Counterpoint, some characters should ALWAYS have their signature weapon ,personal damage and damage contribution aren't everything. Characters like Raiden for example literally have only two F2P alternatives that are worth using, and those alternatives are highly disputed between many polearm characters. Therefore Raiden is better served with her own Signature weapon. Because Raiden is more than just generating energy for your team and she'll have around or more than 250% ER in every build. So using Fav on her is an absolute waste, when you could give it to your Shenhe, or Yaoyao

There's IMO 4 scenarios when pulling a 5 star weapon is worth it. 1. It's a very good generalist option for multiple characters you like. 2. It's a very good support weapon (like crane's echoing call, Nilou signature, Elegy) 3. Very good weapon for characters that do most of the team's damage output, like Scara or Neuvillette. 4. It's for a character you really like, so you just want to get the best for them.
I think Crane in this case it's more specific for Xianyun teams specifically since it's pretty difficult to really use it on any other character. In comparison Elegy or Key are still good in other characters so they also fall in the 1st category but I agree with your takes nonetheless.
I think there's a 5th one as well, which is basically for Xinyan... it fixes a fundamental flaw with the character's kit. Admittedly, that kind of falls into category 4, but I do think it makes Redhorn a particularly interesting weapon. It is strong for Itto, fixes Xinyan up to be a proper 4 star DPS, and is also great for Noelle.
@@Axterix13 a fellow Xinyan main I see, very based. Also have Redhorn for her, but serpent spine r5 is most of the times just slightly behind it (exept for plunges) if you can maintain the stacks. Although Redhorn also allows you to do Def sands at c6, which is a very small damage loss but big survivability increase
Another thing I wanted to add regarding the 5 star weapons is how often they arent the best options just based on what artifacts you have available. I have SoH for HuTao but rarely use it on her because I have yet to roll a decent crit rate circlet. So the RNG of artifact farming can essentially stop a character from properly maximizing the increase their signature weapon offers because of overall stat balance.
IMO vertical investment priority should generally focus on teamwide significant damage buffs first- things like Furina C1/C2, Nahida C2, etc.,. as their contribution to team dps is a consistent percent rather than dependent on damage distribution. Since no character does 100% of the team's damage, basically every personal damage increase gets diluted, and this is obviously a lot more apparent with most mixed distribution teams.
here is a dif viewpoint I have all 5 stars at C0 and 36 abyss with a 30-60 secs to spare. If I get Furina C2 or Nahida C2 it makes the game even easier for me so less fun... XDDD
My team: Eula C0R1 Raiden C3R1 Furina C1 Mika C2 What im aiming for next: Furina C2 + weapon, Eula C6 and Mika C6. Once that team is ready then I'll work on a Navia team in the same fashion as I already have Navia C0R1 or if I manage to snatch a Shenhe then I'll build a team with her.

That's the logical approach and something I keep in mind But you also gotta consider that a lot of the times the kinds of people who pull for signatures aren't necessarily people who are trying to min/max everything. A lot of the times people will put a signature just because they really like that character or they want that character specifically to do more damage. So in that sense, the actual team DPS impact isn't as important. Since teams can already clear Abyss at C0R0, people really just want their favorite unit to do more personal damage
One thing worth noting about the Redhorn... it is good for Itto, but it also is great for Noelle and Xinyan. The latter especially. So it is a five star weapon... that also essentially gives you a new four star to play. That said, the biggest hindrance to five star weapons is the weapon banner system. It is just so full of fail, with two featured weapons, the five four star ones, the pain of getting refines for the weapon banner only four star ones, and so n. It, I'd say, is probably number 3 on my list of things Genshin needs to address. #1 being lack of an endgame/stuff to do when we have more time to play and #2 the amount of artifact RNG.
True. But why only Noelle and Xinyan? It's simply great claymore in general, for Diluc or Beidou as well. It's 5* crit weapon, so of course it's amazing. And yes, it's a great point that it 'gives you a new four star to play'. But again, it's not a specific case here. It's general value of good 5* weapons. They make weak characters relevant, your good characters - great, working well with your best characters, etc, they are easy fix for your builds, save you months of artifact farming and your mental health, they open hypercarry playstyle, cause you simply NEED a 5* weapon here to be competitive with other teams... Yup. And this video is terribly misleading, as it usually is with theorycrafters hyperfixated on DPS calculations that have little to do with reality. 5* weapons are totally worth it and underrated.

valid arguments but fashion impact, also personally i rather get weapons over constellations even if constellations give better returns since most of them dont change character playstyle just like weapons but weapons can be transfered and in someway change the way u build characters via stat allocation
Some cons do change character playstyle though and the team building as well. Hu tao c1 for example, neuvilette c1 allows you to not run a shielding character making his gameplay very smooth and comfy, wriothesley c1 fixes all his problems etc. Whereas weapons are just bigger numbers. Transferrable sure but genshin is already way too easy at this point. Especially with furina bloating everyone's numbers. Using Furina c2 is like giving everyone on the team a 5* weapon lol.

@@YungXin C2 furina allows anyone to be a hypercarry since she is the best damage buffer and is a staple in any hypercarry teams including dori without any 5* weapon. 5* weapons is also pretty restrictive actually since there are 5 different weapon types. If you only have homa for example, you can't make dori hypercarry. You would have to wish for 5 different weapon types, which may require you to wish 1000+ times compared to furina c2. And not to mention, some weapons just doesn't fit certain characters because some characters gain crit rate ascension and you can't give them jade cutter coz you will have too much crit rate. Some characters also have different playstyles that doesn't fit certain weapons, lyney's sig weapons buffs ca which is not compatible with yoimiya's playstyle. You can still use it but the weapon's potential will be wasted. Furina doesn't have any of this restriction.

i personally, only pull for weapons for characters I really like and want them to do more dmg, more often than not, their sig weapons look really good on them which is something I favour as well this is the exact reason why in hsr I always try to use the LC on a char with their face on it even if its a worse option for them unless I literally have no choice and the LC with their face on it is just a plain bad option
For me it's all about the crit on 5 star weapons. It makes it significantly easier to build characters when I have a crit weapon. The 4 star weapons with crit don't seem nearly as good except maybe serpent spine but that weapon also has an annoying effect if not run with Zhongli/strong shielder.
Especially for catalysts when even the 4 stars are things like widsith with 1 random buff active 1/3 of the time, which worsens if the character doesn’t need one of the passive buffs. If I get yae, kagura’s is defo on my radar, even if it’s on a future rerun. As someone who is sick of building characters and finds weapons easier to farm for, I’m entering a phase where I’m happier to pull for cons or weapons to improve my existing characters, but on the occasional new character I do want to get or for characters I want to rebuild when a new artifice set releases, weapons definitely appeal for their ease of building. Think nilou for the almost year in which key had the best HP scaling by miles - probably the best weapon I ever pulled and I still don’t regret saving for it alongside her first banner (although I would’ve picked nahida over it if I didn’t save enough for both)
I don't have a single signature weapon in my account, for me it makes the game more fun using only "free to play" weapons since the end game is relatively not that hard especially if you're a veteran player. Though i do understand people pulling for the signature weapon just for the aesthetics, same reason why people buy the skins 😂
Spiral Abyss really hard for me, my damage really low, I just can barely got 26 star, and last Abyss I got 27 stars, even I already played this game about 3 months now, Idk why my damage is really low

This tbh, I've never pulled on a weapon banner, have no fav swords and only one (garbage) 5 star weapon, I'm still 36 starring and have some primos to spare. F2P btw.
There’s so much room for improvement on banners too .. instead of just giving us 3 star weapons.. they could give us mora exp books weapon ascension material… there’s so much they can do which they will never do sadly .. they could even have a 4 star fragile resin card which u get on every 10 pull or 20 pull
if they give you a green book instead of 3 star weapon it dont do much. if they increase and we get purple books that are 60 extra purple books per month for F2p. 60 purple books are 200 resin - mostly worthless. it is a bad suggestion cos it will destroy game economy balance. they will reduce the books from events/chests/ley lines to compensate cos the economy works if you lose resources and play/pay to get them

Tbh I just want 5 star weapons for characters whose best alternative is a 3 star. I love Tighnari, it just feels disrespectful to give him Slingshot, or Alhaitham Harbinger... even if it's not their sig they deserve something fancier, haha
Variety is the spice of life. I think there's no reason to pull for a weapon before you feel like you have enough characters to experiment with. My Main DPS units right now are Xiao, Diluc, Eula, Childe, Cyno, Neuvillette and Navia, all Floor 12 ready. After I get Kazuha, I may consider sniping Neuvi's signature, but he's hitting 45-50k per hit with Amber anyway, could just save for Natlan.
Early weapon banner pulls are not just for the signature but also the 4*. New players don't have access to many event weapons and an abundance of favonious but usually just a couple bells and flutes. The game doesn't shower you in billets either.
@@Nephaleit still takes a lot of time but I wonder how many billets they give through the upgrade "building" in each region or subregion like the Aranara Tree, Sacred Sakura Tree, Lumenstone upgrade, etc.
@@Larkian Not enough. I am a fairly new player and completed all of them. enough to r5 the inazuma sword and r1 bennetts sword but now i am kinda out of them. And not all craftable weapons are good. Craftable bows are just sad.
@@NephaleMaybe you're right, I didn't consider that since I've gotten A LOT of fav weapons while going for characters (day 1 player, quit in 2.2 and returned in 3.8) and have R4 sword, R8 spear, R6 Bow and R6 Codex, don't think I've pulled more than 3 of them on weapon banner
Really liked the way you systematically explained this topic. Hadn’t thought about a weapon’s value as in its contribution to the entire team’s damage. What would have been nice to mention is the the fact that a signature can make a character easier to build, mainly because of crit stats and sometime high atk or hp scaling to reach certain thresholds. Especially for newer players like me, who don’t have that good relics and struggle to maintain a good crit ratio without such a weapon. Yes there are some crit 4 stars like the BP weapons, but they’re not free either.
I pulled on 5* weapon banner when I needed the 4 and 5 star weapons so I can build more characters. I have every 4* and I enjoy them very much. I like swapping teams a lot so they are all decently built with their own builds. As such, I have very random smattering of 5* weapons. I haven’t pulled in a while because the event weapons have held me over.
I'd played for a year and a half and still didn't have a Favonius Sword, so you'd better believe I pulled a bunch on the last weapon banner. Raiden and Yoimiya got their signatures, but more importantly I have an r5 and r3 Fav sword now xD
In practice the frontload alone makes having a limited 5* weapon a huge increase over the best 4* (vhunt) so in Childe's case this wasn't really accurate.
I have to laugh b/c pretty much any video about Genshin, in almost any subject, is a video about Furina now. I'm not mad. It's just pretty amazing how important of a character she is.
She is universal buffer/subdd that doesn't force you to play circle impact. Even old characters as Eula, Xiao or Noelle became much more effective and comfortable to play in abyss conditions having Furina in team.
Weapons are transferable, that's enough to say that weapons are an over time more worthy investment than a character's constellation or even a character. Though long term weapons are also susceptible to more competition as well. That said, characters open up new gameplay, which weapons rarely ever do, meaning that characters are still probably king, but weapons might be better long term unless you plan to play the same team for years. However, that seems just miserable, unless it's an infusion or otherwise gameplay changing low con upgrade. I just know that the increase in damage from Oathsworn eye to Xianyun's signature was direct and insane. It was like 35% or so on the plunges.
weapons, unlike new characters, don't require artifacts. that's enough for me to consider hyperinvesting in favs. Going all in on 2 teams, and when they're fully decked out I will consider making a 3rd. I"m absolutely all good with rocking the same few teams, due to how much I like certain characters vs the others.
That's an opinion I can't share sadly. Any investment into Furina makes the rest of my characters feel that much more fun, and she herself is super fun to me. Have the opinion you want, but don't make it a general "she's so boring" and keep it to yourself ^^@@smallBrainsPeckersEgos
I recognized this fact immediately and it's why i dumped everything into her banner, and sitting pretty. Furina c2 Hu Tao with cloud retainer is just glorious to play.
If i can 36* the abyss with 4* weapons, what's the point of pulling for them, rather than spending those primogems on new characters. New characters > new playstyles > new teams > game doesn't get boring if you switch it up every now and then. It's that simple
I used to think that but now i pulled nahida c2 as a welkin spender and i got to say, i can use soo many more characters in abyss now i use 4 stars as my main carries now if i want, c2 is a teamwide dmg increase, i can use my favs and nahidas defence shred and use many more characters, keqing,c0 raiden,even neuvilletec0r0 neuvillete is now doing increased dmg from it. Originally i didn’t even do it cause of meta but i wanted to show how much i like nahida, this was just something i noticed.
Your argument is double edged. "If I can 36* Abyss, why would I want to spend weeks building new characters only to experience a different kind of playstyle for 15 minutes every two weeks? Why should I spend primos at all when Bennett XL and XQ Kuki take care of both sides of abyss no matter the content?" Farming Bosses and Talents also gets monotonous pretty quickly not to mention Mihoyo's latest tendencies to never give enough regional specialties on map to max out your character preventing your from playing the unit you just pulled.
Zhongli: the most beautiful looks, weapon, artifact set of all time And the worst kit, weapon passive, and artifact passive of all time I think Albedo and Baizhu`s signatures aren`t that bad
Do the same weapon ranking for 4 stars, past c6 the 5 weapons are one of the few ways to vertically invest in parties with 4 stars who cant get extra constellations
5 star weapons are usually a hit or miss even the banners are scary cause you may get the weapon you don't want twice. let's not forget energy reqs with some of the units in this game when you consider the like i don't have Aqua but if i did i'm not giving it to my yelan since i'm scared if i can't get her burst back on time and if i have a 5 star weapon i'd rather use Elegy.
i only pull for 5* weapons ONLY when: 1. there are TWO useful for my account 5* weapons. if there's only one, i'm not gonna pull for this 2. there are weapons for characters i often use in abyss or universal weapons that are gonna be good for many characters (raiden's weapon for example)
For someone who lost to Homa 2 f*cking years already. I'm gonna pull for Neuv's weapon as it also comes with Kazuha's weapon. I'll trick HoYo that I want Neuv's weapon so that they'll give me Kazuha's wep lol
Great video. I've always thought characters are more fun to pull for, rather than weapons. The variety in gameplay is fun and it's nice to collect new characters. I don't have a limited 5* weapon and have been able to 36* star abyss most of the time.
For someone who has never pulled on weapon banner, been playing for 2 years now and have been clearing abyss 36* for so long, this is my view on this topic - I never pulled on weapon banner for 2 main reasons - 1) The game gives only so much primos per patch, plus getting the weapon u want can even take upto 210-220 fates, which is a lot for me to save for one weapon, which I could spend on 2-3 characters at worst of lucks... 2) I can peacefully clear abyss with time to spare with 4*star, some of which are not even R5 yet..... What's the point of spending 200 fates, just to clear the abyss, maybe 5-6 seconds faster? For a 5* weapon user, they might clear it stuff in 1-2 rotations, i do it in 2-3 rotations... We both clear the same abyss.... I love playing multiple teams, trying new stuff with multiple characters, for example, I don't have or want Xiao, still pulled for Xianyun, i want to try Diluc, I love Gaming's playstyle, i wanna try that, Raiden plunges? Alhaitham? Its a game to have fun right? Getting more characters to make some of my characters work, like Shenhe for my Ayaka, Ganyu or Yae or Arlecchino to try overloaded, I don't mind building new characters for that only takes one week or two of farming materials.... artifacts can be reused most of the time on multiple characters (+ 2 pc exist ), so - If someone gives me 200 wishes to spend on, rather than wasting them for one weapon, which maybe a 10-20% increase in dmg, I could just get 2 different characters who i can try different teams and reactions and have fun with! Yep, Farming is tough, but we all do it anyways, there is no need to have 250 CD on every dps in order to clear the abyss.... Even 150-180 is more than enough Also,the only reason I would ever pull a 5* weapon is when the game forces me to do that, like them saying, "U must have a 5* weapon to enter this domain, playing which u can get 1000+ primos or something", it may happen, maybe by implementing some new gamemode or even harder content, although very unlikely 😅 Drip is true, but that's not a huge concern for me though ( Too long i know, but i had so much to say too, i also don't expect anyone would read and reply to this either 😅 )
Still, the real reason for me is 2), even if Signas would take 50 pulls to get, there is no real point to spend it on them, Genshin always pushed itself as a casual immersive adventure and even Abyss, which is literally only a DPS checker is not that hard and can be beaten with 3* weapons, the problem is Artifacts more, rather than weapon's "Stars", and even then, simply just learning mechanics of the game makes Abyss 12 9* not that hard with medium quality Stat Artifacts, so simply there is no real reason to waste a single wish on 5* weapons in Genshin, only if for "Fashion" for character player "simps" and this is a good thing, cos player can simply focus on pulling characters even if he is fully F2P and just ignore Weapon's banner and save for other characters.

A 5* weapon on childe is a huge increase, just looking at the calcs already gives a very misguided idea of how be performs so just saying he has a "low" dmg contribution because his on paper dmg is low isnt really accurate.
@@qwertysysysyysysysyzz Factually incorrect, even if you took the numbers he provided at face value, 40% of the entire team dps is not "whatever", the thing is, in practice childe will do close to 60% once you factor in hp thresholds, his frontloaded nature obviously results in poor on paper performance, so no, calcs do not prove correctly, a 5* weapon for childe is massive, and basically a requirement for the team to actually be competitive.
@@fzhs7030 if his dmg actually mattered play him without xiangling and see the difference, xiangling is the dmg dealer u can play childe on lv 1 talents and artifacts and xiangling would still clear
The differenve can be higher than numbers show. In practice there are break points and team rotations. Often you can defeat an enemy in either one rotation or in two rotations. A speciffic weapon can make that difference. This means sometimes you are two times faster with BIS and that is 100% team damage increase.
Yes but breakpoints are more of a speedrun thing. I agree that at high invest the smallest things can make a significant difference but this was more of a general view video
Crit weapons, specially the 44cv ones make artifact farming extremely easier tho. Unless you are a very old player or dump all your resin on artifacts (thus building less characters) it’s unlikely that they can be built in a comparable way, Yelan and Furina are good examples, in paper the signature weapon is not that big of a deal but if you get the signature weapon the good rolls on artifacts are now hp, er and crit instead of only crit. The whole concept of comparing weapons asumes that you will have the resin, time and interest to dump it all into 40 CV pieces, making some of the weapons that cover the cv need less desirable by comparison
5-star weapons usually make builds easier because it's usually fewer substats you have to farm for. Less resin spent in domains. PJC made building Furina easy because I didn't need to look for Crit Rate substats that much.
@@NonMeta_ While that aspect is true, that doesn't necessarily mean HER weapon is worth pulling for. You can get a crit stat from other weapons as well. Like, say, the Jade Cutter, a much less niche weapon. But, well, that only matters if you move weapons around. If you don't, then the most important thing is that the other weapon on the banner is also one you want.
Yeah, not necessarily a signature but i mentioned the ones that have 88% crit dmg cuz that’s a lot of CV. The resin required to get a good build feels like a lot less compared to an attack weapon for example. I see value in signature weapons cuz it means I can spend my resin in something else and be happy with 30-40 cv pieces with other useful stats instead of exponentially increasing the time I need for a strong build looking for a 40+ cv.
THIS. And there is much more to consider. Value of weapons is about builds and account. NOT about DPS calculations, whole approach in the video is missed and terribly misleading. I am amazed, so amazed that the weapon banner is somehow worse then it was 3 years ago. How is it that we still after 3 years only have one weapon banner and many weapons are just diluted on the standard banner. Why don't they run three back to back weapon banners with 6 different five star weapons and 3 different 4 star pools at once or something? Why is it the exact same compared to launch besides the Fate Epitome feature. or better yet, let us put a focus on the standard banner that if a weapon drops it drops the weapon you want there. I remember at launch all the weapons were pretty much good for all the characters. You got a Skyward blade/wolf blade? Congrats ALL your Claymore wielders got their Bis/2nd bis. Now you get one of these focus's and congrats, you might have some use maybe on the character its made for even though some older weapons are better for the character its made for. I quit this game for awhile before coming back on a new account. The pool is so bloated and the game has just had way to many unsustainable FOMO banners. A gacha game really can't live on FOMO forever. The Revenue this game used to bring in has plummeted and its the devs own fault for not doing anything about the many issues the game has. Why are four stars now rarer then five stars? If you want to focus on some of them you have to wait 8+months for it to be featured to be able to get dupes?...
I'm thankful for this insight, because I since I did finally get Raiden, I did also get very lucky with minimal pulls and got her polearm, since I'd like to use her as both a main and sub DPS as I see fit, and since I plan on using her so much, I wanted her to look good. I really don't like The Catch tbh, but I don't mind using it on someone else. And when I got Nahida this banner, I considered going for her weapon, but I opted to try for bird mom instead. I don't think I'll get her, but now I don't feel second thoughts on not going for Nahida's weapon. I only have three 5* weapons. Raiden's, Wolf's Gravestone, and the Sacred Winds book. I have a pretty nice selection of 4* and even 3* weapons to go with, so it's really fine.
Venti's weapon is often considered to be the single most broken weapon it the game. At R5 it's like an additional Bennett that buffs the whole team from just a single weapon which is totally ridiculous. It even gives high amount of ER to make sure its ability is fired every rotation, although it limits the rotation length to be at least 20 seconds.
THIS IS SO GOOD!!! And answers perfectly the issue of building a character to their optimum vs a team to their optimum - but with actual numbers I love that some 3*s and 4*s are so good they are close enough to 5* not to really need them - in that sense I appreciate this aspect of how they balance the game
I would go for these weapons if the weapons aren't shared in a banner. Starting 1.4, Hsr has already ran separate lightcone banners with Topaz and Seele. This made me feel more confident on going for the sig lightcones I want since I don't have to worry about winning 50/50 after winning 75/25. There is no reason that Genshin's weapon banner remains shared for years. Even as a welkin/bp buyer, I would still not go for the weapon banners. Not feeling confident in getting the 5* star weapon I want because there's a chance that I can lose the 50/50 once or worst, twice...after winning the 75/25...
Yeah pretty agreeable there's not a way to prevent baits because a lot of people think cons and weapons do a lot for you problem starts when our only content that remotely requires these investments are only floor 12. Floor 12 has been the only combat endgame since 1.0 . Only thing changed is DPS checks for 36*. Let that sink in the game is close to 4 years old almost
What's the point of scamming yourself with weapon banners if the only endgame content can be somewhat easily cleared by 4 star characters with 4 star weapons
I think what’s missing from this analysis is that certain 5* weapons are more versatile than others, so they can upgrade more characters. Aqua for example isn’t the biggest increase for Yelan since she’s a subdps and you can run Favonius. But its value lies more in that it’s good enough that any bow user can make use of it
Five star weapons for DPS or subdps characters have the sole purpose of turning your build easier, since most of them will have crit dmg or rate as the substat and the passive normally contains bonus for the stat that character scales with (so it will give bonus HP, ATK , EM or even energy). So it really helps that you don’t have to spend months of your life farming to achieve 200% crit damage with 70% crit rate for example, which is what most people consider the ideal. But yeah, for characters that don’t deal damage I guess they are pretty useless. Like, I have Baizhu’s signature just because he is my favorite character but I know it makes 0 difference lol I wouldn’t recommend getting the signature just in 2 occasions, one if that character is a complete support without any type of damage dealing (so mostly Venti, Kokomi, Zhongli, Baizhu, Shenhe, Kazuha), the second is if you already have a 5 star weapon or a 4 star bis for that character. For example, if you have The Catch for your Raiden there’s absolutely no reason to pull for Engulfing Lightning And Albedo… poor guy doesn’t benefit from any five star weapon, so definitely don’t put a five star weapon on Him lol
For me the main reason i pull for 5* weapons is to make building a character easier, that's why almoust all of my 5* weapons are the crit rate/crit damage weapons that are more universaly good. I also generally only pull on weapon banners where both 5* weapons are actually good/usefull for me.
Best advice anyone has ever given me was to never wish on the weapon banners because they are such a scam. If you really like the character and want to simp for them, pulling for weapons is never recommended...unless there are favonius weapons

Well… Light of Foliar Incision was absolutely necessary to get for that visually pleasing double wielding experience 😁 My Mistsplitter and Freedom Sworn worked perfectly well on him but they didn’t match Alhaitham’s second dagger at all. This was clearly not a well researched numbers argument but I stand behind my decision 😅
Some of the weapons actually carry your characters because of how shitty, pathetic and garbage the artifact system is. Relying on free to play weapons or gacha weapons make some characters with no crit ascension have garbage ratios or pretty low base stats, meanwhile you slap a 5 star and makes your awkward 70/110 into 70- 190. My best pyro goblet has 18 CV Goblet which is not carried by my other shit tier artifacts, but by my crit weapons. The Harbinger of dawn R5 sample is only useful if you dont get below that specific hp threshold, there might be a 13% difference in strength, but thats in very situational case by case basis where you actually have decent enough cvs on your pieces. Furina teams and very aggressive enemies can make the weapon useless and just overall a bad weapon. The amount of investments, relative stats and team composition also matters during these discussions. Because some guides are way too generous giving average high roll cvs, making some crit weapons look bad in comparison.

Amazing video sir. I used to think only generalist 5* weapons were worth it to pull (my only limited one being mistsplitter), but now I realise I rarely equip it outside of ayaka teams anymore because the moderate TEAM DAMAGE (thanks again for your videos making me learn to take into account this concept btw) increase overall is overshadowed by other 4* choices QOL bonuses like fav sword ER generation.
A point I would like to share is that if 5* weapons were the only way to fix problems with certain characters kits there may probably be a greater incentive to pull on the dreadful weapon banner but not only are Cons as you stated available, there are new characters that can do the same while also opening new gameplay mechanics and teams comps when you pull them. A recent personal example is my C0R0 hu tao, which was benched since ver 3 is now baller with furina giving her such a huge boost to the point of Fjords being only a bit weaker choice than her sig and xianyun changing the annoying jump cancel to a total dps increase making her c1 obsolete.
3:10 but that is the precise reason why I consider these characters to be overrated in the first place. They ultra charge one stat needlessly. When you could simply get the weapon and use another character with a more specific buff for same results. Without having to enslave your team to circle impact. Theorycrafters greatly underrate how bad it is to be forced to remain inside Bennett's burst. Not everyone enjoys being forced to bring shielders who contribute to nothing but stagger resistance. But has strict cooldowns and downtimes. I absolutely hate having to use Zhongli as a shielder, because his tower has its own duration and cool down, and it takes forever to fully cast compared to just using the skill. Geo would've been in a way better place if shielder characters didn't exist, or if they were made to buff shields created by Geo instead of having their own and making an entire element irrelevant.
I pulled on engulfing Lightning because I like the weapon's design and also because I didn't want take my "The Catch" off Xiangling, my Raiden deserves better
I pull when I want the drip for my mains. Xiao, Hu Tao, and Alhaitham all look amazing with their signatures. Saving for Furina C6, so I'll get her signature after as it'd be an upgrade to Festering at that point.
I feel weapons are mostly for aesthetics. Do I REALLY like char X? Q1) Do their early cons change playstyle? Yes->cons. No->weapon Q2) Do I have any good/compatible weapons for them (a few times in the past, I didn't)? Yes-> {Q2.1) Can I get future characters (potentially the very next patch)? Yes->Weap. No->Skip the weapon} No->Go for weap. That's my thought process at least
The reason I pull for 5 star weapons is when They are mostly universal to be used by a lot of characters, and specially because they make easier to built characters (specially whit my luck in crit rolls😢)
I pulled for weapons if both were good like the legendary Elegy + Homa weapon banner. I do not recommend doing this in your first year of playing the game where having a variety of characters is far far more important than weapons.
wanderer can now use flowing purity in a freeze team with furina so i'd say he can get away with a 4 star weapon neuvilette R1 and his constellations pretty much give the same damage increase/same stats so you can get away with proto amber assuming both use furina personally i think navia xiao and itto are the only ones who can benefit greatly from getting their R1 and one of them is a standard weapon you might have

I remember my horribly built Hu Tao doing like 12k charged attacks, i got Homa and she instantly started doing 20k charged attacks, now she does 65k putting her just behind my Alhaitham and his signature at 70k, however Hu Tao has had about a month if investment over Alhaitham's 2 weeks so Alhaitham only has 180 crit danage
The practical reason was spot on. In my experience, even using R1 4* like Deathmatch and dragonsbane are, at average, 5s slower than using bis for some of my main dps like Xiao, Cyno and Hutao. Two of the Biggest reason to avoid weapon banner imo 1. because there's zero content released in this game for combat in 3 years 2. It's the SCUMMIEST, most disgusting banner I've seen among Gacha's that i've played. It doesn't make sense how they're able to split the weapon banner for HSR but not for Genshin when it's among the biggest complain in the game.
I am actually thinking of doing the same thing. I even have a tier list for the weapons I can pull for in each category, bows : Polar star or aqua simulacra or thundering pulse catalysts : don't know. most of them are too niche. Maybe I'll will use widsith or lost prayer if I get it one day. swords : mistsplitter(this weapon is such a blessing, can be used on a dps, can be used on bennett.) polearms : staff of homa or staff of scarlet sands (primodial works too I guess) claymores : redhorn or wolf's gravestone(not crit but my god this thing gives so much attack)

So Wriothesley’s best team being reverse melt (with Bennett, Nahida and Thoma), his signature is calc’ed to be 30% better than Lost Prayer. It depends on how much of a hypercarry role you will giving to your main DPS in order to justify the weapon investment. Weapons like EL on Raider are not a bad investment, they improve team damage by indirectly lowering teammate ER requirement allowing offensive stats to be more. It is not as easy a choice for supports compared to main DPs units.
@@TheGenshinScientist I meant for his personal damage, other than perhaps his hypercarry team with Shenhe, Furina and Bennett. The Bennet/XL core will usually give more team damage which is when as you said a signature weapon on Wrio is less useful. The Pyro application is more consistent in the Nahida Thoma team because of Burning aura which stays consistent with long off field Pyro from Thoma. It is also more synergistic of a team because Thoma at C6 buffs Wrio NA and protects him from burning with a effective shield against pyro and Nahida gives EM.

One thing ppl never talk about when they bring up HSR is that in HSR you pretty much can't go without a weapon on your brand new 5 star that you just got, otherwise they'll be way way worse than without. While in genshin so many characters, even hypercarries have some f2p weapons that are not that much worse than their own signature. Also wanna talk about power creep? People compare hsr to Genshin like it's 2 exactly the same games. They gave away Dr ratio who's actually a good 5 star. The thing ppl should complain is not how many free pulls they're getting but about all the QoL things that have been added to hsr long time ago and nowhere to be seen in genshin.

I would argue Elegy on Yelan is not "low value" nor is Key on Furina. I personally think Homa is still worth it considering there is no external HP% buffs in the game unless you whale for C4 Yelan.
But 5* weapons impact prestige status highly, while signature weapon increase aesthetic stats by 50~100%, depending on what player investing for, their account might have higher value on the market also their social status improve accordingly with how much drip their characters have
I didn't really understand your reasoning for Itto. Aside from that, even in "hyper carries" I'm only comfortable to go for 5-star weapons if the dps increase over my available options is above 30% - that's why my Alhaitham still has HoD and my Neuvillette is going to keep the Sac Jade. The only weapons I wished for were Redhorn for Itto and Mistsplitter for Kaeya :)
I'm going to question whether or not the sub-DPS weapons are (not) worth it. I've only ever pulled for two signatures -- Homa and Aqua. Hu Tao might deal more damage in the teams she's part of, but Yelan is in my party FAR more frequently. She finds her way into basically everything for me. Thus, if you wiped those weapons away and then offered me one free five-star for any character, I'd probably take Aqua again. And this is despite the fact that I got Elegy off the Homa banner.
A single copy of a five star weapon is usually a marginal to minimal improvement in damage output. +10% is marginal, +20% is the minimum you need to feel anything. But at max refinement any of the decent ones are like a +50% improvement over what's on offer from the four star menu. I definitely think they're a scam, but more from how much more goes into making a character than a weapon skin with some stats attached. (The numbers-go-up aspect of them disgusts me personally: why spend currency on making the game *less* fun?) The biggest ripoff is that by putting weapons into the gacha, they've taken away something we could have been working toward. Endgame content that involved slowly grinding for cool weapons... In a perfect utopian world it'd be a character skin gacha with a separate currency..
As a HSR Player. 4 Star/Some 4 star forgotten Haul and "5 Star Sim uni shop weapons" aren't that much lower then the 5 star signatures. Other then Jing Yuan's Before Dawn, on average the Best S5 4 star or Herta shop LC is about 80-85% of a Signature LC. The thing is about HSR though is the Lightcones of the Characters running (One inital and one Rerun) are separated and the pity is 70 instead of 80 and it is 75/25 instead of 240 pity fate system that's 33/67. Most Signature LCs aren't worth it to your average F2P player/Light Spender especially if one goes to 80/90 pity/loses their 50/50s, but the LC banner is WAY better in Hsr then Genshin Impact.
Have to disagree on Navia, her weapon is a huge gamechanger for her, the passive fits her well and the crit rate value is nuts since she needs to crit every shot and she doesn't naturally scale with rate so getting it on subs only is absolutely close to impossible, forcing her to wear rate crown which significantly lowers her crit damage. In a world every artifact has 5 rolls into crit, having 14% rate average on each to achieve 70%, yes her weapon might be disposable and WGS or any other will do, but in real life getting those kind of artifacts on set are something nobody will achieve, or at least not until servers close.
Yes but actually no . Old players can clear abyss faster because they have high cons on old characters like Xq Xling Fishel Bennet . For my example I had Yelan and Furina before Xq . I have Ayaka Misspliter Shenshe Kazuha Ganyu And my Xling is c3 . And i have C2 raiden and my fishel is c1 . I am not ftp but in one year they were never on those banners that i wished .
If you have good artifacts, then 5* weapons don’t matter much, but if you are still building characters and teams, a 5* weapon helps push past certain damage thresholds where you might be able to clear a chamber without an additional rotation. For people struggling to get 36*, this is a bug deal. Basically, the longer you have played Genshin, the less valuable 5* weapons are. But newer players also don’t have the extra rolls to throw around, so it’s up to the individual on how much they want to invest on powering up a specific character versus building more team variety.
Not quite but I do understand where you're going for here. Some signiture weapons has its own passive that could somewhat elevate the troubles on the artifact side. Like ER regeneration from Xianyun's sig for example, so that you don't need to build too much ER and use those rolls on certain stats that's needed. Or The Key for Nilou's HP + EM will help you greatly on the artifact side.
Aesthetic is the goal. When I aim to get a character I hoard primos. If I have some left over I try to get their weapon. It’s worked out well, though for some reasons I keep losing pulls for Ayakas weapon 😡
I sometimes do a 10 pull on the weapon banner for the 4* weapons. It's hard to get the favonius and sacrificial weapons otherwise. When I was close to full pity for a 5*, I pulled on the Ayato/Cyno weapon banner since both are useful on a lot of characters and ended up with Cyno's weapon. I don't have Cyno or Ayato but I'm able to put the spear on my Raiden or Xiangling, and it is definitely noticeable! I don't have the catch because I hate fishing. I think as long as you're looking for general weapons and don't care what you get, the weapon banner is fine. It's still dreadful odds and definitely would not try to get a signature for a specific character. It's nuts to me that you can even get a standard banner 5* weapon from the weapon banner for your pity.
Raiden’s signature is really cool since it lets you change your build, but at the same time, she can deal more damage on a hyperbloom team with a 4 star ;-;

Counterpoint, some characters should ALWAYS have their signature weapon ,personal damage and damage contribution aren't everything. Characters like Raiden for example literally have only two F2P alternatives that are worth using, and those alternatives are highly disputed between many polearm characters. Therefore Raiden is better served with her own Signature weapon.
Because Raiden is more than just generating energy for your team and she'll have around or more than 250% ER in every build.
So using Fav on her is an absolute waste, when you could give it to your Shenhe, or Yaoyao

There's IMO 4 scenarios when pulling a 5 star weapon is worth it.
1. It's a very good generalist option for multiple characters you like.
2. It's a very good support weapon (like crane's echoing call, Nilou signature, Elegy)
3. Very good weapon for characters that do most of the team's damage output, like Scara or Neuvillette.
4. It's for a character you really like, so you just want to get the best for them.
I think Crane in this case it's more specific for Xianyun teams specifically since it's pretty difficult to really use it on any other character. In comparison Elegy or Key are still good in other characters so they also fall in the 1st category but I agree with your takes nonetheless.

I think there's a 5th one as well, which is basically for Xinyan... it fixes a fundamental flaw with the character's kit. Admittedly, that kind of falls into category 4, but I do think it makes Redhorn a particularly interesting weapon. It is strong for Itto, fixes Xinyan up to be a proper 4 star DPS, and is also great for Noelle.
@@Axterix13 a fellow Xinyan main I see, very based. Also have Redhorn for her, but serpent spine r5 is most of the times just slightly behind it (exept for plunges) if you can maintain the stacks. Although Redhorn also allows you to do Def sands at c6, which is a very small damage loss but big survivability increase

Another thing I wanted to add regarding the 5 star weapons is how often they arent the best options just based on what artifacts you have available. I have SoH for HuTao but rarely use it on her because I have yet to roll a decent crit rate circlet. So the RNG of artifact farming can essentially stop a character from properly maximizing the increase their signature weapon offers because of overall stat balance.
IMO vertical investment priority should generally focus on teamwide significant damage buffs first- things like Furina C1/C2, Nahida C2, etc.,. as their contribution to team dps is a consistent percent rather than dependent on damage distribution. Since no character does 100% of the team's damage, basically every personal damage increase gets diluted, and this is obviously a lot more apparent with most mixed distribution teams.

True. That's the logical approach and something I keep in mind
But you also gotta consider that a lot of the times the kinds of people who pull for signatures aren't necessarily people who are trying to min/max everything. A lot of the times people will put a signature just because they really like that character or they want that character specifically to do more damage. So in that sense, the actual team DPS impact isn't as important. Since teams can already clear Abyss at C0R0, people really just want their favorite unit to do more personal damage
One thing worth noting about the Redhorn... it is good for Itto, but it also is great for Noelle and Xinyan. The latter especially. So it is a five star weapon... that also essentially gives you a new four star to play.
That said, the biggest hindrance to five star weapons is the weapon banner system. It is just so full of fail, with two featured weapons, the five four star ones, the pain of getting refines for the weapon banner only four star ones, and so n. It, I'd say, is probably number 3 on my list of things Genshin needs to address. #1 being lack of an endgame/stuff to do when we have more time to play and #2 the amount of artifact RNG.
True. But why only Noelle and Xinyan? It's simply great claymore in general, for Diluc or Beidou as well. It's 5* crit weapon, so of course it's amazing. And yes, it's a great point that it 'gives you a new four star to play'. But again, it's not a specific case here. It's general value of good 5* weapons. They make weak characters relevant, your good characters - great, working well with your best characters, etc, they are easy fix for your builds, save you months of artifact farming and your mental health, they open hypercarry playstyle, cause you simply NEED a 5* weapon here to be competitive with other teams... Yup. And this video is terribly misleading, as it usually is with theorycrafters hyperfixated on DPS calculations that have little to do with reality. 5* weapons are totally worth it and underrated.

valid arguments but fashion impact, also personally i rather get weapons over constellations even if constellations give better returns since most of them dont change character playstyle just like weapons but weapons can be transfered and in someway change the way u build characters via stat allocation

Some cons do change character playstyle though and the team building as well. Hu tao c1 for example, neuvilette c1 allows you to not run a shielding character making his gameplay very smooth and comfy, wriothesley c1 fixes all his problems etc. Whereas weapons are just bigger numbers. Transferrable sure but genshin is already way too easy at this point. Especially with furina bloating everyone's numbers. Using Furina c2 is like giving everyone on the team a 5* weapon lol.

@@YungXin C2 furina allows anyone to be a hypercarry since she is the best damage buffer and is a staple in any hypercarry teams including dori without any 5* weapon. 5* weapons is also pretty restrictive actually since there are 5 different weapon types. If you only have homa for example, you can't make dori hypercarry. You would have to wish for 5 different weapon types, which may require you to wish 1000+ times compared to furina c2.
And not to mention, some weapons just doesn't fit certain characters because some characters gain crit rate ascension and you can't give them jade cutter coz you will have too much crit rate. Some characters also have different playstyles that doesn't fit certain weapons, lyney's sig weapons buffs ca which is not compatible with yoimiya's playstyle. You can still use it but the weapon's potential will be wasted. Furina doesn't have any of this restriction.

i personally, only pull for weapons for characters I really like and want them to do more dmg, more often than not, their sig weapons look really good on them which is something I favour as well
this is the exact reason why in hsr I always try to use the LC on a char with their face on it even if its a worse option for them unless I literally have no choice and the LC with their face on it is just a plain bad option
For me it's all about the crit on 5 star weapons. It makes it significantly easier to build characters when I have a crit weapon. The 4 star weapons with crit don't seem nearly as good except maybe serpent spine but that weapon also has an annoying effect if not run with Zhongli/strong shielder.
Especially for catalysts when even the 4 stars are things like widsith with 1 random buff active 1/3 of the time, which worsens if the character doesn’t need one of the passive buffs. If I get yae, kagura’s is defo on my radar, even if it’s on a future rerun.
As someone who is sick of building characters and finds weapons easier to farm for, I’m entering a phase where I’m happier to pull for cons or weapons to improve my existing characters, but on the occasional new character I do want to get or for characters I want to rebuild when a new artifice set releases, weapons definitely appeal for their ease of building.
Think nilou for the almost year in which key had the best HP scaling by miles - probably the best weapon I ever pulled and I still don’t regret saving for it alongside her first banner (although I would’ve picked nahida over it if I didn’t save enough for both)
I don't have a single signature weapon in my account, for me it makes the game more fun using only "free to play" weapons since the end game is relatively not that hard especially if you're a veteran player. Though i do understand people pulling for the signature weapon just for the aesthetics, same reason why people buy the skins 😂
Spiral Abyss really hard for me, my damage really low, I just can barely got 26 star, and last Abyss I got 27 stars, even I already played this game about 3 months now, Idk why my damage is really low

This tbh, I've never pulled on a weapon banner, have no fav swords and only one (garbage) 5 star weapon, I'm still 36 starring and have some primos to spare. F2P btw.
Artifacts make the biggest difference. You can clear with 36 stars with godlike arts and 3star weapons.
There’s so much room for improvement on banners too .. instead of just giving us 3 star weapons.. they could give us mora exp books weapon ascension material… there’s so much they can do which they will never do sadly .. they could even have a 4 star fragile resin card which u get on every 10 pull or 20 pull

if they give you a green book instead of 3 star weapon it dont do much. if they increase and we get purple books that are 60 extra purple books per month for F2p. 60 purple books are 200 resin - mostly worthless.
it is a bad suggestion cos it will destroy game economy balance. they will reduce the books from events/chests/ley lines to compensate cos the economy works if you lose resources and play/pay to get them

Tbh I just want 5 star weapons for characters whose best alternative is a 3 star. I love Tighnari, it just feels disrespectful to give him Slingshot, or Alhaitham Harbinger... even if it's not their sig they deserve something fancier, haha
Variety is the spice of life. I think there's no reason to pull for a weapon before you feel like you have enough characters to experiment with. My Main DPS units right now are Xiao, Diluc, Eula, Childe, Cyno, Neuvillette and Navia, all Floor 12 ready. After I get Kazuha, I may consider sniping Neuvi's signature, but he's hitting 45-50k per hit with Amber anyway, could just save for Natlan.
Early weapon banner pulls are not just for the signature but also the 4*. New players don't have access to many event weapons and an abundance of favonious but usually just a couple bells and flutes. The game doesn't shower you in billets either.

@@Larkian Not enough. I am a fairly new player and completed all of them. enough to r5 the inazuma sword and r1 bennetts sword but now i am kinda out of them. And not all craftable weapons are good. Craftable bows are just sad.

Really liked the way you systematically explained this topic. Hadn’t thought about a weapon’s value as in its contribution to the entire team’s damage. What would have been nice to mention is the the fact that a signature can make a character easier to build, mainly because of crit stats and sometime high atk or hp scaling to reach certain thresholds. Especially for newer players like me, who don’t have that good relics and struggle to maintain a good crit ratio without such a weapon. Yes there are some crit 4 stars like the BP weapons, but they’re not free either.

I pulled on 5* weapon banner when I needed the 4 and 5 star weapons so I can build more characters. I have every 4* and I enjoy them very much. I like swapping teams a lot so they are all decently built with their own builds. As such, I have very random smattering of 5* weapons. I haven’t pulled in a while because the event weapons have held me over.
I'd played for a year and a half and still didn't have a Favonius Sword, so you'd better believe I pulled a bunch on the last weapon banner.
Raiden and Yoimiya got their signatures, but more importantly I have an r5 and r3 Fav sword now xD

In practice the frontload alone makes having a limited 5* weapon a huge increase over the best 4* (vhunt) so in Childe's case this wasn't really accurate.
I have to laugh b/c pretty much any video about Genshin, in almost any subject, is a video about Furina now. I'm not mad. It's just pretty amazing how important of a character she is.
She is universal buffer/subdd that doesn't force you to play circle impact. Even old characters as Eula, Xiao or Noelle became much more effective and comfortable to play in abyss conditions having Furina in team.
Weapons are transferable, that's enough to say that weapons are an over time more worthy investment than a character's constellation or even a character.
Though long term weapons are also susceptible to more competition as well. That said, characters open up new gameplay, which weapons rarely ever do, meaning that characters are still probably king, but weapons might be better long term unless you plan to play the same team for years. However, that seems just miserable, unless it's an infusion or otherwise gameplay changing low con upgrade.
I just know that the increase in damage from Oathsworn eye to Xianyun's signature was direct and insane. It was like 35% or so on the plunges.
weapons, unlike new characters, don't require artifacts. that's enough for me to consider hyperinvesting in favs. Going all in on 2 teams, and when they're fully decked out I will consider making a 3rd. I"m absolutely all good with rocking the same few teams, due to how much I like certain characters vs the others.
The best vertical investment that anyone can make for their account rn is not 5 star weapons but C2 Furina

I used to think that but now i pulled nahida c2 as a welkin spender and i got to say, i can use soo many more characters in abyss now i use 4 stars as my main carries now if i want, c2 is a teamwide dmg increase, i can use my favs and nahidas defence shred and use many more characters, keqing,c0 raiden,even neuvilletec0r0 neuvillete is now doing increased dmg from it. Originally i didn’t even do it cause of meta but i wanted to show how much i like nahida, this was just something i noticed.

Do the same weapon ranking for 4 stars, past c6 the 5 weapons are one of the few ways to vertically invest in parties with 4 stars who cant get extra constellations
5 star weapons are usually a hit or miss even the banners are scary cause you may get the weapon you don't want twice. let's not forget energy reqs with some of the units in this game when you consider the like i don't have Aqua but if i did i'm not giving it to my yelan since i'm scared if i can't get her burst back on time and if i have a 5 star weapon i'd rather use Elegy.
I definitely think general team support weapons like elegy deserve to be higher on this list

i only pull for 5* weapons ONLY when:
1. there are TWO useful for my account 5* weapons. if there's only one, i'm not gonna pull for this
2. there are weapons for characters i often use in abyss or universal weapons that are gonna be good for many characters (raiden's weapon for example)

Great video. I've always thought characters are more fun to pull for, rather than weapons. The variety in gameplay is fun and it's nice to collect new characters. I don't have a limited 5* weapon and have been able to 36* star abyss most of the time.
For someone who has never pulled on weapon banner, been playing for 2 years now and have been clearing abyss 36* for so long, this is my view on this topic -
I never pulled on weapon banner for 2 main reasons -
1) The game gives only so much primos per patch, plus getting the weapon u want can even take upto 210-220 fates, which is a lot for me to save for one weapon, which I could spend on 2-3 characters at worst of lucks...
2) I can peacefully clear abyss with time to spare with 4*star, some of which are not even R5 yet..... What's the point of spending 200 fates, just to clear the abyss, maybe 5-6 seconds faster? For a 5* weapon user, they might clear it stuff in 1-2 rotations, i do it in 2-3 rotations... We both clear the same abyss....
I love playing multiple teams, trying new stuff with multiple characters, for example, I don't have or want Xiao, still pulled for Xianyun, i want to try Diluc, I love Gaming's playstyle, i wanna try that, Raiden plunges? Alhaitham? Its a game to have fun right?
Getting more characters to make some of my characters work, like Shenhe for my Ayaka, Ganyu or Yae or Arlecchino to try overloaded, I don't mind building new characters for that only takes one week or two of farming materials.... artifacts can be reused most of the time on multiple characters (+ 2 pc exist ), so -
If someone gives me 200 wishes to spend on, rather than wasting them for one weapon, which maybe a 10-20% increase in dmg, I could just get 2 different characters who i can try different teams and reactions and have fun with!
Yep, Farming is tough, but we all do it anyways, there is no need to have 250 CD on every dps in order to clear the abyss.... Even 150-180 is more than enough
Also,the only reason I would ever pull a 5* weapon is when the game forces me to do that, like them saying, "U must have a 5* weapon to enter this domain, playing which u can get 1000+ primos or something", it may happen, maybe by implementing some new gamemode or even harder content, although very unlikely 😅

Still, the real reason for me is 2), even if Signas would take 50 pulls to get, there is no real point to spend it on them, Genshin always pushed itself as a casual immersive adventure and even Abyss, which is literally only a DPS checker is not that hard and can be beaten with 3* weapons, the problem is Artifacts more, rather than weapon's "Stars", and even then, simply just learning mechanics of the game makes Abyss 12 9* not that hard with medium quality Stat Artifacts, so simply there is no real reason to waste a single wish on 5* weapons in Genshin, only if for "Fashion" for character player "simps" and this is a good thing, cos player can simply focus on pulling characters even if he is fully F2P and just ignore Weapon's banner and save for other characters.

A 5* weapon on childe is a huge increase, just looking at the calcs already gives a very misguided idea of how be performs so just saying he has a "low" dmg contribution because his on paper dmg is low isnt really accurate.

@@qwertysysysyysysysyzz Factually incorrect, even if you took the numbers he provided at face value, 40% of the entire team dps is not "whatever", the thing is, in practice childe will do close to 60% once you factor in hp thresholds, his frontloaded nature obviously results in poor on paper performance, so no, calcs do not prove correctly, a 5* weapon for childe is massive, and basically a requirement for the team to actually be competitive.

The differenve can be higher than numbers show. In practice there are break points and team rotations. Often you can defeat an enemy in either one rotation or in two rotations. A speciffic weapon can make that difference. This means sometimes you are two times faster with BIS and that is 100% team damage increase.
Yes but breakpoints are more of a speedrun thing. I agree that at high invest the smallest things can make a significant difference but this was more of a general view video
Crit weapons, specially the 44cv ones make artifact farming extremely easier tho. Unless you are a very old player or dump all your resin on artifacts (thus building less characters) it’s unlikely that they can be built in a comparable way, Yelan and Furina are good examples, in paper the signature weapon is not that big of a deal but if you get the signature weapon the good rolls on artifacts are now hp, er and crit instead of only crit.
The whole concept of comparing weapons asumes that you will have the resin, time and interest to dump it all into 40 CV pieces, making some of the weapons that cover the cv need less desirable by comparison
My artifact luck is very bad (ar60 acc)and the crit weapon is what makes up for it ..
5-star weapons usually make builds easier because it's usually fewer substats you have to farm for. Less resin spent in domains. PJC made building Furina easy because I didn't need to look for Crit Rate substats that much.
@@NonMeta_ While that aspect is true, that doesn't necessarily mean HER weapon is worth pulling for. You can get a crit stat from other weapons as well. Like, say, the Jade Cutter, a much less niche weapon.
But, well, that only matters if you move weapons around. If you don't, then the most important thing is that the other weapon on the banner is also one you want.
Yeah, not necessarily a signature but i mentioned the ones that have 88% crit dmg cuz that’s a lot of CV. The resin required to get a good build feels like a lot less compared to an attack weapon for example.
I see value in signature weapons cuz it means I can spend my resin in something else and be happy with 30-40 cv pieces with other useful stats instead of exponentially increasing the time I need for a strong build looking for a 40+ cv.
THIS. And there is much more to consider. Value of weapons is about builds and account. NOT about DPS calculations, whole approach in the video is missed and terribly misleading. Good 5* weaspons make weak characters relevant, your good characters - great, working well with your best characters, etc, they are easy fix for your builds, save you months of artifact farming and your mental health, they open hypercarry playstyle, cause you simply NEED a 5* weapon here to be competitive with other teams. All of that means more FUN. I always see theorycrafters telling nonsense when considering value of 5* weapons. Truth is they are totally worth it and obviously more than cons. Other thing you also have to know how to use weapon banner. Here is where most players fail, fixating on signatures. While non-whales should simply accept true gacha experience - pull and be happy with what you get.
I am amazed, so amazed that the weapon banner is somehow worse then it was 3 years ago.
How is it that we still after 3 years only have one weapon banner and many weapons are just diluted on the standard banner. Why don't they run three back to back weapon banners with 6 different five star weapons and 3 different 4 star pools at once or something? Why is it the exact same compared to launch besides the Fate Epitome feature.
or better yet, let us put a focus on the standard banner that if a weapon drops it drops the weapon you want there.
I remember at launch all the weapons were pretty much good for all the characters. You got a Skyward blade/wolf blade? Congrats ALL your Claymore wielders got their Bis/2nd bis. Now you get one of these focus's and congrats, you might have some use maybe on the character its made for even though some older weapons are better for the character its made for.
I quit this game for awhile before coming back on a new account. The pool is so bloated and the game has just had way to many unsustainable FOMO banners. A gacha game really can't live on FOMO forever. The Revenue this game used to bring in has plummeted and its the devs own fault for not doing anything about the many issues the game has.
Why are four stars now rarer then five stars? If you want to focus on some of them you have to wait 8+months for it to be featured to be able to get dupes?...
I'm thankful for this insight, because I since I did finally get Raiden, I did also get very lucky with minimal pulls and got her polearm, since I'd like to use her as both a main and sub DPS as I see fit, and since I plan on using her so much, I wanted her to look good. I really don't like The Catch tbh, but I don't mind using it on someone else. And when I got Nahida this banner, I considered going for her weapon, but I opted to try for bird mom instead. I don't think I'll get her, but now I don't feel second thoughts on not going for Nahida's weapon. I only have three 5* weapons. Raiden's, Wolf's Gravestone, and the Sacred Winds book. I have a pretty nice selection of 4* and even 3* weapons to go with, so it's really fine.
Venti's weapon is often considered to be the single most broken weapon it the game. At R5 it's like an additional Bennett that buffs the whole team from just a single weapon which is totally ridiculous. It even gives high amount of ER to make sure its ability is fired every rotation, although it limits the rotation length to be at least 20 seconds.
THIS IS SO GOOD!!! And answers perfectly the issue of building a character to their optimum vs a team to their optimum - but with actual numbers
I love that some 3*s and 4*s are so good they are close enough to 5* not to really need them - in that sense I appreciate this aspect of how they balance the game
I would go for these weapons if the weapons aren't shared in a banner. Starting 1.4, Hsr has already ran separate lightcone banners with Topaz and Seele. This made me feel more confident on going for the sig lightcones I want since I don't have to worry about winning 50/50 after winning 75/25.
There is no reason that Genshin's weapon banner remains shared for years. Even as a welkin/bp buyer, I would still not go for the weapon banners. Not feeling confident in getting the 5* star weapon I want because there's a chance that I can lose the 50/50 once or worst, twice...after winning the 75/25...

Yeah pretty agreeable there's not a way to prevent baits because a lot of people think cons and weapons do a lot for you problem starts when our only content that remotely requires these investments are only floor 12. Floor 12 has been the only combat endgame since 1.0 . Only thing changed is DPS checks for 36*. Let that sink in the game is close to 4 years old almost
What's the point of scamming yourself with weapon banners if the only endgame content can be somewhat easily cleared by 4 star characters with 4 star weapons
I think what’s missing from this analysis is that certain 5* weapons are more versatile than others, so they can upgrade more characters.
Aqua for example isn’t the biggest increase for Yelan since she’s a subdps and you can run Favonius. But its value lies more in that it’s good enough that any bow user can make use of it
Five star weapons for DPS or subdps characters have the sole purpose of turning your build easier, since most of them will have crit dmg or rate as the substat and the passive normally contains bonus for the stat that character scales with (so it will give bonus HP, ATK , EM or even energy). So it really helps that you don’t have to spend months of your life farming to achieve 200% crit damage with 70% crit rate for example, which is what most people consider the ideal.
But yeah, for characters that don’t deal damage I guess they are pretty useless. Like, I have Baizhu’s signature just because he is my favorite character but I know it makes 0 difference lol
I wouldn’t recommend getting the signature just in 2 occasions, one if that character is a complete support without any type of damage dealing (so mostly Venti, Kokomi, Zhongli, Baizhu, Shenhe, Kazuha), the second is if you already have a 5 star weapon or a 4 star bis for that character. For example, if you have The Catch for your Raiden there’s absolutely no reason to pull for Engulfing Lightning
And Albedo… poor guy doesn’t benefit from any five star weapon, so definitely don’t put a five star weapon on Him lol
For me the main reason i pull for 5* weapons is to make building a character easier, that's why almoust all of my 5* weapons are the crit rate/crit damage weapons that are more universaly good.
I also generally only pull on weapon banners where both 5* weapons are actually good/usefull for me.
The reason weapons are better than cons is because a good con buffs one character, a good weapon buffs lots of characters.
Best advice anyone has ever given me was to never wish on the weapon banners because they are such a scam. If you really like the character and want to simp for them, pulling for weapons is never recommended...unless there are favonius weapons

I always was pulling Signa weapons only to make them fit character's visual style and only for characters I actively like to play with and who I "simp" (in simple words).

Well… Light of Foliar Incision was absolutely necessary to get for that visually pleasing double wielding experience 😁 My Mistsplitter and Freedom Sworn worked perfectly well on him but they didn’t match Alhaitham’s second dagger at all.
This was clearly not a well researched numbers argument but I stand behind my decision 😅
Some of the weapons actually carry your characters because of how shitty, pathetic and garbage the artifact system is. Relying on free to play weapons or gacha weapons make some characters with no crit ascension have garbage ratios or pretty low base stats, meanwhile you slap a 5 star and makes your awkward 70/110 into 70- 190. My best pyro goblet has 18 CV Goblet which is not carried by my other shit tier artifacts, but by my crit weapons. The Harbinger of dawn R5 sample is only useful if you dont get below that specific hp threshold, there might be a 13% difference in strength, but thats in very situational case by case basis where you actually have decent enough cvs on your pieces. Furina teams and very aggressive enemies can make the weapon useless and just overall a bad weapon.
The amount of investments, relative stats and team composition also matters during these discussions. Because some guides are way too generous giving average high roll cvs, making some crit weapons look bad in comparison.
My account was gonna be forever bricked were it not for Navia being an attack scaler and being able to use one of my two Unforgeds. Hopefully the next one is useable on Pyro Archon.
Amazing video sir. I used to think only generalist 5* weapons were worth it to pull (my only limited one being mistsplitter), but now I realise I rarely equip it outside of ayaka teams anymore because the moderate TEAM DAMAGE (thanks again for your videos making me learn to take into account this concept btw) increase overall is overshadowed by other 4* choices QOL bonuses like fav sword ER generation.
A point I would like to share is that if 5* weapons were the only way to fix problems with certain characters kits there may probably be a greater incentive to pull on the dreadful weapon banner but not only are Cons as you stated available, there are new characters that can do the same while also opening new gameplay mechanics and teams comps when you pull them. A recent personal example is my C0R0 hu tao, which was benched since ver 3 is now baller with furina giving her such a huge boost to the point of Fjords being only a bit weaker choice than her sig and xianyun changing the annoying jump cancel to a total dps increase making her c1 obsolete.
3:10 but that is the precise reason why I consider these characters to be overrated in the first place. They ultra charge one stat needlessly. When you could simply get the weapon and use another character with a more specific buff for same results. Without having to enslave your team to circle impact.
Theorycrafters greatly underrate how bad it is to be forced to remain inside Bennett's burst. Not everyone enjoys being forced to bring shielders who contribute to nothing but stagger resistance. But has strict cooldowns and downtimes.
I absolutely hate having to use Zhongli as a shielder, because his tower has its own duration and cool down, and it takes forever to fully cast compared to just using the skill.
Geo would've been in a way better place if shielder characters didn't exist, or if they were made to buff shields created by Geo instead of having their own and making an entire element irrelevant.
I pulled on engulfing Lightning because I like the weapon's design

Q2) Do I have any good/compatible weapons for them (a few times in the past, I didn't)? Yes-> {Q2.1) Can I get future characters (potentially the very next patch)? Yes->Weap. No->Skip the weapon} No->Go for weap.

Haven't ever wished on 5 star weapon and never will. What an absolute scam
The reason I pull for 5 star weapons is when They are mostly universal to be used by a lot of characters, and specially because they make easier to built characters (specially whit my luck in crit rolls😢)
I pulled for weapons if both were good like the legendary Elegy + Homa weapon banner. I do not recommend doing this in your first year of playing the game where having a variety of characters is far far more important than weapons.
wanderer can now use flowing purity in a freeze team with furina so i'd say he can get away with a 4 star weapon
neuvilette R1 and his constellations pretty much give the same damage increase/same stats so you can get away with proto amber assuming both use furina
personally i think navia xiao and itto are the only ones who can benefit greatly from getting their R1 and one of them is a standard weapon you might have

for other characters itto and chiori R1s are pretty good stat sticks if you want to pull on that upcoming banner its pretty good value imo and hopefully the 4 star weapons are good aswell

weapons worth pulling in my opinion: jade cutter, mistsplitter, eternal flow, aqua, homa, redhorn, scarlet sand, and beacon.
I remember my horribly built Hu Tao doing like 12k charged attacks, i got Homa and she instantly started doing 20k charged attacks, now she does 65k putting her just behind my Alhaitham and his signature at 70k, however Hu Tao has had about a month if investment over Alhaitham's 2 weeks so Alhaitham only has 180 crit danage

The practical reason was spot on. In my experience, even using R1 4* like Deathmatch and dragonsbane are, at average, 5s slower than using bis for some of my main dps like Xiao, Cyno and Hutao.
Two of the Biggest reason to avoid weapon banner imo
1. because there's zero content released in this game for combat in 3 years
2. It's the SCUMMIEST, most disgusting banner I've seen among Gacha's that i've played.
It doesn't make sense how they're able to split the weapon banner for HSR but not for Genshin when it's among the biggest complain in the game.
I’m trying to get a flexible cr and cd weapon in each weapon category, so I can have pretty good options for every dps character
I am actually thinking of doing the same thing. I even have a tier list for the weapons I can pull for in each category,
bows : Polar star or aqua simulacra or thundering pulse
catalysts : don't know. most of them are too niche. Maybe I'll will use widsith or lost prayer if I get it one day.
swords : mistsplitter(this weapon is such a blessing, can be used on a dps, can be used on bennett.)
polearms : staff of homa or staff of scarlet sands (primodial works too I guess)
claymores : redhorn or wolf's gravestone(not crit but my god this thing gives so much attack)

So Wriothesley’s best team being reverse melt (with Bennett, Nahida and Thoma), his signature is calc’ed to be 30% better than Lost Prayer. It depends on how much of a hypercarry role you will giving to your main DPS in order to justify the weapon investment.
Weapons like EL on Raider are not a bad investment, they improve team damage by indirectly lowering teammate ER requirement allowing offensive stats to be more. It is not as easy a choice for supports compared to main DPs units.
I don't believe thats his best team. To me it's Wrio Xiangling Bennett Furina. Pyro app is pretty consistent for melts there
@@TheGenshinScientist I meant for his personal damage, other than perhaps his hypercarry team with Shenhe, Furina and Bennett. The Bennet/XL core will usually give more team damage which is when as you said a signature weapon on Wrio is less useful.
The Pyro application is more consistent in the Nahida Thoma team because of Burning aura which stays consistent with long off field Pyro from Thoma. It is also more synergistic of a team because Thoma at C6 buffs Wrio NA and protects him from burning with a effective shield against pyro and Nahida gives EM.
its not about how strong they make a character, its about how good they make them look
doesn't matter too much for sub dps units when you're popping their abilities and getting off. Unless you want to stare at the character screen all day.
One thing ppl never talk about when they bring up HSR is that in HSR you pretty much can't go without a weapon on your brand new 5 star that you just got, otherwise they'll be way way worse than without. While in genshin so many characters, even hypercarries have some f2p weapons that are not that much worse than their own signature.
Also wanna talk about power creep? People compare hsr to Genshin like it's 2 exactly the same games. They gave away Dr ratio who's actually a good 5 star. The thing ppl should complain is not how many free pulls they're getting but about all the QoL things that have been added to hsr long time ago and nowhere to be seen in genshin.
But of course 90% of this game's audience are underage so they can't get their brand new waifu ot husbando or whatever other cringe word u wanna use.

Hi! I loved your video and for your "tier list" of dmg contribution and sig weapon strength, how about doing an alignment chart instead? With for example one axis being the strength of the character's weapon and the other one being the character's damage contribution!
I would argue Elegy on Yelan is not "low value" nor is Key on Furina. I personally think Homa is still worth it considering there is no external HP% buffs in the game unless you whale for C4 Yelan.
But 5* weapons impact prestige status highly, while signature weapon increase aesthetic stats by 50~100%, depending on what player investing for, their account might have higher value on the market also their social status improve accordingly with how much drip their characters have

I didn't really understand your reasoning for Itto.
Aside from that, even in "hyper carries" I'm only comfortable to go for 5-star weapons if the dps increase over my available options is above 30% - that's why my Alhaitham still has HoD and my Neuvillette is going to keep the Sac Jade.
The only weapons I wished for were Redhorn for Itto and Mistsplitter for Kaeya :)
I'm going to question whether or not the sub-DPS weapons are (not) worth it. I've only ever pulled for two signatures -- Homa and Aqua. Hu Tao might deal more damage in the teams she's part of, but Yelan is in my party FAR more frequently. She finds her way into basically everything for me. Thus, if you wiped those weapons away and then offered me one free five-star for any character, I'd probably take Aqua again. And this is despite the fact that I got Elegy off the Homa banner.

A single copy of a five star weapon is usually a marginal to minimal improvement in damage output. +10% is marginal, +20% is the minimum you need to feel anything. But at max refinement any of the decent ones are like a +50% improvement over what's on offer from the four star menu.
I definitely think they're a scam, but more from how much more goes into making a character than a weapon skin with some stats attached. (The numbers-go-up aspect of them disgusts me personally: why spend currency on making the game *less* fun?)
The biggest ripoff is that by putting weapons into the gacha, they've taken away something we could have been working toward. Endgame content that involved slowly grinding for cool weapons...
In a perfect utopian world it'd be a character skin gacha with a separate currency..
As a HSR Player. 4 Star/Some 4 star forgotten Haul and "5 Star Sim uni shop weapons" aren't that much lower then the 5 star signatures. Other then Jing Yuan's Before Dawn, on average the Best S5 4 star or Herta shop LC is about 80-85% of a Signature LC.
The thing is about HSR though is the Lightcones of the Characters running (One inital and one Rerun) are separated and the pity is 70 instead of 80 and it is 75/25 instead of 240 pity fate system that's 33/67. Most Signature LCs aren't worth it to your average F2P player/Light Spender especially if one goes to 80/90 pity/loses their 50/50s, but the LC banner is WAY better in Hsr then Genshin Impact.
Have to disagree on Navia, her weapon is a huge gamechanger for her, the passive fits her well and the crit rate value is nuts since she needs to crit every shot and she doesn't naturally scale with rate so getting it on subs only is absolutely close to impossible, forcing her to wear rate crown which significantly lowers her crit damage.
In a world every artifact has 5 rolls into crit, having 14% rate average on each to achieve 70%, yes her weapon might be disposable and WGS or any other will do, but in real life getting those kind of artifacts on set are something nobody will achieve, or at least not until servers close.

Yes but actually no . Old players can clear abyss faster because they have high cons on old characters like Xq Xling Fishel Bennet . For my example I had Yelan and Furina before Xq . I have Ayaka Misspliter Shenshe Kazuha Ganyu And my Xling is c3 . And i have C2 raiden and my fishel is c1 . I am not ftp but in one year they were never on those banners that i wished .
If you have good artifacts, then 5* weapons don’t matter much, but if you are still building characters and teams, a 5* weapon helps push past certain damage thresholds where you might be able to clear a chamber without an additional rotation. For people struggling to get 36*, this is a bug deal.
Basically, the longer you have played Genshin, the less valuable 5* weapons are. But newer players also don’t have the extra rolls to throw around, so it’s up to the individual on how much they want to invest on powering up a specific character versus building more team variety.
It's funny that the video comes out just after the reddit thread is about 5*weapons and some comments suggest pulling on it for vertical investment.

Not quite but I do understand where you're going for here. Some signiture weapons has its own passive that could somewhat elevate the troubles on the artifact side. Like ER regeneration from Xianyun's sig for example, so that you don't need to build too much ER and use those rolls on certain stats that's needed.
Or The Key for Nilou's HP + EM will help you greatly on the artifact side.
Chiori's Bis is now life changing! it beats even mistsplitter for Ayaka.
Aesthetic is the goal. When I aim to get a character I hoard primos. If I have some left over I try to get their weapon. It’s worked out well, though for some reasons I keep losing pulls for Ayakas weapon 😡
I sometimes do a 10 pull on the weapon banner for the 4* weapons. It's hard to get the favonius and sacrificial weapons otherwise. When I was close to full pity for a 5*, I pulled on the Ayato/Cyno weapon banner since both are useful on a lot of characters and ended up with Cyno's weapon. I don't have Cyno or Ayato but I'm able to put the spear on my Raiden or Xiangling, and it is definitely noticeable! I don't have the catch because I hate fishing. I think as long as you're looking for general weapons and don't care what you get, the weapon banner is fine. It's still dreadful odds and definitely would not try to get a signature for a specific character. It's nuts to me that you can even get a standard banner 5* weapon from the weapon banner for your pity.
Raiden’s signature is really cool since it lets you change your build, but at the same time, she can deal more damage on a hyperbloom team with a 4 star ;-;
