I'm personally saving so much time from you guys making great videos together because I'm a huge fan of both of you! Now I can watch both very knowledgeable guys at the same time. Keep the training videos coming.
One of my blessings was growing up as the son of a landscaper who owns his company. So if I ever have a new job I'm taking on or I haven't quoted that style before I'm always having a 30 minute conversation with him on types of materials, expected times, etc. Basically get an idea myself, run it by him, adjust anything before I concrete the quote and design of the job. I'm having to adjust to the fact that I can also quote much higher than him as he lives in rural communities and I live in a fairly affluent area on Canada so pricing is much higher out here in terms of labour etc. and like Brian said, it's easy to feel like you're charging too much based on what you would personally spend. I just finished a 15 by 10 ft semi circle egg-shaped flower bed for a customer. From stripping it all down, grading, fabric, edging, mulch, planting, it took me 2 days and probably cost a total $1,000 CDN and that was with the customer going out to grab the plants and mulch and me just charging labour and material (with a margin built on top of material costs). Were I supplying the mulch and plants it would've been $1,500 vs a total cost to them of probably $1,250. And that's just for one bed. It adds up quickly.
Same here. I recently started my lawn maintenance business . My father owns landscape and maintenance out in Arizona I currently live in California. Anything I need help on I call my father .
By watching your channel I got a call for a one time mow because their mower was in the shop. I bid and said 35.00 to mow. If you want weed eating it will be another 10.00. At first it was just mow. Then it was trim to. It sounds great if i did it all day. But add my 30 minutes to load up for just 1 job, gas, drive time, unload time and cleaning equipment. Took me down to about 10.50 a hour. Works great if you do a whole neighborhood.
Great insight into pricing,i have done a few jobs where i have under quoted because i didn't take into account a lot of the finer points,ie dump fees, travel time etc. Thanks guys
Love all of your videos, together and individually. Subscribed to both channels. Always good information for the beginner and experienced lawn care providers. Keep up the good work and positive energy 👍
Okay, you two did a residential quote. Now do a commercial quote. This is so awesome. I would love to do a walk through from start to finish with Keith to see how he invoices, talks to the customer, request the down payment, and all that goes into the large jobs that he does. Not to get in his business, but to actually see it done from start to finish. These videos are great but for someone like me that is a hands on learner, watching is good, but does not teach. Thank you both for doing this type of video.
Really great video, fellas. I especially liked the part towards end about not putting your perceptions of cost of the project on the client. I’m always shocked how much folks are willing to pay for services I would never pay for.
Two of my favorite lawn care channels in one video, loving it 🤙. I greatly appreciate you guys sharing this information as I'm still very new to the business and want to learn as much as I can
Love these videos! Brian this is where you should head your business towards....this is where the $$$ is and that’s exactly why your in business!! Keep up the good work my friend..
Great video guys 👍 I just price a job and was telling myself did I make it to high or to low. This video helped me feel better about my pricing now. Thank you for the great information.
Yeah! I wanna see some more! damn rights. I usually watch valuetainment & bryan casella for sales and stuff like that.... (Then a bit of Alpha m for humour, bit of a business guy too but yeah.) But this! 110% different football field i'd love to play in! You guys are teaching me things that I don't even know about yet! This is absolutely awesome thank you so much!
Free video guys I love watching you guys work together like this keep up the good work give us more videos I've been doing some small landscape jobs in a lot of trimming work but I always feel like I'm under bedding the trimming work I turned a couple jobs down that I did last year and they were like why why don't you want to do our job I said because I didn't make any money out of them so keep up the good work
Great video! We just purchased a Vermeer Mini Skid Steer & Sure trac tilt trailer! So pumped to grow BIGLY this season! Time for an F-250 Kieth like Brian and Myself ;)
I feel like I'm more like you brian. Mow and go. The landscape work is fun. Laying sod down rock design ECT. Yes it's hard work but it's worth it. It's lasting results. All the bark videos you have. Is there a way to offer landscape work but only do the labor side and have a friend or someone else do the architecture of it?
Speaking of rookie mistakes why the white Ford has no wrap or some basic info lettering at least? No hating at all but I think it's one of the first things to do in our business. Makes you look more professional and you pick up some jobs from it too
@@BriansLawnMaintenance fair enough. I did it cause I really like my logo lol and the look of it on my work truck. We did get some work from it too but it's really not an "essential" like proper and reliable works is!
Hey Brian I got laid off from my steel mill and I went out bought a zero turn, weed whip, edger, hedger, chainsaw, and back pack blower... how do I start getting customers? I hope by next year to cut grass and landscape and by next winter buy a plow truck. Where you out of in Michigan Brian? I'm from South Lyon.
at 500 sq ft, if you were to space them every 2 ft apart you'd use 3 nails per width if using a 4x300 roll (likely using 4 foot rolls given the width of the bed, unless they're 5 foot beds then a 6 foot roll works better and ends up using 200 nails at 4 per width), which would be almost 100 ft of the roll. so a 6 foot roll would use 100/2 = 50 widths x 4 nails = 200 nails total. using 2 4 foot rolls if it's a 6 foot bed would still only use 4 wide since you'd use 2 where the fabrics meet and 1 at either end. 500 is actually way, way, way overboard so I'm guessing it was just a number tossed out in the moment. Even with it not being a perfect rectangle, 500 is killer quote inflation given the pricing of nails.
@@keith-kalfas Thats what i figured. Easier to ballpark and figure out things later. I'm fully expecting an update with some very specific number like 367 though.
Does anyone know where you get the signs made for the sides of the dump trailer like that, those are nice I want to get some like that for my junk removal business.
Based on his numbers there does not seem to be much profit in the job, consider he plans on being there for 7 days. Estimate was 13K, and @ 25% profit that is $3,263 which is just over $466 a day. Maybe it is for his location? I am in the north east market so everything is more expensive here.
Having Keith in my life is more important than having your critical attitude and comment on my channel. If you don’t like it, find a different channel bud.
It’s easy to criticize, but maybe find something to appreciate about someone before you critique them. Keith’s been a major influence in my life for a thousand reasons. No harm no foul, I just don’t think it benefits any of us to worry about each other’s weaknesses. God bless
What happens when you take a week to get the quote and they tell you no. Too expensive. You are out a weeks work investigating for someone that says no. Sorry
That’s where you take a deposit or charge for a design. If they go with the design, that gets factored into the price no cost. If they skimp out, you saved your tail on a $250-$500 design fee. Little things like that help.
He was saying it could take 5-6 but I also know Keith saying this shouldn’t take that long. But even if it did, that’s still a fair week of revenue and profit 👍
It can be extremely frustrating. I've advertised online and flyers and only got 1 consistent lawn. A guy im working with wants to move east and sell his business of 60 ish clients, none under contract, to me for 30k CAD, after number crunching the lawn care is pulling 49k CAD a season. Hay Kalfas why you still in that 150 why not 250 or 350 like Brian here? Heavy dump trailer and other stuff the larger trucks were made for?
He doesn’t plow and those new 150’s are dope. I’d honestly have a 150 if I didn’t plow.

I'm sorry I have to ask another ? LOL did I hear him say hes gonna put 500 pins to hold down the weed barrier ?
at 500 sq ft, if you were to space them every 2 ft apart you'd use 3 nails per width if using a 4x300 roll (likely using 4 foot rolls given the width of the bed, unless they're 5 foot beds then a 6 foot roll works better and ends up using 200 nails at 4 per width), which would be almost 100 ft of the roll. so a 6 foot roll would use 100/2 = 50 widths x 4 nails = 200 nails total. using 2 4 foot rolls if it's a 6 foot bed would still only use 4 wide since you'd use 2 where the fabrics meet and 1 at either end. 500 is actually way, way, way overboard so I'm guessing it was just a number tossed out in the moment. @@d1vin1ty Very smart observation! I'm going to count every single pin and come back and comment here.

@@keith-kalfas Thats what i figured. Easier to ballpark and figure out things later. I'm fully expecting an update with some very specific number like 367 though.
Looks good. Where did you buy the edging and what is it called?
hey brian
Skip the pins, lay your fabric down and decorative stone or mulch will hold the fabric down no need to waste time and money for pins
I am 12 and I have around 15 lawns I just bought my own snowmobile but next years gonna be a new mower
Just curious...is he just gonna leave those gutter down spouts there to blast water in the plant beds ?
I’m sure he’ll be adding French drains and down spouts to shed the water, yep.
