Thanks for the video. I’ve been collecting ancient Chinese coins for two years, and I got thousands of them throughout two thousands years of Chinese history. For novice, it’s not a good idea to buy many silver coins before acquiring good knowledge because of rampant counterfeit.
Hi Everyone, I can’t believe the video quality was so poor back then. Must had been on my IPhone 3. To do the coins justice I think I will remake this vid with HD so that all of you can see the close up details of these coins as there are some doubters out there who question the authenticity of these coins. If I had doubts on any, I would throw them into my “tuition” aka “learning” coin pile. Stay tuned. CP
Nice collection, man. I have the same KWANG-TUNG $1. But, have you ever seen the wedding gift coin from the Qing Emperor Guangxu Yizhuang's wedding? I have this, as well!
Matt Japhet Hi Matt! Are you referring to the coins commemorating Puyi’s 1926 wedding? I have 10 cent and 20 cent issues but the dollar issue is very rare and there’s lots of fakes out there. Cheers! CP

Would like to know: just purchased a pretty new china fat man dollar (with good silver lustre), and it weighs 26.82 grams. Is that fine or likely to be a counterfeit?
Collecting these Chinese Numismatic Silver coins you need to pay attention to 3 things: authenticity, market trend, price. Now, 2015's latest market trend is 1949 Taiwan 5 Chiao! T5C is compd. in 72%slv and 28% cpr, about the same size as a quarter, The T5C is the best seller right now.
***** I never really got into Taiwanese coins. Maybe because of the fact that after the Nationalist Government fled the mainland, the pretty much only issued base metal coins with the exception of certain commemoratives that were sold. I do like Taiwan provincial issues by the Qing dynasty when it was part of China. CP
***** The Mexican 8 reales were sometime "considered" as Chinese coins (or Chinese issued currency), because there were so many of them around throughout Qing D to Nationalist and Chinese Soviet period (1920'-1949). CS red regime adopted the design produced their own "Labour dollar". Well, sharing with you some of the interesting fact.
Seems that there r many fake coins produced in China nowadays with good weight and thickness. A trader once said that it is more important to look at the edge. Do u know how to do that? Shall be grateful if u could make a video teaching that.
I notice you've left these coins as you bought them, without cleaning, and that's a good thing. All of those black patches and blobs, and dull overall toning - tho this CAN be faked - are good indicators you've got a real coin. In this field, that's a big worry. Worn is good, too. You pointed out varieties in the Yunnan circles-under-dragon 50¢ (Y257) and that's a good first buy for someone starting out in Chinese silver - the commonest of that size, and less likely to be a fake, especially if you find one toned and with a bit of wear (they didn't circulate much).
Hi Scott, I'm a believer of coin conservation. I learned early on that dark toning and dirt is unrelated to grade which is about wear. So, I avoid cleaning coins. I don't want to add to any pre-existing damage as we are just temporary curators of our collections.
Hi Steven, if you email me a scan of both sides of your coin to coinpicker@hotmail.com then I'll translate the date for you. But my guess is $200-$250. CP
Hi Aldi, that’s great! However the coin with man riding horse is likely to be fake as that is an incredibly rare fantasy issue that is heavily faked. Thanks! CP
So why is your camera out of focus in barely see the picture I also have dragon coins my no more better condition than yours perhaps can see all the fine detail on the coin
Very nice
