  • How To Create Great Paintings through Strong Brushstrokes
In this video Stefan Baumann is talking to his students about how to use your brush to make better paintings. this information is important if you want to get your paintings to the next level
Inspiring Millions to paint outdoors This video is about Touch Move and Inspire. Get a free Book at his website www.StefanBaumann.com. The paintings of Stefan Baumann reveal the true spirit of nature by transporting the viewer to distant lands that have gone unseen and undisturbed. With the huge success of Baumann’s weekly PBS television series “The Grand View: America’s National Parks through the Eyes of an Artist,” millions of people witness for themselves the magic Stefan portrays on canvas, his passion for nature and the American landscape. By distilling his love of nature into a luminous painting of brilliant, saturated color that transcends conventional landscape and wildlife art, Baumann has captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation. Each painting becomes an experience rather than merely a picture - a vivid manifestation of his special and personal union with nature and the outdoor world. Through his mastery of light, color and artful composition, Baumann invites you to experience nature in its purity. It is no wonder that for many years distinguished American collectors, including former presidents and financial icons, have sought out his work.

I just found you recently. I’m a 72 yr “mature” woman (as you have put it) …and I already “know” how to paint beautiful paintings…IN MY HEAD! Lol!
I can draw a fairly bit….but have always wanted to learn to paint.
I can understand why people are so taken by your videos. I could never afford coaching…but am quickly becoming “addicted” to watching and listening to you.
It isn’t just the way you explain things, it’s also the soothing sound of your voice. I believe you just may be as good of a therapist as you are a painting instructor.
Have you ever considered making one of those sleep aid audios? Just kidding….(I don’t fall asleep while watching you…I’m too interested in what you are saying) but I can sure imagine how the soothing sound of your voice could be used to help someone fall asleep (or calm down…and not worry or whatever)…if you were suggesting they do so!
If your videos were shown in homeless shelters, jails, retirement homes…etc. you would have even more of a larger scale impact on people’s well being and encourage positive attitudes on just about anything having to do with art or anything else.
You have a very rare skill…not only in your talent, but in communication of the way to achieve goals.
Painting..and artwork in general is good for the soul…good for mental health. Your particular knowledge and expertise in communicating is a very positive contribution to many peoples happiness and wellbeing..I’m sure!
It has been a HUGE source of inspiration and comfort to my sometimes difficult little world.
    May God Bless you greatly!

Your teaching of composition is SO important -- so many artists teach technique but don't share composition techniques which are part of what is the back bone, the skeleton on which the painting is built. Rock on, Stefan!

Hi Stefan. I'm 70 and just found your videos. Analysis: your connection with humanity is atmospheric, emanating from your humble and artistic soul. Your confidence tempered with humility and compassion keeps the snappy art critic part (as revealed by momentary flashes of eyes) educated in the courteous manners of communication. Your love is the atmosphere I think. I like you. I like the way you respond to the people, create a 'neighborhood" of gentility. And very much" Thank You for posting the videos. Your well modulated voice is the song upon which the listeners float.

Stefan I just want to thank you for all you have done for me! I'm a self taught artist, painting for three years and you have taught me so much. I now concentrate on the central focus point and paint effects. I applied what I learned from you with a very simple pastel painting of a tree in a green pasture that was entered in my second juried art show and was so excited to receive an honorable mention ribbon. Your passion to elevate art in our time is so incredible and you give so much great free instruction. I just had to write, I am one of your students who enjoys listening to your talks and repeating them. Thanks again! P.S. : I feel like I know you! LOL smiles from Ohio!

You truly are a very excellent instructor. I like the way you teach art by using words. I have watched many art classes on tape, in person, etc., hoping to learn but somehow those visuals do not meet with what I need to know as an artist. When you speak it is almost like hearing the true poetry of painting. Thank you, Stefan.

So much good here, though I often mostly listen as I'm painting or doing other work. I listen to them as often as I can because each time I listen, I pick something else up that is always of tremendous value. Love the discussion on brushstrokes, composition, and key points overall are just always so very helpful! Thank you and God bless!

Speaking of husbands, my husband has been watching these videos with me and thus he is able to critic my work and help me. I'm not able to come to any of your workshops because of distance and health issues that also prevent me from doing much outdoor painting. I have some of your tapes that I have watched over and over. My biggest problem is I don't think I'm good enough to paint something of real value. I'm primarily a porcelain painter and have done pretty well with that, but oil painting is harder for me. I am doing the doodling and also drawing everyday. It is getting better. I need lots of practice, but my improvement is encouraging. Thanks for your help with oil painting and art in general.

I would love to do this as soon as the mess is cleaned up on our home. Long story. Short version: had a bad roof leak from bad winter snow, construction company took over 18 weeks to finish, sort of. We are still in a big mess. I can't paint yet, but I'm doodling and drawing every day. How much does it cost for such coaching? As we are on a very limited budget. I may have to save for a while to pay for it. I'm learning more from you than any of the videos and courses I've purchased so far and it hasn't cost me anything except the 2 videos I bought from you.

I find that I can say one thing one week and then say the same thing the next week and students will say they have never heard the before. I think to learn you have to say things over and over to hit different students when they are eady to learn that thing. and even students that know it need to be reminded about it.

@@StefanBaumann I taught virtualization (IT). you are right. It must be heard around 5 times to be learned. But I "discovered" you today, and I am so grateful! Your bit about music resonated with me as well, because I play a lot of instruments, have taught those as well, and part of the learning early on is improvisation (your own brush strokes on the music). I sure hope you have a lot of these out there! I am so greedy!

I saw a late Lucian Freud recently. The brush-strokes are actually thicker than you would imagine - about 2cm thick. It is layered on as thick as clay. When your paint is that thick it is very difficult to do anything with it, but the amazing thing about Freud is the control of the brush-strokes . You could see all of the thin lines on the eyes and face had been bent into shape. It was like a real force of willpower.

I have learned so much watching your videos on youtube. It has totally changed my perspective of painting. When you say to never paint anything larger than real life, do you mean for less experienced artists, or is this a rule of thumb for painting? Is this a concern when selling paintings? I always thought that people tended to like larger paintings so that they could cover their walls.

Where can I buy a light that you use?

Does anyone have a recommendation for what phone/camera to buy to use as he describes.. for helping with painting scenes outdoors and crop, etc.. and maybe one that will turn it into black and white for a value study? I have never bought a smart phone or any other high tech. I just have a regular camera and a flip phone. I have no idea what to get but I want a fairly inexpensive one with just the basics I need to help with painting. ANYONE? Thanks! Michelle

It is called unconscious competence when you no longer need to think in order to create. They are great at what they do, but are not great teachers.

Great lesson as always! 👍😉I approach graphic art as painting. I finished a clients idea but instead of a photo type art like you mentioned here, I reinterprete the image as a painting. In fact, more as cave art. Check out @TheRealMaddog58's Tweet: twitter.com/TheRealMaddog58/status/853015869257121792?s=01

I always hear a German sounding lady speak up, show her work sometime. I feel like I know her by now

You talk a lot, but I wish you would have given some demos of what you're passionate about. Makes me wonder WHY you just talk and not show work.

Because other artists don't talk, if you want to watch, then watch them! BTW did you pay for this information? BTW I have 20 videos where I do paint, Look them up.
