Re 'Illang'- no one expects a happy ending in any Korean film, it's kind of their trade mark to lose the main characters, but this one went against that trend. Great review on this franchise, thank you.
Hello my name is Johan, I’m an actor in East Asian Film industry, I saw your channel and I gladly subscribed to your channel, I like your efforts you put about the Asian film industry. The Panzer Cop saga is interesting, just finished watching The Red Spectacles and little surprised that its less known. Anyway keep up the good work and looking forward to see more.
@@lamaisonducinemaasiatique4516 I'm just surprised that it never got an adaptation that was anime or ova. I think right now, considering the political climate..its perfect
@@terminatorofbaal7853 It seems there were such discussions at some point according to some old Oshii interviews. But, obviously, it didn't work out. I agree with you: given the current political environment and the cult status the armour has gained all over the world, OAV or anime would certainly be successful commercially. Maybe they consider it too old fashioned and too "niche". A misjudgement in my opinion. Still, if there is enough noise about it from fans, it can still happen in the future.
I think the martial art fights in Illang is more in line in tge kerberos universe than the og films where the mc can splits people in half with his martial arts. Them wearing shades makes it more look like a Matrix scene made back in the 80s
That's an interesting take on it. But, if I think it doesn't fit with the Kerberos universe, it's less to do with its execution (which, indeed, is fine) and more with the tone. It's all about politics, betrayal and the search of oneself humanity. The action is much more subdued. And with Illang, it felt like Kim Jee-Woon wanted to finish the film in a classic action blockbuster way, which felt weird to me. Maybe if he had done his own take in the Kerberos universe, more action oriented from the start, rather than remaking Jin Roh, it could have worked better.
Is there any more info about panzer jager? all i can find it the wikipedia pages and the sources it links to don't help much. it seems like a really interesting story but i don't speak japanese so i have no idea how i'd be able to learn more about it.
Many people have expressed the same wish. It's really strange no publisher has decided to get it translated given the cult status of the Kerberos Panzer Cops universe. But we can still hope it will finally happen at some point! Have a good watch of Stray Dog!

Very nice explanation. do you have any sources on volume 2 or the part 2 manga?. I heard that in the volume 2 plot it was explained that Tetsuro kai in the introduction of part 2 was the leader of a jgsdf new panzer jager unit (molosser unit to be precise) went undercover in Kerberos training academy
Thanks! I'll check in my notes. But it was not easy to get precise info on the second part of the manga so I tried to combine different sources to have clearer idea of its content. Still, nothing would replace a real release of the manga with a proper translation. One can hope it will happen at one point! I'll post again if I manage to find it.
Thanks! Unfortunately, there isn't much in English on the subject. The best ressource I have find is a fan blog which sums up some of the many books dedicated to Oshii in Japan and which gives you a fascinating glimpse about the man's influences and thinking: ehoba.hatenablog.com/archive
It's from the Gantz Perfect Answer OST (the second live adaptation made of the manga) by Kenji Kawai. I haven't an english name for the track but in japanese it's 6th track on the official release of the OST. Both OST of the Gantz films by Kawai are real hidden gems in his discography.
