    Why don't you create a series out of this and you name the best trails of every country or like this

    I planned a Moab trip Oct 2017, rode Slickrock in 57 mins (possibly the proudest moment in my life, even got a KOM on one segment), then The Whole Enchilada the next day on a 100mm XC bike. Amazing trip but dang I felt under gunned on TWE. I did see one guy on a full rigid bike which looked miserable. The climb at the beginning in the mountains is much tougher than anyone lets on and the riding gets extremely tech through pretty much the entire thing. If you only like fast flowing smooth trails, you probably won't enjoy how rugged it gets. My strava read 37 miles for the entire thing. But I did ride all the way back into town after for an amaaazing meal.
    Slickrock is just fun and playful. You could spend days and days out there exploring different areas. So so cool! One mistake I made is I thought it was mtb only and I yelled at some guys on motorcycles riding up the trail. As it turns out, I think they're actually allowed on that trail. Strange.
    I will note that there are some absolutely epic rides in northern Utah as well. Google Wasatch Crest Trail, about 30 miles of almost all downhill flowing beauty. Wildflowers abound, in the distance is mountain peak after mountain peak as far as the eye can see. Tight aspen forests, a few tech spots, so so fun!
    Great video, thanks Martyn! If you want a guide on TWE when you go, hit me up, I'll drive down. There is a spot you can drive to that bypasses the insane climb at the beginning which may be ideal for you as technically they don't allow e-bikes on the trail. Although my sister did it with no complaints. 808 238-9999 Shane

      Shane Harder we need to connect up and ride. We went to undergrad together, but it’s been a while. I now live in Montrose, CO, near Grand Junction. We’ve got some epic stuff here too. Let me know if you’d like to chat about it.

      It's not too strange the motorcycles are allowed on the Slickrock trail since it is originally a motorcycle trail. Motorcyclists are sharing it with mountain bikes, not the other way around :).

      You speak the truth Bob. Rode Navajo Rocks in the morning and drove the JK's through Hell's Revenge in the evening. OHV's, motorcycles, Jeeps, Hummers, and mountain bikes -- all at home in the beauty that is Moab slick rock. Man, how I love that place.

    My top 5 : Alpine trail, Oakridge, Oregon / 401 trail, Crested Butte, Colorado / Mag 7, Moab, Utah / Neilson trail, St-Raymond, Quebec

    • @topspot4834
      @topspot4834 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been to all but Oregon ... Quebec probably the most underrated place in North America. BC gets so the love, but anyone that's been paying attention knows the Northeast US and Canada is exploding with some insane parks and trails, almost reminiscent of Whistler in early 2000s with Killington and especially Thunder.

  • @kaynjohnson6014
    @kaynjohnson6014 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    It makes it hard for us people in Australia to to some of these trails, and in the fact that most of the people who build the trails here seem to think we only like tight twisty tracks and not flowing fast tracks. But I ask you to check out the Maydena bike park in Tasmania, it's what we have needed in Aus.

    Rode Petzen last July visiting from NZ. The best trail I have ever ridden. If there was one flow trail on the planet you should hit, this is it! Every other trail on the planet pales in comparison. Worth the trip to southern Austria!

    I live and ride in Pennsylvania. My favorite trails are the Alligreppis Trails at Raystown Lake in central PA. 30+ miles of great, fast, flowing, hand cut trail, plus great camping. Every year I take a trip there with a few friends. Any mountain biker in PA knows that it's awesome.

    I live near Moab and ride the final two often. Many riders around here actually complain about Slickrock, because it’s so much work to climb the wildly steep sections. I personally think it’s a joy as a whole!

    Been heading to Moab from Denver for a few years, and I have to say Captain Ahab is by far my favorite trail out there.

  • @igetlotsofspam
    @igetlotsofspam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Drop Slick Rock, and replace it with Amasa Back/Ahab, almost every trail in Moab has slick rock features. The slick rock trail it's self is an "experience" but not as fun as many of the other trails. Stateside though, you can't not talk about the trails in VT & NH, and to the north squamish, also no trip to Moab is complete with a quick hop over to the Loma/Fruita area.

    • @redoctober1947
      @redoctober1947 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha what trails in VT & NH if you're going to Moab? Hit the rockies and never look east.

    • @igetlotsofspam
      @igetlotsofspam 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      redoctober1947 east coast riding is so under rated, even up in QC. It may not have the sustained vert but if you don't mind pending it's got that perfect dirt , roots, rocks and all sorts of techy chunder and the level of support from the local communities is like no other. Kingdom trails, Waterbury, highland (yah it's a bp), oka, Florence, FOW...etc etc don't get me wrong I love the epic rides Utah, CO, and even Cali where I'm at.(downievelle, noble, Mammoth, tahoe and kern) but VT & NH are gems in their own right

    • @igetlotsofspam
      @igetlotsofspam 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's pedaling not pending*

    • @jacobpenick3285
      @jacobpenick3285 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahab kicks so much ass, couldn’t agree more

    • @redoctober1947
      @redoctober1947 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough; there is definitely cool stuff on the east coast. But I wouldn't make a trip for it from the UK. The sustained vertical you get in the west is just way more appealing to me; east coast riding outside of parks all feels like punchy XC, whereas riding in CO or UT feels like truly "all mountain" riding.

    I never thought I would be able to say I've ridden one of the top 5 trails in the world, but I have actually ridden Slick Rock, and as you said, the grip is out of this world, I couldn't believe the climbs I was actually making, it was crazy, but I wouldn't call it very technical at all, just fun.

    Here's mine.
    1. Bobsled (North Vancouver, BC)... all flow, all smiles. Best way to warm up and cool down on Fromme
    2. Upper Dale's Trail (North Vancouver, BC)... share's my name and there is so much flow. Links into Lower Dale's and Forever After two of my other favourite trails.
    3. In n' Out Burger (Squamish, BC)... just an absolutely beautiful slab
    4. Everything at Whistler. Crank it Up, A-line, Tech Noir, pulp Fiction, Angry Pirate, Samurai Pizza Cat are just some of the few that I enjoyed on my first trip there last summer.
    5. Goat (Whitehorse, Yukon). Super loamy with a bit of tech, definitely my favourite trail in my new home.
    A bit Sea to Sky heavy but hey that's where I called home for 9 years and where my mountain bike riding got a heck of a lot better.

    Pass'Portes du Soleil in French Alps - it's actually an event, but you can ride this trail the whole season. It's 80km long, has cumulated 5000m of descent and you're passing through Les Gets, Champery, Chatel, etc. so you can have on one day beautiful alpine single trails and some man-made bike park trails to ride. :)

    I would suggest a trail called Cuyuna trail in northern Minnesota. It's probably not nearly as good as most of these trails but it is rather unique in that a large portion of it is built on the rim of an old open pit mine and the dirt is a deep red that leaves your tires red for weeks.

At the bottom of the course is the ghost town of Downieville, famous for gold mining a century or more ago. Now a very cute California village with great eateries and coffee shops. On any given day I can hit the trails and loop 75 miles of super twisty xc trail without doing a section twice. No driving and no calling someone to pick you up, because you'll never leave the city! Topp Notch in Banff is top notch, it’s not necessarily worth a flight, but if you find yourself in Banff don’t miss out. It’s rated as a black on Trailforks but is more of blue with a few black features. Stunning scenery though.
    Blue Velvet to Crank It Up in Whistler, can ride these 2 trails with a trail bike, sort of top to bottom of Whistler.
    Big Trouble Little Chainring up, then down on Super Bear, near Mission, BC. Soooo perfectly sculpted for climbing and descending laps, most I did was 3 before my legs quit. the jumps on the way down offer progression to learn doubles but aren’t mandatory if you want to just roll them.
    Anything on Vedder Mountain near Chilliwack, BC. Except the stuff the Ahole motocross tools ruin.
    I just realized I could go on allllllllll daaaaaay but lunch is over.
    Just about anywhere in the Okanagan in BC, Golden BC, Invermere, Fernie, etc etc, Bragg Creek, AB, Hinton AB.
    I should be a guide but I sometimes zig when I shud zag... looks like Doddy in that epic crash of his

    For me the best trails are: Suger trail Israel or Vink line Morzine or A-line Whistler

    I can't wait, going to ride the whole enchilada in Moab in less than a month! Just three weeks and a 1700 odd mile road trip away

      Shea McMullan just as a heads up, you may not be able to do the entire trail due to snow.
