I have had so many people ask me to review this I thought I had better see what I can do!
Now the fact is at the time of publishing this video I do not have a copy myself so I am just like you wondering if this is something I need to get.
Luckily Chris Wright who is a Patron and contributor to Now Spinning has jumped in and bought a copy.
He has very kindly created a very detailed unboxing video so Caravan fans, serious PROG fans and anyone interested in the Canterbury scene can get a real feel for the box set and see if it is for them.
It is made by the same label people who put together the Wishbone Ash Vintage Years Set so the productions levels are high, as is the price!
There are only 2,500 copies being made available worldwide
So sit back, air yourself a drink and I will see you on the other side!

Very handsome looking set and a very therapeutic watch. Big fan of the album 'In the Land of Grey and Pink', I have the original vinyl and subsequent CD re-issues. A couple of years ago I managed to pick up a previous box set from Caravan second hand, 'The World Is Yours: The Anthology 1968-1976'. A four disc set completely dwarfed by this majestic offering but still brilliant.

Hi Peter, I also have that 4CD set and many of the albums so for me it is too expensive to justify it but it looks an incredible box set and if you were just starting out on your Caravan pretty essential! Phil

Thanks Phil I’ve got a couple of albums by Caravan and wondering how deep to dig! Definitely food for thought… 😬

Hi Louise, thank you for watching. This is a very expensive set but if you only have a few albums it is worth some consideration if you are into this style of music. This is why I went for the Wishbone Ash Box Set as I was not doubling up on very much. Phil :)

Very interesting to see. Caravan passed me by sadly. I am still thinking about the Frankie Valli + Four Seasons box at the end of the year. it's a hell of a lot of Dosh but suspect I will kick myself if it sells out, Anyhow I don't want to prepay for it now. Thanks for the video Chris.

Phil, - as you said: it should help to make an individual decision.... This for sure is an ultimate box-set. For me - I have most important Caravan albums in vinyl and/or CD - so I will not buy this gigantic box-set.

It looks wonderful. I'd love it. Unfortunately, it's just too expensive for me at present. I've got all the albums up to and including Blind Dog at St. Dunstans remastered and the 5.1 of In the Land of Grey and Pink. The albums after that in all honesty aren't very good. The remasters in this box are the same as the ones I've got from my understanding, so I'm not missing out there.
However, the book looks great and having all the albums would be nice.
I have just brought the Van Der Graaf Generator box though, so it's out of the question for me.
If it's still available around my birthday in May, I'll take the plunge but I doubt it. You can't have everything can you and for me, the VDGG was more important. 😭

Hi Stuart, on the splurb on the Burning Shed site, it says "14 newly remastered studio albums" which I guess might be somewhat ambiguous and could mean they've not been remastered for this project? Anyway they do sound really great. I think everyone has their priorities. As far as it being available into next year, I think that's unlikely. Prices will inevitably escalate once this becomes scarce. But you never know. The Wishbone Ash box could be found, with a bit of a hunt, over a year after release.

@@chriswright5016 Yes, I've got that, didn't buy it until about six months after release.
I read the blurb but the Steven Wilson remix and 5.1 isn't new, that was released a few years back and the remasters were done by Pascal who is Madfish's main man for doing these, so if it says it's by him, they're the same. If it's someone else, then I'll have to risk missing out, I just don't have the money now.

The VDGG is excellent and about half the price. The Caravan set looks like a piece of art, but like you I have too many of the albums and the Steven Wilson mix already.

@@NowSpinningMagazine I'd like to know who did the 'new remasters'. If it was Pascal or not. It could be that the albums from Blind Dog onwards are new, I don't recall them being remastered before?

Not as great as I anticipated. I will sell mine at a loss. It's new and mint.

I've listened to some of this box and can confirm - as reported elsewhere - that disc 10 - Blind Dog At St.Dunstans - is just a rip from vinyl. I would be very annoyed if I paid nearly £200 for this set and found one of the albums is just a recording of someone's old LP.

    • @NowSpinningMagazine
      @NowSpinningMagazine  ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Henry, interesting I did not know that. In the U.K. the set is £175 at the moment and I’ll admit with a £100 off I am tempted. Phil
