We used are mother vegetable oil in That car drove around the farm all summer
We that And VW

💯🤔 what are you saying I've been putting in washer fluid in my truck since the beginning of this video you guaranteed it now you say no😮😮😮

I think Demry should get the Bronco whether she wins or not. After all she is the BOSS!
I think Demry deserves a bronco cause she got a donk… 🍑👏🏼 @robbylayton
Your better half giggling the whole time in this video is AWESOME just icing on the cake. I enjoy the fun goofy videos thrown in the middle of the hard work you all do. I just couldn't get enough of the giggles. A good attitude like that can turn the worst moments into great adventures!
Robby always saves the best part for last: Demri cracking up at Robby almost crashing, backing down the hill, was hilarious! Why do I watch this channel?? Because it's crazy fun...
I Always enjoy crazy. Not to many people (in there right mind) would try to run a vehicle on wiper fluid or vegetable oil. But good thing you told them not to, you never know. Great stuff.
Years ago one of the guys in the shop was welding the firewall and started a fire in the dashboard. He tried putting it out with anti freeze. The fire got bigger and ended up cracking the windshield.
13:54 love hillbilly catching the starter button and the key not being on.
Many years ago (20? 30?) I read of a man who modified his car to run on vegetable oil. He and a friend then drive coast to coast, stopping at fast food places and (with their permission) using the left over frying oil to power their machine. Many people were fascinated. The biggest complaint they got was driving through towns - it made everyone in their path insanely hungry!
Cars here in the Philippines run on coconut oil + diesel it's not gasoline
That works in diesel vehicles
They used the oil in place of diesel fuel, not in the crankcase.
Even "biodiesel" smells like french fries
I grown up in a town where a guy owned a diesel Mercedes his licence plate was FRCH FRY ( french fry) he ran nothing but used cooking oil and the local restaurant paid him to take away there used oil….The ol’ Merc’s tail pipe definitely smelled like a french fry…made you hungry if you where following him. I believe the only thing he did was filter the chunks out.
Wasn't that vegetable oil going into the fuel tank of that vw and yea we all know that can work in a diesel engine witch that was. Keep up the awesome content!
Yes Indeed! It was likely a DieselGate Jetta that they showed someone pouring vegetable oil into the fuel tank. Using vegetable oil instead of motor oil would likely leave you with a gummed up engine since it burns at a lower temperature than long dead dinosaur oil.
On the washer fluid you'd typically inject the ethanol and water through a venturi in the carburetor or throttle body and not pour it directly into the gas tank which would be too clean up carbon deposits on valves and perhaps eek out a few more MPG however that made you more prone to throttle plate icing. Winter washer fluid with RainEx would likely mess up your Mass Airflow Sensor and fuel injectors along with perhaps the oxygen/lambda sensor if you mixed it with your gasoline in a modern fuel injected vehicle.
On many 2Strokes the fuel also lubricates your bearings which are needle bearings so washer fluid (especially with RainEx) in the fuel wouldn't be a good idea however back in the "Good Old Days" we used highly refined Castor Bean Oil in our 2Stroke engines instead of petroleum based oil. The Castor Bean oil just gave an Motorcycle race or MotoCross event back then a special ambiance due to its fragrance that would fill the air.
Best!
@@coyoteden3773 Just be careful to go no higher than Dexron 2 or perhaps 3 as the friction modifiers in the higher versions will damage your pump while the highly detergent lower versions will be beneficial for your injector pump. At every oil change I will drain the fuel filter and refill it with Dexron to give the old school mechanical injector pumps a little TLC.
Best!
Washer fluid is primarily methanol. The goal is to rinse away whatever is on the glass and then dry quickly. Methanol evaporates quickly unless the temperature is very cold. It is also vey flammable and burns with an invisible flame. It's used to fuel race cars.
Alcohol cleans grease and adhesive really well. The other advantage to it in the blue juice is it evaporates quickly (if you ever put water in your washer fluid it beads and rolls more). All wwf says flammable, but the real winter washer fluid is good to like below 0F and has more (not sure about the bug blaster type fluids, I think those have a different detergent in it). Did watch someone run their stuff on WD40....👽
@@marklar7551 In kart racing we would run our alcohol 4 strokes on wd 40 to flush the corrosive alcohol from the carb. On 2 strokes we'd use gas and oil. Alcohol and methanol have 30% of the potential energy of gasoline so an engine tuned for gasoline will be extremely lean on alcohol. This bike if it could run on the washer fluid wouldn't live long, unless the detergent is a super lubricant. The car can adjust the fuel trim to help and 4 strokes aren't as likely to suffer piston sticking from being too lean, especially when they are low compression smog motors the car can also adjust the fuel trim to add more fual if the washer fluid is enough.
Alcohol has great wetting abilities so couplled with it's low freeze point it is an excellent additive for a liquid cleaner. Though I doubt there is much methanol in the washer fluid.
Lol that's hilarious. We just spray methanol everywhere to clean our windshields
The methanol is to prevent freezing.
Basically you're gonna need LOTS of compression, and really cold firing spark plugs
Never a dull moment in the Layton Nation 😎👍
In the turbo diesel world, windshield washer fluid is used for water/methanol injection. For cooling and extra power.
On the bike the vegetable oil was in the transmission section not actually the crankcase. Should have put it in the oil Injection tank unless using premix. Probably would have ran on vegetable oil mix.
You need to use full strength washer fluid, even the stuff you buy in stores rated for cold weather is diluted. It comes in the 55 gallon drum, that is full strength fluid.
Always a great day when Robby drops a banner.
Robby I just want you to know I love watching you and your love of your family is truly what this country needs to see more of. Thank you. Thank you for your selfless love of others. And one more thing, did you make a deal with the devil to get the boss to marry you? You definitely married up! God bless you folks. Thank you for all you guys do.
Washer fluid is around 50% methanol/50% water. If you could get 100% (realistically, 95%) Methanol, it would likely run without too much issue.
I'm surprised you Robbie, and Matt and Paul dont have large secure fuel tanks in your yards so you could buy fuel in bulk. A lot of firms here here here do, also some people in the countryside get together and buy a taker of oil for heating and cooking and the tanker just goes round delivering to each, that way buying in bulk works out cheaper , most of the farms here have big tanks of fuel for their farm vehicles. As form washer fluid containing Ethanol, there have been cases of down and outs drinking antifreeze and washer fluid thinking it is alcohol. In the glass industry we used a mix of Methylated spirits liquid detergent and distilled water to clean what were going to be the inner surfaces of double glazed units. Nothing worse than making a D G U then finding a mark on the inside of one of the panes.
Paul and Merlin have their own bulk tanks and well, we know about Matt. maybe he'll come around someday
You are right Robby, (most) two stroke engines are lubricated by the oil in the fuel. It is the transmission (gearbox) that has oil in it and needs to be changed. Some four-stroke bikes have separate engine and gearbox oil, like a car, but most just let the engine oil do double duty for the gears too.
Every single 2 stroke I've seen either had an oil tank that would feed into the gas tank or you had to add oil to the to the gas. Every single 4 stroke has an oil tank. If you think you can lubricate your engine with gas then you're nuts. To see how well it does NOT work, check out Cleetus's video of them trying it.
@@brians48nowThis keeps getting deleted, so I'll leave off the link to the engine spec sheet. Good on you for using the term "I've seen", I learned long ago not to use absolute statements lightly. The 2-stroke Detroit Diesel engine has oil sump lubrication, no lube provided by the fuel, and is a true 2-stroke cycle. There may be others, that is the one I found in less than a minute.
😂The mess you guys get into is so funny. All in all I enjoyed the whole video it was funny.😂 Thank you for sharing! 👌
I was laughing all the way through. These videos are fun! I still really enjoy the builds and repair content.
This has to be the craziest video you have ever done and nothing but pure fun.
“Are we sure about this?” 😂 “no we’re not” 😂🤘
Yes you can run it in the bike and car . But you need to adjust the air fuel mixture on both. I've done it before . Just a tip 😉 😎
I drove from South Carolina to Deleware in January. Somewhere North of Richmond, Virginia after driving at 70mph for hours in 25° weather, the Washer Fluid froze in the plastic tank. We pulled into a shop that pumped warm water through the reservoir until the ice melted away. Since it was snowy and I had been using my washer frequently, the pump and tank did not freeze solid and burst like the last guy an hour before. They drained it and filled it with Cold Weather Washer fluid (with the Ethanol) and got back on the road.
You would need a vehicle designed to run on alcohol. It takes a lot more alcohol than gas. Fuel injection helps to adjust the mixture but it needs larger injectors to get enough fuel.
they make a methanol injection kit that uses -20 washer fluid. the computer in the kit injects washer fluid into my diesel engine when it gets hot to cool the engine about 300 degrees. it has worked great for years & thousands of miles.
Yes Robby you and Hillbilly are crazy but I love it. When I was your age I would have done the same. FANTASTIC
Don't think I'd use vegetable oil as engine oil, but I do use it as bar oil in my chainsaw. Works well. Been doing it for years
The reason for putting a wing on the back of a front wheel drive car is, all shopping carts have handles
That's funny.
Yes as @Jane-lv8bd, posted there was a quite a big thing going here in Britanistan whereby people were getting waste oil from takeaways and using it in their vehicles. Seriously a vehicle would drive by and the air would be carrying a waft of chips or Chinese food.
I used to run my Landrover on veg oil all summer it never skipped a beat
Same here , 300tdi .
@@thelonerizla1 sane here. Was crap in the winter 😅
@PatsRC Why?
@PatsRC Yeah, used to go 50/50 in the cold months . Always wanted a proper double filter , pre heater etc but never got around to it .
@@billbillinger2491 it was half the price of diesel at time 👍
I used to blend windshield washing fluid. 12300 gallons of water, 310 gallons of methanol, and 1 cup of blue dye! Eddie
Windshield solution is 80% water @-23 degrees f !00% Pure alcohol -173 f-
Glad you all still find time to play.
When my husband use to work on the lawnmowers. If they had water in the tank he would put just a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol in it. The alcohol would mix with the water and help to burn it out. I would think that windshield washer fluid has water in it also. It has just enough alcohol in it to keep it from freezing. No sure but you can check it out.
I don't think there's enough the ethanol in windshield washer fluid to run an engine. I think windshield washer fluid is like 90% water 10% ethanol which would work if the other 90% was gasoline.
on a 2 stroke the "motor oil" is for the transmission and clutch. motor still needs premix
Well Robbie, methanol formula is what they run speedway bikes on. The windshield wiper fluid could be boosted by adding isopropyl alcohol 91%, also they adjust the jets to allow a better intake. It was pretty funny too watch though. Have a good week and God bless amen. 😅👍👌👋
I think you should always listen to Hillbilly. He's clearly got great ideas.😂 Great video. So many laughs.
i have only seen 1 2stroke motor without oil in it.
the old vespa ciao moped. built to run without oil.
and a tip for the 2 stroke guy.
use oil for 2 stroke outboard marine engines.
its great for taking the water out of the fuel mix.
i learned it from my grandpa.
they drove around on mopeds to get everywhere and the 23 years they had them the engine was never taken apart. only chain exhaust and tires got replaced.
he even towed his boat after that moped XD
I’ll give it a try!
2 Strokes don't have crankcase oil. Gearbox/Wet Clitch and Primary Drive oil. Oil on gas and/or oil injection into crank bearings that ends up mixing with fuel/Air Mixture.
This is wild. I just checked my Rain X Clearview Winter windshield washer fluid. It contains Methanol with the warnings about fire and spark. I never had any idea and I've used Rain X for years. Guess I should read the labels more often. LOL
You guys are as crazy (if not crazier) than I am. Years ago I used 20W50 in a 350 small block because the motor burned a lot of oil and leaked. I eventually upgraded to Hypoid 90 (oil for the rear end) and got another 6 or 8 months out of the old girl. Most of that was winter driving. Hardly burned any oil and hardly any leaks but I've got to tell you. It knocked like a son of a gun til it warmed up. Finally blew the engine apart. Took either 4 or 5 pistons out of it.
Everyone needs a Demri to support crazy ideas 👍♥️
1 gal Windshield washer fluid and 4 bottles of heat is homemade methanol for racing
Uncle Ronnie is 2 stroke AF. Life is better with a 2 stroke. Always appreciate the content.
An interesting fact about the history of vegetable oil. Vegetable oil is actually not made from vegetables however, it’s made from seeds also known as seed oil. Vegetable oil was used as engine lubricant in the early 20th century until Procter & Gamble brilliantly reposition the product as edible. Remember when you use vegetable oil, you’re basically ingesting engine lubricant lol.
Washer fluid can be added to an engine but after the gas and air mix. They used to make a plate that installed between the carb and intake manifold where you would inject the washer fluid.
This can be added to a vacuum line on a car or truck, and the idea came from dive bombers in WW2 that used water to boost the HP to pull out of a dive.
Thanks for the run down memory lane, on the dumb stuff crap I use to do!
Demeri, please tell Robby to work on the Snowcat!!! That is the vehicle he needs to be working on! Matt's Offroad Recovery is totally rebuilding his Snowcat!! Winter is coming and you guys will be needing the Snowcat!!
Loved the not so serious type of video, that was funny all the way through. Good stuff
OMG! I love you guys. This was so entertaining from the shopping to the actual testing. Haven't laughed that hard in a while. Good job!
When I was an apprentice more than 50 years ago, one of the fitters used to put hydraulic fluid into open carburetors which used to produce an amazing vegetable oil smell from the exhaust. This was in the days of Castrol R, which was used by motorcycle racers in both two and four stroke engines.
Demri gets my vote! Thanks all for sharing!
I gotta say that's one of the silliest ideas I've ever seen! LOL!! I'm amazed that the Cavaliere ran on any of that stuff!
Great way to start our mornings thank you guys!!!
That was nuts 😂😂😂. And I think Demry should get the Bronco 👍👍
W-D40 is an excellent starting fluid when needed because it has oil in it but fires & burns hot. That starts the vehicle & protects the engine & will burn off so its not to hard on fuel injectors.
Where is Ernie? You all need adult supervision. 😂
There are already a lot of vehicles out there that can run on E85, which is 85% ethanol. There are also cars that run on M85, which is 85% methanol. But they have fuel systems that can tune the mixture differently for the alcohol fuel. I think your test car could have run better if you tuned it a bit.
Gotta love that big ol' wing on the Cavalier
Good evening from Japan.... Thanks for all the great videos!
When I was in high school I had a friend who ran his two stroke motorcycle on mixed gas and caster oil. Not Caster Oil brand oil but the kind your mother made you drink. It ran great but you could follow him around by sniffing the air.
Taking 'jumping the shark' to a new level. Wonderful.
I thought the idea was to use the veg oil instead of fuel, not as engine oil 🤷
My favorite car ever. My Cavalier RS was white, too!
WASPS ! My man Hillbilly is really stepping up lately , seems he's starting to got used to cams on him , teeth done he's killing it !!👍
Diesel engines where created originally to run on vegetable oil, diesel fuel came later. Bio diesel is a combination of diesel and vegetable oil.
I have used tramsmission fluid to run a car before. I ran out of fuel and no fuel stations around. I had a gallon of atf and a large container of mystry marvel oil, It worked well, I was able to use it to get to a fuel station and fill up and continue on my merry way,
The windshield washer fluid with methanol can be used in methanol injection systems on tuned and modified cars to increase horse power and decrease intake temps. It effectively ups the octane of the fuel which will change the detonation time in the the combustion chamber. That’s why the car has to be tuned to adjust engine timing for the meth.
I found out that washer fluid was flammable when I had a fire start off the stack in my truck, I jumped in the back to put out the fire and seen a jug of windshield juice, soon as I threw the first splash on the flame I was directly removed from the bed by a big bang and bright flash. Fire in the bed was also gone.
The oil filter is an internal Paper filter on top left of engine and is probably collapsed anyway.
You guys know how to have fun for sure.
But if I shouldn’t run my car off of cooking oil I’m gonna have to buy a lot more gas to wash the dishes with. Or maybe I should just use windshield wiper fluid to wash of the 30W motor oil I use to fry chicken in?
I believe it needs to be for really cold regions to get the highest methanol content. We found that out with water meth kits for roots style blowers.
A few years ago here in the UK, there was a big shortage of diesel. I ran my RV on diesel for three weeks ! ( mixed a little gas in it so reduce the viscosity ) 🙂
Demris laugh is so cute. This whole video was funny as hell
I wonder if it would run better with the oxygen sensors disconnected? It's getting numbers back from them that make no sense (for gasoline) so it is probably adjusting fuel trim and whatnot in ways that aren't actually helping.
All of you forgot that a 2 stroke needs a mixed gas to run. The same is for the washer fluid it needs some 2 stroke oil mixed in.
I've used washer fluid in the cooling system in winter. Won't freeze and kept motor cool to get home.
Demi's laugh is cute and always contagious!
You can run veggie oil in older diesel engines as fuel as well (no turbo, EGR or CRD though). As for the antifreeze, it can work but it heavily depends on the kind you get. Classic type antifreeze you would find in larger shops are based on 85%+ pure ethanol with some additives to make it less evaporative. Basically that is the same stuff you would get for camping stoves. It is a bit more expensive but it does work. However you need to adjust you timings accordingly or you end up ruining the engine unless it is E85 or E100 certified. Alternatively you can use window deicer spray, which is expensive as well but usually is the same stuff, just smells a bit better.
The methanol injection systems like Snow Performance say you can run either spec methanol or windshield washer fluid. On the flip side, methanol cleans your windshield well too. Some injection systems have you use your factory washer fluid reservoir for the methanol injection system too.
I bet she gets a Bronco either way So I'm voting for a day off for Hillbilly. He deserves it.
We are driving with old frying oil in our Diesel Cars.. Sunflower oil also works.
5:15 Robby out of the blue says hey thiers a food truck😂😂😂
I have 2000 s10 with 2.2 motor, it runs great. Good luck with vegetable oil and washer fluid.
You have to make specific adjustments and proper devices for running vegetable oil in your engine for easy longevity
Demry been cracking me up. Glad she is in all the video with yous. Waspspspsp
Oh man i love these kids of videos!! 24:45 Ithe Chevy turned into a Subaru (those who knows, knows) 🤣😂
RL, alcohol creates a lean condition as its thinner than gasoline. We had to drill out our Go-cart carb jets to accept methanol and Steen C oil for our 2 stroke motors back in the early 60s. When your hand got wet from the exhaust they were in perfect tune and ran very fast!
years ago, they use to skip snowmobiles across rivers in the summer months, but they had to drain the oil out and use vegetable oil. in case it sunk in the river. save the fish!
Best small engine Chevy made . I still driving my 2003 xtreme . 2.2l is tough
Good ole Crapalier coming through like a beast!
i ran my old mercedes on used veg oil for 15 years just need to filter it a little . if its not an idi u should use a decarboniser as it can cook on the injector tips
Hey, using windshield washer fluid for your supercharger is a cheap alternative for methanol injection when trying to stop detonation. If that ranger has a leaf emblem it should run on windshield washer fluid. The leaf means duel fuel.
Back in the early 80's a really cocky guy I worked with had done about a year of Chemical Engineering at uni. During a month long petrol strike he concocted an alternative fuel for his 6 cylinder Toyota. He boasted that he would be the only one driving to work. Well a week or so later he was the only one not driving to work because he had completely fried the motor. We laughed louder that the Laytons.
Cooking oils are typically made up of molecules with carbon chains averaging 18 carbons in length. Motor oils typically are 20 - 30 carbons in length. Cooking oil will work as oil in a car, but will not lubricate as well, and will not last 5,000 - 10,000 miles. The additives in motor oil make it even better as a lubricant. Diesel fuel has carbon chains from 10 to 16. Cooking oils have been used as substitutes for diesel fuel (bio-diesel for example is made from palm kernel oil, which is in the 14-16 carbon chain range.) Lastly, from a chemistry definition, organic means having carbon as the basic building block. Motor oil and cooking oil are both organic.
you guys are fun!! Keep it up!
I have changed all the hydraulic fluid in an excavator for vegetable oil for Forestry to use it in a lake. The washer fluid would work better as fuel if it was the -50C stuff.
