Very helpful tips, Been saving to buy one of this, and been watching your vids kinda help me maintain it when i got one 🤗 this cheap in some other countries but not here in the Philippines 😔
Great budget build. If you don't try the stock tires. You'll always wish you did. Taller tires will help with the clearance and speed. I have an 85t. Love the torque and smoothness. But, no wheel speed for hill climbing.
I know this is an old post. But, if someone like me stumbles in... There is, what seems to be, a forgotten lube; powdered graphite. It can be bought in bulk, but some fine shavings from a pencil will work. Mix a little with about an equal amount of light lube (like Tamiya) to get it to stick. Light coat on all involved gear teeth with a small paint brush and you should be good. Be warned, it's pretty much permanent if it gets on clothes. Edit to add: A JIS screwdriver is a great solution for stuff coming from the Pac Rim.
I do appreciate how you'll just TEAR INTO a project like this!!! Guts. One piece of advice, respectfully...... It was determined a few Years back by Electrical Engineers, that the REALLY High Turn Motors (55 and up), DO slow you down... but get MUCH hotter than higher Turn Motors, AND actually have LESS Torque!! 😱😵 Truth. And it made a LOT of us Comp Crawlers think.... John Holmes, Owner of Holmes Hobbies, came up with an elegant solution (HE is also an Electrical Engineer). "Volt Up, Power Up, and Gear Down". Meaning: use Higher Turn Motors (27, 35, 45 Turn), and lower your Gear Ratio as much as possible. This will run considerably cooler, and allows much more aggressive Crawling!! (For those of us who are STILL using Brushed Motors). You've got Skills, for sure! You could easily make some Slots from those Motor Mount Holes with your Dremel, to allow the Motor to slide, to fit a smaller Pinion Gear. With a 35 or 45 Turn Motor, that Budget Rig could be a BEAST!!! 👍👍🍻🍺 Just suggestions.... Of course, this is an individual's Hobby! Carmine 💥 ⛽
Hi I have no problems with this it's perfectly how I want it, I did put a small 12 tooth pinion gear in it later on with the 80T motor in another of my upgrade videos. the 80T runs ice cold and has plenty power to boot! I also I like the 80T because your batteries last much longer for me because I go for miles at a time up in the mountain and don't like carrying a lot of extra batteries for nothing. Thank you
I go one further, and use Marine Grease. Considering how LITTLE you actually use on a RC, it's really not that much more money. Best of all, it's WATERPROOF!! 👍👍
If I want to crawl I’ll use my axial ax-10 scorpion. I just want a cheap fun basher and this looks like it will be the ticket with a few adjustments such as a motor with less turns and better shocks. The open differentials shouldn’t matter for my purposes. If they do I’ll just plastic weld the spider gears in the diffs.
This one I know I've seen.... I already Liked it previously!! 😉 Valuable information though. I also use Grease as a Sealant for the Gearbox Cases. When I USED to still have some, Tamiya AW Grease works even BETTER at sealing - and stays in place longer than anything else I've ever tried!!! If you've got AW Grease, I'd strongly recommend it. 😊 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
I totally agree with you! For things like Reciever Boxes, or Gearboxes that might get submerged often... AND you don't take it apart that often. I feel it's worth the Security. And it should be clear by now, I can't afford to wast ANYTHING!! 😜😲 Although..... If you can apply it thin and neat enough to not squirt out all over the place - RTV Silicone works better than ANYTHING else! Water, Dust, Micron Particles - NOTHING gets past RTV Silicone!! And, a normal sized Tube should last you YEARS. Just a friendly suggestion. 😉
😊👍Thanks, I am going to use the stock tires I got them to be pretty good, Don't really need oil shocks for how slow it will be going , and yes I wish the pinion gear was smaller...maybe a future option. Thanks for watching.
Use yhe smaller 1.9s or the stock tires they will get stickier as you use it and break them in just remove the foams on the stocks for better crawling grip there not to bad 😊
Great vid steve. It's looking pretty sweet. I'd say do the initial test run on the stock wheels then use the wheels that were closest to that front stock wheel because it looks closest to the same size of the stock ones and they look like nice treads
Great video. Wish they made metal gears with lockouts for the diffs. Try stock tires first. Looking forward to seeing you test it and what kind of torque it has.
😊👍Hi I own the hammers search my channel it is kind of the same just smaller the twin hammers is 1/10 this is 1/12. Look at this video I kind of compare them in it. th-cam.com/video/kINqwHCC3ic/w-d-xo.html
Hey there Shen, I plan to install a brushed 540 motor with 80T as well on a stock pinion gear. Would you recommend this for a crawler setup? I mainly do crawling & climbing on my Wltoys 12428.
Shen RC thanks Shen, I opted to get the 540 55T motor. Gonna use it with stock pinion gear. I hope this setup will better my crawling experience with the 12428.
Seems like a lot of work for a toy grade RC. Nice work though bud. I think it shouldn't be too difficult to slot out one of the blue motor mount screw holes so that you could use whatever pinion you wanted.
At about 5:55 you start putting grease to help seal the gear case to keep dirt & sand out. What grease do you use for this? Can you link it in the description please? Thx!
😊👍 Hi this grease is my grease you can use it on everything and coat all the metal axles and stuff with a thin coating to stop corrosion😊 see on this page on my site the heavy version. www.pprslots.com/rc.htm Thanks for watching.
😊👍Thanks And Yes you coat around the tires so they are wet with it and you set it aside and let it dry in and they will grip better...some tires may not work because they are silica compound but most do. see this th-cam.com/video/DW_Huo6R-ek/w-d-xo.html
sweet mods bud, knocking it out of ther park on this one.You got all the bells and whistles for working on rc's. What was that deal you were using for rotation of tire turns? Have you looked into the slide bar on steering that gets hung up with dirt sand etc real easy. Also I ran 1.9 tires on mine for really short time yet snapped the rear drive shaft. I ended up putting some 96mm off brand crawler tires and worked great not to heavy for the drive terain and no rubbing of steering linkage. Thumbs up!
😊👍👍Thanks well I hope it works at least some what good. here is the RPM meter I use it's awesome! www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Tachometer-Laser-Photo-Non-Contact-RPM-Tach-Meter-Motor-Speed-Gauge-New/391682278342?epid=23013514061&hash=item5b321543c6:g:fW8AAOSw42dZDMYh:sc:USPSFirstClass!07508!US!-1
Hey Steve. Just a thought, but do you think you could Rit dye all the yellow parts? Also, does it have alot of self tapping screws? Thinking about getting ones for a project. 👍😎✌
Hi I would not attempt to dye the parts they probably will melt... and yes lots of screws. It runs pretty good stock if you want a nice fast inexpensive RC. 😊👍👍 Thanks
i tried that rite dye trick on some bruder conversions parts off of a dozer wont do that again didnt work and it literally shrunk up the tracks and made them stiff wouldnt fit the dozer again lol.
What up doe Stevie boy! Ur making me wanna buy one of these n follow u on upgrading it! Damn u I said no more rc’s till last ones r paid for lol👍👍👊👊📹📹u should try stock tires first keeping budget lower n treat the tires n video how u treat the tires,I’ve never treated tires but heard of it with wd40 just spray them soak them what? Thad be cool
Hi thanks for stopping by, So far I have had no problems with the gears yet... they do sell hop up full metal gears if you want to upgrade it and make it stronger. 😊👍
Hi thanks for watching, So far so good I went many many miles with it up in the mountains check out my other videos. I have the metal gears here if anything fails but nothing so far...my diffs are locked with epoxy.
Shen RC awesome man I like my wL 12428 to go fast LOL going to be posting some more videos of it sometime another you can look at my videos they’re pretty bad lmao
😁👍 Hi, no I left it in until something broke and I did not have any steering anymore than later in my build I used real RC electronics. Thanks for watching.
excuse me, one more thing, I have a new one 12428, Can I just change the Engine, Esc, Servo, whithout the transmitter??, Can I still use the original??
Hi it should auto bind. I think you just turn the radio on and then the buggy and after a few seconds pull throttle trigger it should be bound to the buggy.
😊👍Hi thanks, they are not to bad if you take the foams out and coat them with WD40 and let it dry in the tires before using it, It worked pretty well with the stock tires when I did this to them.
Very helpful tips, Been saving to buy one of this, and been watching your vids kinda help me maintain it when i got one 🤗 this cheap in some other countries but not here in the Philippines 😔

We all have ideas, but in the end - YOU have to enjoy what you have! Otherwise, it's not much of a Hobby, is it?
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks 😉👍 Yep that's true!
nice work steve have fun RCing
😊👍 Thanks you know I will!
Im with you on the grease i put it on everything and everything seems to run better great video i really like that motor👍👍💣💣
😃👍 Yep for sure, Thanks bud.
I go one further, and use Marine Grease. Considering how LITTLE you actually use on a RC, it's really not that much more money.
Best of all, it's WATERPROOF!! 👍👍
Wow! Really awesome buggy! You're making me want to get a new RC Buggy.
Cool! you can pick one of these up for like $60.00 or so and stock out of the box they are a blast to run. 😊👍👍
If I want to crawl I’ll use my axial ax-10 scorpion. I just want a cheap fun basher and this looks like it will be the ticket with a few adjustments such as a motor with less turns and better shocks. 😁👍 Yes AW grease does work great I used it before but it's just to expensive to wast for a seal like I show.

Good effort. A lot of screws. Too bad about the big pinion. Try it with the soft tires. What about the shocks?
😊👍Thanks, I am going to use the stock tires I got them to be pretty good, Don't really need oil shocks for how slow it will be going , and yes I wish the pinion gear was smaller...maybe a future option. Thanks for watching.
Shen RC Looking forward seeing the tires and what WD40 can do :-) And yeah I agree, flexible suspension is more important than oil when going slow.
Use yhe smaller 1.9s or the stock tires they will get stickier as you use it and break them in just remove the foams on the stocks for better crawling grip there not to bad 😊
😊👍👍 Thanks already done that they are much softer without those hard foams! putting some WD40 on them also!
Shen RC awesime lol let me know how the wd40 works on the tires!
Heard of using simple green but never wd40 to soften the rubber lol
Hi the wd40 worked good they got more grippy.
Shen RC awesome ill have to try it sometime 😊
Have a video on it how to use it search my channel 😊👍
cool stuff bro
😊👍👍 Thanks
your welcome

Great video. Wish they made metal gears with lockouts for the diffs. Try stock tires first. Looking forward to seeing you test it and what kind of torque it has.
😊👍👍 Thanks, They so make a metal gear set for this one, will try out the stockers first!
Excellent part 2 , great work !!
😊👍Thanks a lot.
Gotta try the stock tires. Great stuff man :)
😊👍 Thanks
Oh cool! Left a big like
😊👍👍 Thanks man!
Great build man. Looking good👍👍
😊👍👍 Thanks I hope it at least works some what good.
It would be cool to do a comparison of the vaterra twin hammers and this vehicle. To me they look alike.
😊👍Hi I own the hammers search my channel it is kind of the same just smaller the twin hammers is 1/10 this is 1/12. Look at this video I kind of compare them in it. th-cam.com/video/kINqwHCC3ic/w-d-xo.html
I bought some cheap crawler tires for mine. 👍👍
Cool 😊👍👍 I have some tire sets but I did some work on the stockers and they are not the best but should be ok now for what they are.
That's a sod the front end to strip down. But I would go with the standard tyres first and use WD40 as the larger wheels will cause more torque.
😊👍That's what I will be doing, Thanks
I'm late to this, but the diff comes out with only 8 screws. And stock tires soften up after a while of running
Hey there Shen, I plan to install a brushed 540 motor with 80T as well on a stock pinion gear. Would you recommend this for a crawler setup? I mainly do crawling & climbing on my Wltoys 12428.
Hi this will be slow and is better for crawling, I also have a video showing how to use a smaller pinion gear in this buggy also. THANKS
Shen RC thanks Shen, I opted to get the 540 55T motor. Gonna use it with stock pinion gear. I hope this setup will better my crawling experience with the 12428.
That will still be much better for crawling than the stock motor because it's way to fast in stock form.😊👍👍
Seems like a lot of work for a toy grade RC. Nice work though bud. I think it shouldn't be too difficult to slot out one of the blue motor mount screw holes so that you could use whatever pinion you wanted.
😊👍Thanks man, I most likely will do that down the road...Nice to see ya again 😊
Def use bigger tires with slower motor might gain some ground speed.

Hi I would not use vaseline for RC
love this build man!! great job :)

great video again. nice work bro!
😊Thanks much appreciated.
WD40 is the trick for the tires? Awesome Steve.
😊👍Thanks And Yes you coat around the tires so they are wet with it and you set it aside and let it dry in and they will grip better...some tires may not work because they are silica compound but most do. see this th-cam.com/video/DW_Huo6R-ek/w-d-xo.html

Nice upgrade. The motor looks huge! Is the stock motor a 390 motor?
😊👍👍 Hi Thanks, the motor in the wltoys is a standard 540 sized motor the other brands have a small 390.

Did you not change the speed control device?
😁👍 Hi, no I left it in until something broke and I did not have any steering anymore than later in my build I used real RC electronics. Thanks for watching.
excuse me, one more thing, I have a new one 12428, Can I just change the Engine, Esc, Servo, whithout the transmitter??, Can I still use the original??

Buona sera qualcuno mi potrebbe aiutare ...o cambiato il ricevitore ed ora nn si collega più al telecomando...grazie mille x chi mi darà una mano

@@ShenRC grazie mille gia fatto ma nn mi risponde
How much its budget for u its 100 dollars its mot cheap at all
Hi I got this for $59.99 on sale and put a $11.00 80T motor and a $4.00 12T pinion gear, tires and wheels are optional.
Not gonna be happy with the cheapy stock tires.
😊👍Hi thanks, they are not to bad if you take the foams out and coat them with WD40 and let it dry in the tires before using it, It worked pretty well with the stock tires when I did this to them.
Nice tip, thanks Shen. I got a similar model, JJRC Q39, will try your method before spending money on crawler tires.
Looking forward to more vids.
😊👍Cool! I have the JJRC Q39 also and have loads of videos of it also.
hah! I just looked, I've watched some of your Q39 vids too. 👍 on all.
😊👍thank you.
