. Sabreback and his repaints are pretty great too. My absolute favorite though is Break. We badly need another Penguin Transformer someday.
This is easily my favorite TF toy line. At one point, many years ago before marriage and kids, I had the whole set. Including the Blendtrons. Mach Kick and Killer Punch were my favorite figures. Loved Magmatron and Big Convoy, too!
I have owned Longrack, Dead-End from the proper line, and Big Convoy and all the Dino Destron troopers like Saberback, Bazooka, Guiledart, and Archadis from BM, Universe, and RiD.
I really do like the majority of the toys, especially Big Convoy, Longrack, Cohrada, Stampy, and Archadis. But it’s also very much a shellformer era. And it’s also of a design era I call “only meant to be a toy.” Somebody like the triceratops Destron there, with his had hand and weird shoulder pad, is not somebody who could enjoy a normal life. He looks like he’d barely fit through most doors and only has one real hand. I really hope with Magmatron for a commander, and Lio Convoy last year, we can get Big and BW II Galvatron.
I expected a lot of weird things from Neo. Everything I've seen of it was wacky looking. But i was still not ready for "the japanese beast wars leaders directly scale to unicron" within the first 5 minutes
I'll be honest, I don't quite see how Unicron being in this show means it takes place at the same time as American Beast Wars. All that really tells us is that it's in the same universe, which was never really in question. Also, I think Angolmois is supposed to be pronounced in a French style, like "Angle-mwah".
Did they actually use the "dead mode" in the show? And if so HOW! What would be the practical use of those? I do understand why it was included because Jurassic Park toys were around at the same time that had a similar gimmick but it also made more sense when they were meant to be real dinosaurs and not robots.
It would be awesome to try to see how Beast Wars Neo and whatever the other Japanese Beast Wars was tie into the American Beast Wars and later Beast Machines
The only Neo figure is have is Longrack. Though i do have the reissue Big Convoy and Beast Machines Magmatron. Only watched episode 1 of the Anime so far, but i do like what Takara did with the toyline.
Me: (Seeing Mach Kick's weapon mode) "This is the abomination! Exterminate!" Also, FYI, the Mois part of Angol Mois is pronounced the same as the French word for "me".
If you ignore IDW's earlier beast wars comics,my head canon is that II and neo take place in the present day of when the original BW caste came from but now the maximals and predacons are at war for some reason, maybe the tri-predicus council finally launched their plan to overthrow the maximals?
5:12/5:18/5:26 In my headcanon, I go by the original catalogue of it taking place around the 2300s (300 years into the future), and that Gaea is 24th century Earth after humanity left the planet in the distant past (as seen in the Selects manga) This also connects it to IDW's Ascending comic which takes place afterwards.
I would love to see a DVD release of beast wars 2 and neo like they did with the original three Japanese exclusive transformers cartoons (headmasters master force and victory). C'mon Shout get on it! Lolol
Blame the Jointron brothers (the Tripredacus Council repaints who were extremely stereotypical Mexican stereotypes) for why it never got brought over here. A shame, really. I think the concept of the Jointrons is absolutely hysterical (they’re really not that bad compared to the Twins).
Angle-mwah. Its French was was Nostrodamus trying to say Mongolians without saying Mongolians. What a weird choice of name for Dark Energon before that was a thing
honestly....DeadEnd.... reminded me too much of Thunderblast from Cybertron. good grief. all shell no former. yeah break was honestly one of the more infamous ones but at least he was more interesting and ambitious than an ammonite
Do a good number of the characters need proper English names or not (especially that one image where it shows various Maximals in their beast modes who are waiting for their new assignments, comprising many different animal species (not just mammals). I know one of them is Star Upper, the kickboxing kangaroo)?
He said Scarr, not Star. Scarr is a Dinobot from the IDW run of comics, who had recently gotten a toy in Legacy Evolution that turned into an Ankylosaurus.
It would be awesome to try to see how Beast Wars Neo and whatever the other Japanese Beast Wars was tie into the American Beast Wars and later Beast Machines

If I were to dub name Big convoy, I would call him Mammoth Primal, Mammoth Magnus or Slammoth Prime.
13:45 to be fair Giraffes have been know to slap the tar out of lions when the going gets tough.

Here's hoping for a Legacy Big Convoy in the future. Or whatever they might call him in English.
Maximus Prime would be a good English name for the mammoth bot!
He was called Slammoth in Beast wars Uprising, so maybe he'll be called Slammoth prime!
I wonder if we’ll get other Neo Characters like Hydra and Hardhead soon too
They did note an English name for him being Mammoth Prime… but eh I’m also not the biggest fan of that name either
Slammoth Magnus. Also, “Leonidas Primal” >>> “Leo Prime”
I always thought Big Convoy had a western theme too. The tusks on the shoulders make me think of decorations you see on an oil tycoon’s car or even a longhorn.

Hasbro needs to make a new horse transformer toy, just so they can later remold it in to a mlp Collaborative figure, it would so funny

The exceptions, of course, being Big Convoy himself (the only prehistoric mammal in any BW line) and Crazybolt (a frilled lizard Predacon).
5:02 This was also inspired by the Nostradamus prophecy (Botcon 99 would do something similar for their storyline).

We can thank Sonokong for making loads more Neo toys for more collectors to get, and for the only other dub in Korean on rare VHS.

I suppose it could be useful for observation/ambush in a way that vehicular transformers can do but beast ones can't.
It would be awesome to try to see how Beast Wars Neo and whatever the other Japanese Beast Wars was tie into the American Beast Wars and later Beast Machines
I have the encore one myself and it looks so good standing next to Legacy Lio. They’re great scale.
The only Neo figure is have is Longrack. Though i do have the reissue Big Convoy and Beast Machines Magmatron. Only watched episode 1 of the Anime so far, but i do like what Takara did with the toyline.
I kinda wish I owned Rockbuster. I liked that colorscheme
Break and Dead-End are friggin' HILARIOUS I love them!
Intentional or not, I as a Beast Wars Uprising fan appreciated that you hyphened Dead-End’s name.
11:54 Have people took issue with his head sculpt?
I do know he showed up in the 2021 Beast Wars comic.
Hey anyone who’s seen One Piece can tell you about the infinite destructive power of a giraffe
Me: (Seeing Mach Kick's weapon mode) "This is the abomination! Exterminate!"

Honestly I love some of the sillier designs, I would very much like a Heinrad.

I am so friggen hype for Legacy Magmatron
I still have my BW Neo Deadend and Big Convoy.
10:55/11:19 I know in IDW he fought against Javelin.
I still don’t understand why Hasbro never licensed any of the Japanese Beast Wars Sequel series for subtitled sets here state side
Blame the Jointron brothers (the Tripredacus Council repaints who were extremely stereotypical Mexican stereotypes) for why it never got brought over here. A shame, really. I think the concept of the Jointrons is absolutely hysterical (they’re really not that bad compared to the Twins).
the Vok in Beast Wars was a threat to both the Maximals and Predacons
It's Beast Wars Second, not Beast Wars Two :p
Big convoy for legacy or Haslab I think it will happen with magmatron coming next year
Angle-mwah. Its French was was Nostrodamus trying to say Mongolians without saying Mongolians. What a weird choice of name for Dark Energon before that was a thing
Very enjoyable video
more tie in with g1 and beast wars too with the beast wars 2 movie
If I were to dub name Big convoy, I would call him Mammoth Primal, Mammoth Magnus or Slammoth Prime.
I believe the Energy they Collected is pronounced An~gul~wa
angle and then muah as in chef's kiss, so angle-muah
@@pama1040
That actually sounds better to say
I’m no expert but I believe it’s pronounced like this:
Angle-wah
Chimera isnt said with typical Ch sound, it’s more like a K. Think like how you’d read the word Kai. So basically phonetically it would be Kaimera
LOVE IS HERE
What's love got to do with it?
@@jtelm157Look up the Beast Wars Neo opening.

10.40, you say "star became a thing", what is this? Is it a line of transformers I don't know about?
He said Scarr, not Star. Scarr is a Dinobot from the IDW run of comics, who had recently gotten a toy in Legacy Evolution that turned into an Ankylosaurus.
