- Astronaut Scott Carpenter was interviewed for an oral history as part of NASA's Johnson Space Center History Collection.
Carpenter was one of the Mercury Seven -- America's first men in space. This interview was conducted in 1999 by Roy Neal -- longtime NBC News reporter and correspondent who covered the American manned space program.
