I think the chemistry and friendship of these two actors is what sustained the the storyline. Anyone can act like their partners and friends but I think Emily & David genuinely are friends and work partners. They both executive produced their show which is like their baby and that kind of symbiotic friendship & working relationship is a lot stronger than romantic relationships which are more difficult to sustain without children.
The Formula for BONES had changed a few times watching the DVDS. It started out with a cop show like concept as in COLD CASE and went then to a more THE AVENGERS ( from the 60s ) and X FILES like style with lots of bizzare cases and the reactions of the team to it. - up almost to a family show with " the kids around " well it would had been if BONES had went on
