    Sikorsky with the VS 300 broke the record and later Platt LePage found out the two side by side rotors had a big issue in maneuvering in cross winds... Major control issues. Project stopped.

      You're absolutely right! Those early helicopters, like the Sikorsky VS-300, really struggled in strong winds. It's amazing how far they've come since then.
      The Fw 61 faced its own set of challenges too. It was a pioneering aircraft, but early aviation was all about trial and error. They were constantly learning and improving.
      I think it's fascinating to see how far we've come in aviation.

      The dual side by side rotors did.
      And the Dragon FA 61 had maintenance issues - The Piasecki H 31 would swap ends in cruise flight. Even before there were interesting one off designs
