Every performance I find of this song soars into the heavens. An incredibly moving, beautiful song and voice that grabs me every time and never lets go!
Saw her yesterday in Indianapolis. At 66 years old her voice is exactly the same as thirty years ago. What artist can claim that? She is a real life living siren.
I can't imagine being in that audience on the Dave Letterman Show and this person performs this incredible music with that angelic voice it must have been just stunning.
I know I love it ! I used to have some short album version of this on DVD where it had like two or three versions of this song. ( There's a longer extended version I think it was live performance) it came with a video too. I wish I could find it I lost it the last time I moved.
She is not only an outstanding singer, a magnificent song written and can play a lot of instruments. She is more than a great musician for all of that but she has something else, she is a music anthropologist.
I have this album too and the details of how she gained information thru intervieweing people from the area of her musical location's history was written on that album. Fantastic.
Oh no this is just dangerous for me to see, I barely have room for the instruments I already have and now I'm going to have to get an oud and a hurdy gurdy too 😩😍
She owns an extraordinary voice and her musical talents are amazing.. ...without any doubt, she is the highest figure in World Music or New Age Music, together with Enya.....I love her very heartily....
Loreena McKennitt is the "Nikola Tesla" of music. The greatest female musical genius of all time. No one else comes close when comes to the complete package of musician (greatest harpist of all time), composer, lyricist and of course the VOICE! I rest my case. Next topic of conversation....
This is one of my favourite songs ever. Did Letterman's producers ask them to speed it up way back then to fit the show's demands? If so, they did it without fault or complaint it seems True masters of their craft
🌟This song is a 🎁 from an angel that has a mystical vibe i love the energy she projects but around this time she lost a lover in boat accident 😔 she is a Bewitching goddess so chilling of a song..deep. Play when i perish 🌿🌿🌿
I wish I could flu and just go through clouds with this playing or this song would match up perfect on Legend with tome cruise, mia sara, tim curryor lord of the rings
The song is about the Druids celebrating the solstice and King Mummus the Pagan Briton king after whom the Mummers are named. Mummers went from house to house ushering in the new year dressed in colorful clothes. Many miles away in what is now Ukraine - Slavic Pagans celebrated Kupala, also a solstice celebration. The night of Kupala, was eventually synched to the nativity of St. John the Baptist. On the night of Kupala young women would weave wreathes of flowers and place a candle in the middle; these were floated on lakes or rivers. They were used to foretell the future. Bonfires were lit and betrothed couples would jump over fires holding hands - if you landed still holding hands you were meant to be.
I honestly think she was nervous and flubbed the lyrics by mistake. However, in a true display of artistry, instead of stopping, she just decided to roll with it. Her professionalism as a musician is on full display since her face during that phrase didn't even move in such a way that suggested she made a mistake.
🌟Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh When in the springtime of the year When the trees🌳🌿 are crowned with leaves When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew Are dressed in ribbons fair When owls call the breathless moon In the blue veil of the night The shadows of the trees appear Amidst the lantern light🌟 We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day Now returning back again We bring a garland gay Who will go down to the shady groves And summon the shadows there And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms In the springtime of the year The songs of birds seem to fill the wood That when the fiddler plays All their voices can be heard Long past their woodland days We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day And now returning back again We bring a garland gay And so they linked their hands and danced 'Round in circles and in rows And so the journey of the night descends When all the shades are gone A garland gay we bring you here And at your door we stand It is a sprout well budded out The work of our Lord's hand We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day And now returning back again We bring a garland gay We've been rambling all the night And some time of this day And now returning back again We bring a garland gay

I saw her in Grand Rapids about the same time period. She was mezmerizing. A living siren for sure!
Saw her in London in april this year. Simply Amazing❤️
Only that she is not evil and her voice a blessing
I can't imagine being in that audience on the Dave Letterman Show and this person performs this incredible music with that angelic voice it must have been just stunning.
This song... I could listen to it on loop and not get tired of it. So sublime.
Oh yes so can I!!!!!!!!!!!
That's what I'm doing right now haha

I’ve been doing this all day
That made me want to hear Sublime do this song now!

"music anthropologist." perfect definition for Loreena

One of the truly good voices that needs no autotune or synthetic adjustment. She's so talented.
One of the best female vocalists of all time !
This should have a million views..
It does in most other places.
I love her vocals here, so much more than the "loud whisper" on the album and single versions. I can hear ALL of the percussion and bass here, too.
I've been a fan since the music video so mesmerized me back in 1998.
She owns an extraordinary voice and her musical talents are amazing.. ...without any doubt, she is the highest figure in World Music or New Age Music, together with Enya.....I love her very heartily....
but Enya no canta en vivo :/
yes! and Celtic Ladies too!
Una maravillosa música que pertenece a todos los tiempos y evoca la Antigua europa
I recognise a lot of musicians... They have been with her for over 20 years... maybe over 30 years... that's so touching
If you made want they did,you would be with her 20 to 30 years too.
What incredible musicianship. All credit to the show staff for bringing on a true legend.
Absolutely lovely.
She has an enchanting voice, even blue birds would stop for a second and bask it in.
I LOVE THIS SONG 🎵 ❤️
Best year of my life. My son was only one and all was right with the world. Her music was sublime.
Blessed are memories nobody can take them away. Its the 1 thing nobody can steal
Great show.

Wow, I don't think I've seen this before. This must have been one of the nights when I was working late, and couldn't get home in time to catch Dave.
Wow never heard of her till now but great sounding music
This is one of my favourite songs ever. Did Letterman's producers ask them to speed it up way back then to fit the show's demands?

💯
show
The sexy witch of the East has a excellent voice.
What is that instrument at 0:15? It looks like he's turning a handle
I believe it's an hurdy gurdy 🙂 That instrument is also greatly used in this Arcade Fire performance; th-cam.com/video/cTsPTfusbBs/w-d-xo.html
Does anyone know why she changed the lyrics towards the end of the first verse?
I honestly think she was nervous and flubbed the lyrics by mistake. However, in a true display of artistry, instead of stopping, she just decided to roll with it. Her professionalism as a musician is on full display since her face during that phrase didn't even move in such a way that suggested she made a mistake.
At least its proof shes not lip synching.
She was so nervous and excited, I'm sure.
She sounded great, but she seemed really nervous. Can't blame her though
It reminds me of my Viking roots, and Olaf forgot to get on the boat, the idiot, and was left behind, and didn't get back to Sweden
🌟Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh
When in the springtime of the year
When the trees🌳🌿 are crowned with leaves
When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew
Are dressed in ribbons fair
When owls call the breathless moon
In the blue veil of the night
The shadows of the trees appear
Amidst the lantern light🌟
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
Now returning back again
We bring a garland gay
Who will go down to the shady groves
And summon the shadows there
And tie a ribbon on those sheltering arms
In the springtime of the year
The songs of birds seem to fill the wood
That when the fiddler plays
All their voices can be heard
Long past their woodland days
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
And now returning back again
We bring a garland gay
And so they linked their hands and danced
'Round in circles and in rows
And so the journey of the night descends
When all the shades are gone
A garland gay we bring you here
And at your door we stand
It is a sprout well budded out
The work of our Lord's hand
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
And now returning back again
We bring a garland gay
We've been rambling all the night
And some time of this day
And now returning back again
We bring a garland gay
Any Narnia fans in here? Tell me this isn’t Jadis. No offense to Miss McKennit, but when I read the books, this is the face I see.
I like you better as blonde, but you are my all time favourite singer.
solo a gente decerebrada no le gusta...
