    Now that brings back old memories. I remember cutting hay with a Ford 2000 with a sickle mower hay cutter. I was about 14, and loved cutting hay. Liked breaking it up to didn't care about the baling part. It smelt great. I remember cutting hay with a Farmall h too. Loved it all. Good old days. 😃😀😁👍

    Oh my god, sickle bar mowers have been around since the McCormick reaper. This system is only a variation on that, just more parts to wear out, and, more things to go wrong. I grew up with a semi mounted mower mounted on a Farmall B, it would cut heavy Alfalfa all day long. Later we switched to pulltype hay conditioners, and, finally to mower conditioners. The mower conditioners had reel pickups to pull lodged and down hay into the cutting bar. You could probably buy a good used mower conditioner for less than this thing cost. And, a mower conditioner, will condition the hay for faster drying and better hay.

    • @darylsmioth1904
      @darylsmioth1904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the drying time is about the same between a haybine and a sicklebar mower because of how the sickle mower lays it all out flat in the field.

    Thank you for this excellent video. I live in Co Armagh in Ireland. When I discovered these sickle mowers about 4 years ago I was fascinated about the many innovations these machines have compared to the old traditional sickle bar mower, especially the “non clogging” aspect. I was virtually ready to import one in a box from Italy, until I read some general reviews on some farming sites. Some people complained about bits falling off, also difficulty with maintenance etc. I’m not fully convinced about such negative views, but I think you people have the correct approach of TLC towards the machine, especially the back up of a spare sharp knife. Your video has been exceptionally informative, almost better than the manufacturers in Italy. Please keep us up to date as often as possible on the wellbeing of this mower. How long approximately would it have taken you to cut this 10 acre field.? Thank you again.

    • @backtothelandorganicfarmer6861

      Thank you for you excellent comment! We still love this cutter. A ten acre field takes about two hours to mow

    • @rolsen1304
      @rolsen1304 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The machine is good, but sickle bar mowers requires a bit more skill to run then disc mowers. I think the bad reviews mostly stem from people who don't know their equipment... I have the 2.7m version of this Enorossi and love it!

  • @thebovees49091
    @thebovees49091 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    How long is the drying time compared to a mower/conditioner? Are you baling all round bales, or are you doing small squares as well? How badly does the sickle plug up with grass? Are replacement parts readily available? Your videos may have changed my mind about getting a discbine...

  • @mindymills2182
    @mindymills2182 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Whats the purpose of the lift spring and how to adjust that.? Is that what makes the outer end of the bar raise first? Wish I could find a good used one and trade my NH 451 on it!

      Yes, our local implements dealer has several BFS 210H seven foot sickle bar mowers in their display area. The gent said they ran about 4500 bucks. I currently am getting ready to cut, rake, and bale hay for the first time ever to feed our 2 horses for the winter. I only needed about 200 bales each winter for the past few years, so that's my goal. I have several old 50's through 70's sickle mowers in my collection. All with various needs of minor repairs or missing parts. I have a beautiful 3 point hitch Ferguson rake I picked up for $450, and a good working New Holland 68 super hayliner baler for $200 from a neighbor who moved up to larger, newer round bale equipment. Just right for my small operation with a 30 hp and a 45 hp tractor(s). I personally like the sickle mowers for now because everything fits in my pole barn neatly. I don't think I could fit a hayliner in there with everything else.

      The cam running the blades and stone guards separately? Like any cam system, say a two cylinder engine, two cams with different timing running on the same power input, so the blades and guards move independently and offset. So when the blades are at peak stroke the guards are at minimum stroke, and so on.

    I bought this mower last week (Farm King--Enorossi BFS 210 H) and love it, but am having a problem adjusting how fast the blade raises and lowers. I've followed the directions on turning those 2 knuckles near the end where you plug the hose into the tractor , but I'm not getting any results. Now it's stuck up and I can't lower the blade to mow. Any suggestions????

    • @backtothelandorganicfarmer6861
      @backtothelandorganicfarmer6861  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Turn the knobs counterclockwise while the tractor is off! Dont stand under it while you do this! The valves are probably closed and not letting fluid in or out! If it doesnt lower then start the tractor up and try your hydraulic handle to see if it lowers! I hope this works

    • @joyceweaver6949
      @joyceweaver6949 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your help! It worked! I was able to lower the blade and cut some pasture weeds. However, then the blade wouldn't raise up so I could leave the field and get through the gate. Grrrr. Had to walk back to the barn to get 2 wrenches. Eventually I was able to get it to raise again. Once back in barn with tractor it wouldn't lower again. So I'm to the point of having a mechanic look at it. Will solve this eventually! Love your videos. You're doing a good job. I have a small 57 acre farm all in hay and pasture and raise 150 head of Dorper hair sheep. So need a good mower.
