Olden Demon is my new favourite painting competition. The top 5 entries really were on an entirely different level.
Very well deserved winner and honourable mentions. Well done everyone.
Those are some crazy good paint jobs, respect to them. And for running the contest - my Space Hulk 1st edition Blood Angel may be way back in the cheap seats (not complaining), but I'm proud to have him painted, and happy to have taken part.
Dear lord those minis were amazing. Please do another video showcasing more entries. This is exactly the kind of 'for the joy of it' painting competition that puts a massive smile on my face!
The winner is nuts. Like when you first look at it I get the impression 'yeah it's nice, but is it a winner?'
But the more you acrually analyse it, the level of detail and technique is insane.
Thanks for running this competition, it was a pleasure to enter and see so many awesome entries on Instagram, your presentation of them here was both funny and inspiring. Keep up the awesomeness.

Theres a few of us trying to show Oldhammer to the masses!
It is MINDBLOWING, but also in a way not surprising, that many of these old sculpts look amazing with modern paint jobs using modern techniques and materials, honed 30 or more years out.
I know a lot of old minis get some good natured ribbing, but seriously many are amazing sculptures that hold today even against the era of zbrush and ultra detailed plastics.

Hendarion's entry is insane, I'm amazed he didn't at least crack the top 3 let alone pushed out of the finalists. Those blends are so gosh darn smooth

What is the name of the piece of John Blanche (?) art with a ship moving towards a planet? And was it originally in color like that? It’s gorgeous, might be my favorite 40k piece of art.
It's a scan from the John Blanche artbook circa 1993. The book was given out to people who collected Skullz points I believe.

So... what would I have to do to get ahold of the icons you use to represent miniatures in your videos? I absolutely adore them.
Actually, better question - how do you make them? Is it a simple process you could do on, say, GIMP?
I’m planning to add the sets in Dawn Raid to the KoFi page next week. If you fancy trying to make them yourself I use Procreate on the iPad which handles geometric shapes really well

Oh my. That NMM on the winner mini is sp awesome. This is the first time I see something really looks like METAL. Because let us be honest, NMM is just a style we all agreed kinda looks like metal, but it's not.

Yep, that first place dancer is amazing... missed a lot of those reflecting colours till I really looked at it.
Thanks for organizing! As a suggestion I'd credit the entries commented in the first part of the video. This is a commercial platform, in the end. It's killing 2 birds with one shot, firstly way nicer to recognize the authors and also avoid any legal trouble.
Good idea. It also just plainly gives the painters a bigger stage, which benefits the hobby in the end ☺️

Ive always had a soft spot for wardancers. That miniature by the winner is orobably the best ive ever seen. Its not just for the skill, but as Olden says, its all the littke details tgat you dont see at first 😊

The standard here is just insane - can't imagine painting this squig hopper at 3:05 or blood angel at 2:57 and not being a finalist/winner.

Gotta' say, I find the scripts in these videos absolutely delightful.
Those are also some amazing paint jobs. Really shows how much miniature painting has developed the last 30 years, going from goofy-kind-of-niche into a refined artform.

Some people use masonry to coerce judges, others use a secret rune painted in goblin green on their inside left wrist.
The goblin with banner is my favourite.
