  • Sometimes what starts out as a "simple little scenic ride" can turn into "One Of Those Days". After exploring a most incredible lookout in the Blue Mountains, our scenic ride all of a sudden got a lot tougher than we planned.

    Nice quality videos with that sneaky Skydio we can't buy here!
    On a more important note, was the "Big bikes going ahead" before the Wr250R satire humour?
    As a WR owner currently, I feel embarrassed for him haha. Mine does crazy rocky mountain climbs.
    Either way, I'm sure the rider had fun. Enjoy gents!

    The kind of riding I enjoy, 2010 GS my bike, we do it all here in SA , clay, mudd, thick sand , and heavy mountain climbs like , Breedts Neck, Sani Pass, Die Hell.

    This is why little WR250R's are essential when riding solo, at least there is a possibility of getting out of bog holes.

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, but I wouldn't want to do long distance on a 250. I dropped my 701 in a mud hole on the last day of my Flinders ride and got it out solo. You'll notice that it took at least 4 of us to get the 250 out of that mud hole, so I think you'd be screwed if you hit that solo.

    Reminds me of my first off road ride with a friend. I had been riding dirt for about a month at the time, and a guy showed me some clay roads leading up into GA from north FL. I'm on 70/30 tires and the previous night's rain turned those clay roads into skating rinks.
    Crashed 3 times that day; after the first I lost a lot of confidence and the next 2 just snuck up on me. I tried to stay confident but, as you said, silly crashes just bring that confidence down and you make more mistakes.
    Looks like a good ride though; I definitely subscribed and will be checking out all of your videos! Keep em coming man!

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks YSPDJapan.... Yeah I hear you, the super slippery mud is tough even if you have the right tires on, but if you are on 70/30 or 80/20, then you are pretty screwed.

    Great adventure! Reminded me of the KTM Rallye a number of years back, we went through that region and it was spectacular! I fully understand what you're going through with the crap riding lol, I just got back from a 4 days adventure from Mt Buller to Dargo. We've had everything from rain and muddy to sunshine dry and slippery! After I had drown my Honda CRF450L in a brown creek crossing on the way out from Wannangatta Valley towards Dargo, my confidence just hit rock bottom lol. I made a mistake and chose Hearne Spur Tk, I got thrown back down at the crux of the steepest climb! 3 tries I gave up and my mate hitched me up top. But the rest of the journey was such a blast! Adventure on, great videos! 👍👍👍

      Hey GoofyPunter... Your trip in Vic High country sounds great. I'm planning to do a 7 day trip down there in March. I can't wait. Will have to get my shit together for some of the climbs we are anticipating.

      @@brentbat Oh nice 7 days would be great! Yeah the high country is full of steep climbs and descents, just got to pick and choose carefully I reckon, study the map especially Rooftop maps gives very good details and information! Spoke to a couple up there and they said Billy Goat track is in great condition, can easily get up to the heli pad, to get up to the top there's a couple of step ups but the track is grated smooth apparently. You could also do the trig point Blue Rag Range Tk which is not too bad. I would say avoid coming up Hearne Spur Tk unless you're Nerb1, he just showed me how it was done with a 1190R lol, so it can be climb with the big boy! Check out a couple of his videos he did last year if you haven't, you can at least gauge what to expect. Good luck and have fun!

    Sunnyside ridge rd in the dry is a flat out blast. There is an easy route to the Ben Bullen lookout on the opposite side of the canyon which looks back at you that’s an even better view right up the Wolgan valley. Just head along the Blackfellows hand trail all the way to the end through the “gardens of stone” then turn left onto Wolgan valley rd and then turn right at the next dirt rd about 1/2 a Km along. Follow that to the end ( becomes an easyish fire trail ), then turn left onto the Bicentennial trail (easy) and along to the lookout which is on the right about a km along. This is an easier route than the other more direct way that usually claims bigger bikes. Wait till the rain has stopped for a week first up that way. The puddles won’t have dried out yet and will be extra rank when miss Daisy dips his boots in..... sorry, couldn’t help it.

    The fat GS . A real adventure bike lol

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fat GS is a great adventure bike for the right terrain. I just got back from doing the Idaho BDR. 8 days, 1,850 miles from Canada to Nevada. The GS was the perfect machine for that ride because there were a few long road stretches (and desert stretches) that the GS just ate up. Super comfortable. It was also not overly technical, so the GS could handle it easily. However, as you may have seen from my later videos, I'm bought a Husky 701 for the lighter weight and I'm selling my GS in Australia.

    Hi Brent. Great videos. Think I've nearly binge watched all of them. On this video I saw you had a 3d hema map. Where/how did you do that? I saw your rever video but I didn't see the hema map as the base map on there. Thanks.

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Paul, I assume you are referring to the 3d map about 15 seconds in. I actually used a 3rd party Photoshop plug-in to create that 3d "slice". It's not overly easy to do, and I was just mucking about with the Photoshop utility. If you are savvy with photoshop i can point you to the site where I got it. If you are not comfortable with photoshop, then honestly I'd put it in the "too hard basket". I'm a bit of a geek and know photoshop through my still photography.
      I'm glad you are enjoying the videos, I've got some more coming as I just finished the Idaho BDR (8 days of riding) and got some great material.

    Might have to check out that area on the mighty 1290R. How do you get through from Zig Zag? Last time I went (on an enduro bike), I climbed up from the back of Lithgow.

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Adventurist.tv. If you go to the parking lot of the Zig Zag railway on Bells Line of Road, then it's a very easy track in. There is nothing overly technical about the ride (other than the puddles when we did it), A friend of mine just did it on his 1290 when it was dry and he said there were a few sandy patches on the main trail, but I don't think it will give you much to worry about. If you need a waypoint or gpx file for the route, let me know.

    "The sympathy smile"?
    Don’t know how many hours of off-road riding you have accumulated but with these rhinos skipping through puddles and climbing muddy hills it is definitely inspiring.

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Orpaztron. I started riding offroad about 12 months ago. When I bought my GS1250, I wanted to learn how to ride it properly in dirt. So I went and did a 3-day offroad riding course (which was fantastic). th-cam.com/video/wysif9J4Th4/w-d-xo.html
      If you haven't ridden your GS much offroad, then you are really missing out on half of the bike's potential. The bikes actually ride really well offroad. They are not Enduro bikes, but on dirt roads, firetrails or reasonably simple bush trails they're great, and they allow you to get to some incredible countryside. I'm planning a 7-day trip into the Australian High Country in March...90% of it is will be on dirt, and I'm expecting to get to some incredible places and see things you can not see with normal motorcycles or cars.

      @@brentbat Unfortunately we don't have an advanced off-road riding course in Israel (like rawhyde e.g). I did a 1 day course (I ride a KTM 1090 ) and I have no intention of going in with weight and luggage to places with a difficult terrain and this is not a matter of self confidence. I have seen GS slip in medium mud several times. at the speed at which you roll over, the rider cannot react - even if he is a very talented rider. in dry and wide trail without deep sand or mud, I agree - it's a real pleasure. I'll probably move to the 690 because of the weight. good luck with trip...

    I just watch to laugh at all the adventure street bikes crash. BMW GS = garbage

    • @brentbat
      @brentbat  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well that is a pretty small minded view. I disagree, I think the GS is a great bike.... I do think we pushed them way out of their comfort zone which is why I now ride a 701... but calling them garbage is ignorant. They are a great bikes for a certain type of riding.
