Speaking of ticks, in Kansas we occasionally run into “seed ticks,” basically hatchlings that are so small they’re hard to even see. If you walk into a nest of them they’ll look like dirt on your pants, but a closer look shows them to be tiny ticks. They’re impossible to pick off, but what works really well is a lint roller. I carry one in every vehicle now just in case. It saved us a lot of discomfort about two months ago.
