    Another great video just giving a progress update without any for or against discussions. One thing that does surprise me is the amount of land and infrastructure needed that will be outside the line of the railway itself. I agree that a lot more infrastructure is needed than would be the case in other countries. In some they might just bulldoze the line through without any considerations to local people or the environment.

      Where the railway goes in a cutting the sides of the cutting are battered to prevent a collapse of the embankments. They will be landscaped over at completion.

    There’s 500+ bridges being built along the HS2 line, that’s without mentioning the overhead viaducts which amounts to 50. It’s an enormous infrastructural undertaking. The HS2 website gives you an insight of all the works been carried out.

    When one looks at the enormous amount of civil engineering work on this line the original budget was ridiculously low !

      as a comparison _ what is the projected cost of the lower thames crossing _ 9-10 billion _ and it's in the wrong place _ Dartford crossing gets very busy _ capacity there not 15miles downstream but it might not happen _ and they have spent actually how much so far on just the planning & some survey works etc _ 800 -900million without actually building anything _ yes _ original budget hopelessly optimistic

    There is SO MUCH MORE INFRASTRUCTURE per kilometer , than has to installed , than in europe , just amazing , this is where the costs incured per kilometer comes into reality .... oh mind you what a great idea / reality ...lets have a railway at 150kilometers long and a railway designed for 325 kilometers an hour ..only on the island that can happen well done islanders well done ...😊😊😊😊😊
    Thank you for video , great views of rail crossing and area ... again thank you ...

      If the project had been better managed then it wouldn't just be a 150km railway. If it had been connected to HS1 and the rest of the European high-speed rail network that would have made a lot more sense.

      jesus christ it's a LINE there are thousands of square miles either side of it. Motorway projects need constant widening and people like you never seem to care about that.

    What a waste of money, just so a few rich bankers can get to their London offices a bit quicker. It's outdated before it's even complete. It might have made sense 30 years ago. Not anymore.

      What a ridiculous comment. It will be of great benefit to the people currently standing in crammed vestibules on WCML services, to the people forced to drive or take coaches because they're currently priced off the railways, to the people who only get one train an hour stopping at their local station because capacity is wasted by expresses, to the freight schedulers who have to run trains via circuitous routes at stupid times of day because the WCML is at capacity etc. etc. Nothing much to do with your straw man 'rich bankers'.

      @@charliep1973 People won't use it because the prices will be too high compared to driving and by the time it's finished even more people will be working remotely. It's a white elephant project that is completely out of touch with reality and doesn't take into account what will happen in the near future. Oh and it's massively over budget not to mention the massive damage it is doing to the countryside and wildlife.

      @@jaspercaelan4998 You seem to be perpetuating this weird myth that HS2 is some kind of premium option, leaving the existing railway unchanged alongside it. That's not the case at all - it's where the majority of long-distance services will be moved to, giving thousands more seats a day for those travellers, plus loads more slots on the legacy railways for local services. Average prices will be cheaper because there will be an excess of available seats to start with rather than a shortage. And working habits aren't really relevant when the vast majority of long-distance travellers aren't travelling for work. Finally, 'massive damage' is pure hyperbole.

    • @jaspercaelan4998
      @jaspercaelan4998 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@charliep1973 Prices won't necessarily drop due to "an excess of seats" because rail ticket pricing isn't purely driven by supply and demand; instead, it is shaped by operational costs, government policies, and market strategies that aim to maximise revenue, not just fill seats. The environmental impact of the line in some places stretches up to 1 mile wide, 100 ancient woodlands that took centuries to develop have been damaged or felled, huge amount of cement causes significant carbon emissions, wetlands and waterways are also affected as well as wildlife corridors. The impact is HUGE and is considered one of the largest environmental deverstations in modern UK history.

      @@jaspercaelan4998 I can't tell if you've been misled or are deliberately setting out to mislead, but '100 ancient woodlands' is pure fiction. The Victorians destroyed hundreds or thousands of times more ancient woodland building their railways because it was so cheap and easy and avoided landowners. And you make my point for me - current fares are basically a tool to force people away from the overcrowded peaks.
