Too true. Although there is a final written episode that you can find dramatized here on YT, as a child, I knew that they never escaped. I think I heard of a comic book about the D&D kids in their 30s and 40s still stuck in the realm trying to make the best of it.
There were also a lot of poor orphans, I used to get really nervous whenever my parents went out that they would die in a car crash or something and I would become an orphan too
I LOVED this show growing up. I can't tell you how many times even decades later I randomly think about the line, "Aye yi yi, we look like . . . cartoons" and giggle to myself.
I LUV that song! I was telling a DJ friend of mine, I am surprised more radio DJs didn't use that when they played music. Kidd Video is always in my MP3 rotation.

I remember this show. It was on right after The Great Space Coaster. Now I'm going to have both those theme songs stuck in my head all day. Kids today will never know the joy of waking up way too early on Saturday morning, and channel surfing all 4 channels, watching the color bars, waiting for one of them to start its broadcasting day. I remember the first show to come on the air Saturday mornings was an old B&W Robin Hood show from the 50's.
Meanwhile, between Great Space Coaster, Kidd Video, and the hour long Kid Super Power Hour (with Shazam), my Saturday morning constantly had these second-rate rock bands singing to me when I just wanted to watch cartoons.

So true....I had to get up early to do yard work or help dad, but was lucky to always catch Kidd Video....he wanted to take a break or run to the store around that time...then when the show was over, I could either go play or he was back so I had to go help him.
Until I found the full version of the theme, I never realized Robbie Rist was main vocals on like half the song. I remember loving the show. It'd be nice to find complete episodes in decent quality someday.
The funny thing is at some point (I think maybe in the early 90s or maybe it was after the show ran the first time and became syndicated) but they had to strip out all the licensed music and replace it with horrible cheap replacements. It pretty much made the show unwatchable as it took the one thing the original show had and ruined it completely.
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Cartoons were all like that back then. There was no sense of permanence or the idea that fans would want a complete version of the shows. License the music for the duration of the network run and nothing else matters. Now fans and archivists can't really get good quality complete versions of some shows. We've learned since then, but man there are cartoons partially lost to time now.

Oh thank goodness. For decades, I have been misremembering this as a cartoon about Tears For Fears and it drove me mad that I could never find it. Weirdly, I have met a LOT of folk who vaguely remember this as a Tears For Fears cartoon that uses Everybody Wants To Rule The World as its theme song (probably due to it appearing as a musical sequence in the episode Starmaker). Now you have cleared up the fog of time and I can finally seek this out again.
Kidd Video was awesome, one of my best friends (may he rest in peace) was obsessed with it and turned me on to it. Studio band or not, they actually put out a few memorable songs. Robbie Rist is still quite the musician and voice actor. His credits are well known; He voiced Michelangelo in the TMNT movie and worked on the music for Sharknado among other things

Also there is a pretty good cover for "Where Did Our Love Go?", the lead singer had definite talent, but the industry was so damn cutthroat he didn't didn't have a way in.

When I was young, this cartoon actually inspired me to learn how to play guitar and sing at the time. I've actually found the album years ago online! Downloaded Video to Radio and put it on my iPod. One of my favorite songs of all time, I always raise the volume when it comes on.

Yeah, I grabbed them from a seller in Texas who had all 26 on VHS for sale on his site (he sold tapes of several series from his personal site) and I still have the tapes and converted them to MP4 to burn to DVD some years back.

I actually stumbled upon a digital rip of the album they put out about ten years ago. It consisted of the full (about 3 minutes) and TV edited versions (about a minute thirty) of each original song they performed - including the theme song. To this day the full versions of the theme and "Run" are still in my playlist and are listened to regularly.
Yes, the same here. It was the last cartoon that aired for the Saturday morning cartoon run. And that meant that it was 12 noon and time to go outside and play.
Shuki Levy deserves his very own vid dedicated to the sheer number of music he did for animated intros in 80s-90s -- and how *infectious* the vast majority of them are to this day!! Dude is a beast. He's pretty much what Mike Post is for prime-time TV shows.
Scooter was my favorite go-bot. The toys were less expensive than transformers but I preferred them as I felt they were higher quality being made of die-cast metal. I was a particular kid.
oh what do I remember about Kidd Video? Not much aside from the name Master Blaster, the Flip Side, and that as a little boy I had a crush on Carla. Also I seem to recall that this later aired on WGN sometime in the 90s. In the afternoon WGN had a a real thing about airing cheaply acquired cartoons. They aired Kidd Video for a while, the anime-ish version of the Little Mermaid, the old Three Stooges cartoon, Hulk Hogan's Rock And Wrestling, and real briefly they cobbled together Captain N, the various Mario cartoons and the Legend of Zelda toon as 'The World of Captain N'.
it's crazy you mentioned that. There was a Kidd Video Yahoo Groups that was very active, like back in the early and mid 2000s, up until around 2010sh? Robbie Rist is on facebook, and very active. I think the only one who just slid into personal life, was Bryan Scott(Kidd).
Man, just LAST WEEK I was saying to my buddy that I wondered if they ever escaped from The Flip-Side. After 30 years we finally saw Scooby-Doo capture The 13th ghost, I think it's time this group got home. Along with the Dungeons & Dragons kids and Will & Holly Marshall from The Land of The Lost. I AM 40 YEARS OLD AND NEED CLOSURE ON MY CHILDHOOD DAMNIT!
My personal head-canon is that they eventually DID find a way home and became a successful band. That's when all their music videos (the ones we see at the end of each episode) were made.
I always loved this show’s theme music (still do), as well as the Roger Dean-esque surreal realm of the Flip Side. Pure 80s fantasy gold. Rather reminiscent of Michael Ende’s classic, The Neverending Story. Man I love that stuff. Thanks for the trip!

That show always gave me the feels...and that intro still does. Like a handful of other obscure 80s Saturday morning cartoons that I remember well, I'm surprised there were only 26 episodes...seems like it lasted a lot longer (I'm looking at you, Turbo Teen and Pole Position). I think the live portion of the opening focused on "Cousin Oliver" more than "Kid Video" I think he was supposed to be the "star power" draw after the videos

There was never a resolution of the band making it back from the Flipside, so here’s one: Title: “Back to Reality” Opening Scene: The episode begins with the Kidd Video band-Kidd, Carla, Ash, and Whiz-still wandering through the colorful and chaotic world of The Flipside. They’re tired, but determined. They’ve finally uncovered a clue, a mystical artifact called the “Harmony Key,” which they believe can open a portal back to the real world. Act 1: The band races against time as they discover that Master Blaster has also learned about the Harmony Key and is intent on stopping them. He sends his minions, the Copycats, to steal the key. A high-energy chase ensues through the neon-lit streets and surreal landscapes of The Flipside. Along the way, the band plays a new, upbeat song to boost their morale, their music giving them the edge they need to stay ahead of the Copycats. Act 2: The band reaches the portal site, a massive stage-like platform at the edge of The Flipside. As they prepare to use the Harmony Key, Master Blaster confronts them. He reveals that once the portal opens, The Flipside will collapse, and all of its inhabitants will be trapped in limbo forever. This revelation causes the band to hesitate-could they really doom an entire world to save themselves? Act 3: After some soul-searching and a heartfelt discussion, Kidd realizes that their music has always been about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. Back in the days of Napster, I found a good quality version of "It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" which according to kvflipside.org has lyrics by Bernie Taupin. Also found a version of "Video Romeo" that's almost 4 minutes long and could have been released on the radio.
I Don't know if you know but ""It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" was maybe the only song covered by another band, Eigth Wonder. Kidd Video sang it in 1984-85, and Eigth Wonder covered it in 1986-87.
Oh yeah I loved that show when I was a little kid. It has this really weird surreal vibe that you just don't see with too many cartoons and the music really was catchy. Neat to hear what they got up to behind the scenes of the series. Thanks for the video! =3

Succeeded by Good Morning Ms. Bliss/Saved by the Bell, then California Dreams a few years after that and assorted kids sports news programs until NBC gave up on Saturday mornings. Looking back, they are indistinguishable from the kids in Denver the Last Dinosaur.

@@MaximumWarp2099 I have the album, it slaps. It's the perfect blend of earnest 80s pop and sheer "How the hell was this a thing again?" for me. Also there is a pretty good cover for "Where Did Our Love Go?", the lead singer had definite talent, but the industry was so damn cutthroat he didn't didn't have a way in.

I use to record their songs on cassette tape, and never knew they released an album til ebay came along.. I had such a huge crush on Carla. When I was young, this cartoon actually inspired me to learn how to play guitar and sing at the time. I've actually found the album years ago online! Downloaded Video to Radio and put it on my iPod. One of my favorite songs of all time, I always raise the volume when it comes on.

YES!!! YES!!!!! OH MY GOD YES!!! One of my top 5 favorite shows from the 80s...PERIOD!!! I did a lot of fan art, still listen to the soundtrack on a daily, have all of the episodes on a DVD somewhere around here and DUDE! Oh man I love you for this!!! It’s because of this show that I’m addicted to listening to the Pointer Sister’s “Automatic” whenever I get the chance! You just made my day!

Yeah, I grabbed them from a seller in Texas who had all 26 on VHS for sale on his site (he sold tapes of several series from his personal site) and I still have the tapes and converted them to MP4 to burn to DVD some years back.

Elementry school I used to go to would serve breakfast in the morning and play recorded Saturday morning cartoons while you ate. One of these was Kidd Video. You had an entire school belting out "HE'S A VIDEO ROMEO, VIDEO ROMEO, ROMEO VIDEO, VIDEO ROMEO!!!".

I actually stumbled upon a digital rip of the album they put out about ten years ago. It consisted of the full (about 3 minutes) and TV edited versions (about a minute thirty) of each original song they performed - including the theme song. To this day the full versions of the theme and "Run" are still in my playlist and are listened to regularly.
The group, minus Carla, appeared on Dance Fever back in the day performing a cover of Where Did Our Love Go. The clip is available here on TH-cam.
Kidd video and kids incorporated are the two in my head. 80’s kids had it the best. I try to explain to my kids what it was like. They don’t get it

The song I remember the most. They must have reran that one a few times for me to remember it. It's the song I mostly know by them.
I remember playing out the intro to the show as a kid with a Go-Bot named Scooter.
Scooter was my favorite go-bot. The toys were less expensive than transformers but I preferred them as I felt they were higher quality being made of die-cast metal. I was a particular kid.
oh what do I remember about Kidd Video? Not much aside from the name Master Blaster, the Flip Side, and that as a little boy I had a crush on Carla. Also I seem to recall that this later aired on WGN sometime in the 90s. In the afternoon WGN had a a real thing about airing cheaply acquired cartoons. They aired Kidd Video for a while, the anime-ish version of the Little Mermaid, the old Three Stooges cartoon, Hulk Hogan's Rock And Wrestling, and real briefly they cobbled together Captain N, the various Mario cartoons and the Legend of Zelda toon as 'The World of Captain N'.

it's crazy you mentioned that. There was a Kidd Video Yahoo Groups that was very active, like back in the early and mid 2000s, up until around 2010sh? Robbie Rist is on facebook, and very active. I think the only one who just slid into personal life, was Bryan Scott(Kidd).

My personal head-canon is that they eventually DID find a way home and became a successful band. That's when all their music videos (the ones we see at the end of each episode) were made.
I always loved this show’s theme music (still do), as well as the Roger Dean-esque surreal realm of the Flip Side. Pure 80s fantasy gold. Rather reminiscent of Michael Ende’s classic, The Neverending Story. Man I love that stuff. Thanks for the trip!

That show always gave me the feels...and that intro still does. Like a handful of other obscure 80s Saturday morning cartoons that I remember well, I'm surprised there were only 26 episodes...seems like it lasted a lot longer (I'm looking at you, Turbo Teen and Pole Position). In that same vein, thanks to shows like Kidd Video and Captain N, I definitely felt like I needed to be prepared just in case I got sucked into a portal and turned into a cartoon.
Kidd video was very influential to my young mind. From it I become interested in engineering, computers and a desire to own a Subaru Brat.
I became obsessed with scooters because Kidd had one, i haven't been without a scooter since that show and still ride to work on one as much as weather permits!

For a long time I thought I had made that episode up in my mind because I couldn't find anyone else who remembered it. Then the internet happened and I was vindicated.

I had to hear the "Kid Video" intro to jump start my 39yrs young mind of mine full of 80's & 90's knowledge & remember "Kid Video". Look at Robbie Rist on the "keys" aka Cousin Oliver from "The Brady Bunch" & Martin from "Grady".
I think the live portion of the opening focused on "Cousin Oliver" more than "Kid Video" I think he was supposed to be the "star power" draw after the videos

There was never a resolution of the band making it back from the Flipside, so here’s one:
Title: “Back to Reality”
Opening Scene:
The episode begins with the Kidd Video band-Kidd, Carla, Ash, and Whiz-still wandering through the colorful and chaotic world of The Flipside. They’re tired, but determined. They’ve finally uncovered a clue, a mystical artifact called the “Harmony Key,” which they believe can open a portal back to the real world.
Act 1:
The band races against time as they discover that Master Blaster has also learned about the Harmony Key and is intent on stopping them. He sends his minions, the Copycats, to steal the key. A high-energy chase ensues through the neon-lit streets and surreal landscapes of The Flipside. Along the way, the band plays a new, upbeat song to boost their morale, their music giving them the edge they need to stay ahead of the Copycats.
Act 2:
The band reaches the portal site, a massive stage-like platform at the edge of The Flipside. As they prepare to use the Harmony Key, Master Blaster confronts them. He reveals that once the portal opens, The Flipside will collapse, and all of its inhabitants will be trapped in limbo forever. This revelation causes the band to hesitate-could they really doom an entire world to save themselves?
Act 3:
After some soul-searching and a heartfelt discussion, Kidd realizes that their music has always been about bringing people together, not tearing them apart. He proposes a different plan: instead of using the Harmony Key to escape, they use their music to stabilize The Flipside and create a bridge between the two worlds. They perform their most powerful song yet, channeling the energy of the Harmony Key through their instruments.
Climax:
The band’s music creates a dazzling light show, merging the two worlds into one. The Flipside transforms, becoming a place where the laws of both worlds coexist. Master Blaster is powerless against the combined might of their music and the Harmony Key, and he’s forced to retreat.
Resolution:
As the dust settles, the band realizes they’ve succeeded-they can now freely move between The Flipside and the real world. They bid farewell to their friends in The Flipside, promising to return and play more music. Back in the real world, they find themselves in their garage, just as they left it, but with a newfound appreciation for both worlds and the power of their music.
The episode ends with the band looking at each other, smiling, and jamming out one last song, celebrating their return home-and the new possibilities that lie ahead.
Closing Scene:
The screen fades out with a final shot of the Flipside, now a peaceful and harmonious place, thanks to the band’s music. The door between the worlds remains open, ready for future adventures.

Back in the days of Napster, I found a good quality version of "It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" which according to kvflipside.org has lyrics by Bernie Taupin. Also found a version of "Video Romeo" that's almost 4 minutes long and could have been released on the radio.
I Don't know if you know but ""It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing" was maybe the only song covered by another band, Eigth Wonder. Kidd Video sang it in 1984-85, and Eigth Wonder covered it in 1986-87.

Wouldn't cha like to be a Pepper too? Yep Kidd Video was the last call show on NBC Saturday morning. Succeeded by Good Morning Ms. Bliss/Saved by the Bell, then California Dreams a few years after that and assorted kids sports news programs until NBC gave up on Saturday mornings.
Looking back, they are indistinguishable from the kids in Denver the Last Dinosaur.
