i read parachutes & a very large expanse of sea because of you!! they're my favorite ya contemporary reads of all time and i'm super excited to start anna k and yolk :))
Ah! I literally just finished reading A Very Large Expanse of Sea last night and fell in love with it!! It was such a great book, and so relatable for me as a hijab-wearing Muslim woman (who was also 16 in 2002, like Shirin) It was also my first (and definitely not my last) Tahereh Mafi book!
I just went and bought Legendborn and Bright and Pale, I watched your review after I watched the unboxing of them, and because of your reviews I am more excited to read them. Thank you so much!!
Love these recommendations and any that I haven’t read yet are for sure on my TBR! Some of my favorite YA contemporaries are The Poet X, Slay, everything by Angie Thomas, Every Last Word (has excellent OCD representation), and my all time favorite: The Sun Is Also a Star!💞
Hi. You probably won't read this but I just wanted to say that I watch this video yesterday and decided to read a very large expanse of sea and I finish it in a few hours and love it so much. Thank you for recommending such an important book. I have many books you mention on my tbr. Love your channel.
I just recently started reading Sandhya Menon and I love her books! They are so fun, with such amazing characters. I also loved Eliza and Her Monsters and The Sun is Also a Star!
Literally all of these sound right up my alley wth! I’ve only read 4 of them, but I added all the others to my list - can’t wait to read them all! Great video 💕
I thought you weren’t gonna post so I was so happy when I saw this lol (but like you posting less is absolutely fine (not that you need approval lmao) as long as you’re happy/ier)
These all sound amazing!!! Thank you for making this list! I mainly read fantasy, but have been wanting to read a different genre and now I know what books to buy.
I read A Long Way Done for the first time last month via audiobook and I immediately knew I had to get myself a physical copy. So when that arrived I read it again right away. I‘ve never read a book twice within the same month, but that book just really captured me
so many great recommendations!! I really want to read Yolk by Mary H.K. Choi, I love stories about siblings. I read Emergency Contact by her, and i didn't hate it but it definitely wasn't my favorite. I also HAVE to read some Tiffany D. Jackson this year, all of her stuff sounds amazing.
I'm not too much of a contemporary reader but The Henna Wars is a favorite! I also really enjoyed American Panda, Long Way Down and Loveboat Taipei. I really did love all of Elizabeth Acevedo's books as well
I really loved Turtles all the Way Down but I is it confirmed in the book that Aza has OCD? I found it also to be a lot of Anxiety inside of it and I really loved that it wasn’t narrowed down to one diagnosis. But maybe I don’t remember it right. :) love the video!
I think you should really read some other now! It’s a YA Contemporary that I read like a month ago and absolutely fell in love with all the characters and the story!!!
Also if you haven’t read it yet you should read Dorthy must die! It’s a fantasy series about basically what happens after Dorthy decides to come back to Oz and become a cruel dictator. Then our main character Amy (also from Kansas) end up in us and has to kill Dorthy!
I posted my videos about the YA Contemporary books that I like & love. 🤎 I read a lot of contemporary books because of BLouRay Book Club. 📖💙🤎 I have enjoyed Mary H.K. Choi's books. 👍😊
I am trying to find a book but I can't remember its name please help!!! So the book cover has 2 characters on a balcony and their backs are facing each other, the cover was bluish-purplish I think. The male character's name was Adam, he lived with his dad and brother. And female character loved to watch movies. She smoked too. She went to her neighbor's house because he had movie collection. This went on for some time before he tried to assault her. And then Adam came and beat him up real good. Yeah that's all I can remember.
*pulls up Goodreads next to this video* ready ma'am
something I always do while watching booktube/ bookstagram
Me too 😄
same ❤️🤣
As someone who adores fantasy literature and wishes to branch out into contemporary, this is the ideal video to appear on my reccomendations!
I’m the opposite! I want to dabble in the fantasy world.. but here I am watching a contemporary recommendation video 😅
@@Miranda-jb3gb 🤣

I highly recommend I'll give you the sun, an emotional YA contemporary & one of my all time faves🤧
OMG, the Nick and Norah movie is iconic, it's what drove me to the book, which is also a huge favourite of mine. I love your list!

I thought I’d love Yolk because we have similar book tastes, but I couldn’t get into it. The characters were so annoying.
