The brutal thing about chess is that, sometimes, an apparently stupid, desperate attack can actually be a brilliant move, and a move that looks perfectly logical can blunder *all* of your pieces, as well as your car, your house and whatever remaining sanity you may have.
You forgot your neighbours house, the city block, the entire country, the entire continent, the earth, and the entire concept of chess itself

Makes you wonder the times you've been winning all the games at your ELO level that you were actually that close to dying but saved by your opponent's low ELO as well.

I had a game where I lost my queen in like the first 20 moves. But then I came all the way back and won. It's not the prettiest gameplay but its serviceable.
I'm around 1400 and never resign. Make them convert. There's a great chance they blunder and you get back in the game.
In low ELO chess you have a pretty decent chance to come back from even a queen hang. The higher you go the less likely it is but anywhere below 1500 I'd say you're still in within a reasonable chance of turning it around. And even higher there's a tiny but still there chance.

I'm not sure if it was the missed queen trap or the mate in 1 but either way, I've managed both. Oh well - chess is hard! Today I got a brilliant mark for trading my Rook for my Opponent's Bishop in a Rook + 2 Pawn Vs Bishop + 1 Pawn, creating a passed pawn for me. I know it's the right thing to do, but a brilliant mark?
It's the best move and you lose material. Therefore it's brillant.
Brilliant move is the best move which the engine can find only after certain depth is reached. So it is difficult to find for the engine. Brilliant moves outranks best moves. Hence brilliant moves are only made by the human player
@@iDueSopravvissuti Brilliant move classifications were also changed to include any sacrifice of material, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a complicated move, just one where you sac an exchange for an advantage

As a 900 I've had 1 brilliant move, and it was literally me capturing a hanging piece so idk
As a 700 I got one b move when I trapped a queen obviously not even doing it intentionally 🤣
As a now 1000 but 900 when the move occurred. I'd say my best brilliant move was a discovered attack to win a queen.

If you want to make brilliant moves, just look out for sacrifices that give you a checkmate or winning advantage
Crazy, I go back and forth between 900 and 1200 and I have brilliant moves frequently. I dont understand them, but I definitely get them.
@@anthonyulloa4408 i actually got a brilliant like that, it gave me a winning attack, but i was down in material. So, the move that was later labeled as brilliant was actually me seeing a forced draw - not the win.

I resent the statement that if you see someone moving their king up like that you should report them. Just yesterday I was playing a game (I'm also 1100) and I was losing so bad after a blunder I just started running my king up mid like I was throwing a league of legends game. Id be so mad if I got banned for accidentally playing like an engine when I was actually just trying to throw LMAO
Even when you casually look for king moves during a middle game, there are some tantalizing options to make your position more versatile- if there are no immediate refutations, then if you transition to an endgame your odds of winning can increase drastically. Cheeky maneuver, but it works pretty well in closed/ semi closed positions
When they ban an account they don’t just look at one game. If one game you found and played an engine move that’s just great insight by you. If you’re winning 90% of your games with a constant accuracy at 90 or above they’re going to look more closely. One game and one move is not going to get you banned even if you were reported.

When black missed mate in one, the absolute indignation and disgust in your voice had me crying with laughter
This series is fun to listen to but more than anything else it encourages me to go and play and just have fun because I feel like "these people are having fun and I could do this". The high level games are interesting and amazing of course but terrifying in the way that watching any master do their thing is a little terrifying.
A lot can be learned from a game between two relatively low-rated players, especially when a very good player, like Levy, is commenting on the game.
I once got 3 brilliant moves in a game only time I've had it. I sacrificed my Knight then my Bishop then my queen and checkmated him with a rook. Never seen any more since then lol. One time I sacrificed my queen for checkmate and it gave him taking the queen as a brilliant move but not my sacrifice which lead to checkmate

It would be interesting if you did a series where people sent you games they played that contain a Brilliant move, only they don't understand why it's Brilliant and you can explain it to everyone.
I did a brilliancy that would seem impossible for a 1500 rapid 10 minute game player ...that was a 6 move checkmate followed by the brilliancy ....and most amazing was the fact that i calculated all the variations in 56 seconds

Calculations are really easy, seeing 6 moves ahead isn't that impressive because it's forced mate, and most likely every move came with a check, but still gj. I can play chess in my head so maybe I'm just used to calculating and it's actually impressive for a 1500.

Random Ideas for the channel
1. Chess Champions of the world" series... We all know about World champions, US champions, Russian champions, but what about champions of lesser known countries? From Spain, from Mexico, from Egypt? A series on the best players from different countries around the world that may be lesser known
2. Youth Champions series, Covering worlds up and coming youth, their life stories, and their play styles.
3. Secret troll account, black out your username so the troll username doesn't leak out and just chat with people in online chat to try to mess with them and get content.
4. Guess the Elo variant, play random subs but black out their rating, after beating them guess their rating
5. Updates on the charities and videos of the kids you've helped
6. Shallow selfish plug, I'm around 1800-1900 on the online chess sites, I know we're minority on the channel but any vids directed on where we make mistakes and how we could improve would be cool if you ever get time around to that
These ideas may not be great, but I'm not a youtuber (lol), just a fan, thanks for being amazing :)

For anyone wanting to learn the dragon, Daniel nariditsky (sorry for the awful spelling you should know who hi is anyway) has a great video where he teaches moist Critical how to use the accelerated dragon and it helped me a lot when I was starting to learn it

One of the basic themes of chess is the theme of king and pawn offering protection to each other. Keeping one's king adjacent to one or two or three friendly pawns is a way to do so.
One case in point is at 15:51 when it is said, "Appearently black had to take with the h pawn... so the pawns needed to stay near the king." Two pawns adjacent to one's king often gives your king more protection than just one pawn adjacent to one's king, as turned out to be the case in this game.
When one player had only one pawn remaining, a second case in point is the scenario at 16:42 where it is said "[I]f you are checked here, the engine wants you to move your king out to h4." The h4 move was the only legal move to keep the king adjacent to his last remaining friendly pawn. Having one's king stay adjacent to his last friendly pawn is generally a good idea, unless there is a clear disadvantage to doing so. The computer engine judged keeping the king adjacent to the last friendly pawn to be good in this particular case, but keeping one's king adjacent to his last remaining pawn is often good practice whether or not a computer engine is used.
Both players in this game paid too little attention to an overall theme in chess of having king and pawn offering protection to each other. King and pawn sometimes make a surprisingly robust team, but many players ignore too much the potential for teamwork between king and pawn, and end up losing chess matches as a result.
