Despite what they do in the films, Marvel has a rich history that includes the Falcon as Caps partner for decades. When Bucky returned he did become Captain America for a bit but has actually done better as the Winter Soldier. Same with Falcon, as he recently became the new Captain America and was for quite some time recently. Turning the mantle to Sam in the MCU just follows the current trend.

I seriously doubt anything could keep Cap from rescuing his best friend in his new timeline. Heck, if Peggy weren't such a perfect woman, and Steve already knew she would marry someone else in his absence, Cap may have gone to save Bucky before taking that long awaited dance. Even so, I believe Bucky did grow old with him, and took on the mantle of Captain America when Steve and Peggy were ready to calm down a bit.

Exactly. You can definitely see the killer instincts in his eyes during his Hydra days. Props to him because he wore a mask, and his eyes were the only thing visible for the expression. My fav scene is probably one during the war days when desperate Bucky yelled that he wouldn't leave the Hydra base without Steve. When he got his new arm in Infinity War, you can also see him being reluctant to go for war again because of all he's been through. But the world needs them, him included.
I think it's OK and it's a realistic choice. But Steve leaving a "semi-stable" buddy to be the only man out of time in this world, that's just not my steve. I hate Marvel for that.
I think Steve told Bucky he wasn't planning on coming back, you could interpret this from the long goodbye hug they shared right before Steve went back in time to return the stones. The hug wouldn't have been necessary because for them it would have taken only 10 seconds and for Steve a few hours to return to them. But I think Steve told Bucky what he intended to do and maybe asked him to join him to return to their timeline and maybe Bucky refused.

After all, even the directors and the screenwriters couldn't agree on what happened and what's to happen. I liked the ending of Endgame, but I thought it was weird Captain America didn't take Bucky with him. And it was equally weird that Bucky didn't insist more on going back with Steve, since I think Bucky understood what Steve planned to do.
I want Cap to be happy and I don't have a problem with him retiring. I just think it's so unexpected, based on the Captain America trilogy and Avengers 1-3, that he would choose to leave everything behind to be with the girl he barely even dated . He could have retired in the modern world. He's got more friends there, he's spent most of his adult life there. But Marvel didn't want to leave any hope for a come back, so they picked up the Peggy story line, flimsily made her "love of his life", and conveniently sent him back in time once and for all. To be fair, in the comics, Bucky was a side kick and much younger than the cap... he was the Robin to Cap's Batman. But in the MCU, he was more equals to Steve. They were friends, allies and fellow old men of the past. On the other hand, Falcon was younger, learned from the Cap and was ready to be a heir... cause that was what Steve needed... not something for his friend to take, but someone to carry on his legacy. Plus, Captain America is a symbol of what America is supposed to represent. It's not like how Spiderman was Peter Parker or Tony was Ironman.. Captain America was an ideal, not just a man...

Despite what they do in the films, Marvel has a rich history that includes the Falcon as Caps partner for decades. When Bucky returned he did become Captain America for a bit but has actually done better as the Winter Soldier. Same with Falcon, as he recently became the new Captain America and was for quite some time recently. Turning the mantle to Sam in the MCU just follows the current trend.

I seriously doubt anything could keep Cap from rescuing his best friend in his new timeline. Heck, if Peggy weren't such a perfect woman, and Steve already knew she would marry someone else in his absence, Cap may have gone to save Bucky before taking that long awaited dance. Even so, I believe Bucky did grow old with him, and took on the mantle of Captain America when Steve and Peggy were ready to calm down a bit.

Exactly. You can definitely see the killer instincts in his eyes during his Hydra days. Props to him because he wore a mask, and his eyes were the only thing visible for the expression. My fav scene is probably one during the war days when desperate Bucky yelled that he wouldn't leave the Hydra base without Steve. When he got his new arm in Infinity War, you can also see him being reluctant to go for war again because of all he's been through. But the world needs them, him included.

I think Steve told Bucky he wasn't planning on coming back, you could interpret this from the long goodbye hug they shared right before Steve went back in time to return the stones. The hug wouldn't have been necessary because for them it would have taken only 10 seconds and for Steve a few hours to return to them. But I think Steve told Bucky what he intended to do and maybe asked him to join him to return to their timeline and maybe Bucky refused.

After all, even the directors and the screenwriters couldn't agree on what happened and what's to happen. I think Marvel just wanted a mainstream exit for Cap, at the price of logic and Cap's story arc.
I liked the ending of Endgame, but I thought it was weird Captain America didn't take Bucky with him. And it was equally weird that Bucky didn't insist more on going back with Steve, since I think Bucky understood what Steve planned to do.
I want Cap to be happy and I don't have a problem with him retiring. I just think it's so unexpected, based on the Captain America trilogy and Avengers 1-3, that he would choose to leave everything behind to be with the girl he barely even dated . He could have retired in the modern world. He's got more friends there, he's spent most of his adult life there. But Marvel didn't want to leave any hope for a come back, so they picked up the Peggy story line, flimsily made her "love of his life", and conveniently sent him back in time once and for all. I feel it's just disrespect of the character. As far as the ending is concerned, they just want to be done with him.

To be fair, in the comics, Bucky was a side kick and much younger than the cap... he was the Robin to Cap's Batman.
But in the MCU, he was more equals to Steve. They were friends, allies and fellow old men of the past. On the other hand, Falcon was younger, learned from the Cap and was ready to be a heir... cause that was what Steve needed... not something for his friend to take, but someone to carry on his legacy. Plus, Captain America is a symbol of what America is supposed to represent.

In the Brubaker comics, which serve as the basis to the modern Cap portrayal, Steve wants Bucky to be Cap in part to heal him. To give him the chance to be the good man Steve knows Bucky to be. Bucky might not trust his own mind, but Steve ALWAYS did. I mean, that's the whole point to not killing Bucky in Winter Soldier.
Aside from that, Bucky in the films is already a super soldier. I heard the Russo's make the confusing statement that the shield is a weapon and that Bucky shouldn't be given weapons. Uh...you mean aside from the last several movies? And his bionic arm IS a weapon. HE is a weapon.
