- Like Jupiter, Saturn is made mostly of hydrogen and helium. Its volume is 755 times greater than that of Earth. Winds in the upper atmosphere reach 1,600 feet (500 meters) per second in the equatorial region. (In contrast, the strongest hurricane-force winds on Earth top out at about 360 feet, or 110 meters, per second.) These superfast winds, combined with heat rising from within the planet's interior, cause the yellow and gold bands visible in the atmosphere.
Saturn's ring system is the most extensive and complex in the solar system, extending hundreds of thousands of kilometers from the planet. In the early 1980s, NASA's two Voyager spacecraft revealed that Saturn's rings are made mostly of water ice. They also found "braided" rings, ringlets, and "spokes," dark features in the rings that circle the planet at different rates from that of the surrounding ring material. Material in the rings ranges in size from a few micrometers to several tens of meters, and the size and structure of the rings are partly a product of the gravitational influence of several of Saturn's moons, known as "shepherd moons." Two of Saturn's small moons orbit within gaps in the main rings, and the rings are divided into seven sections.

Most voices grate on me after a certain point. So far, this one hasn't and whomever wrote the text will always be respect-worthy.

The theory that an ice moon called Veritas broke up under the gravitational forces from Saturn as it got to close seems reasonable enough with the data we have at present to work with. As the pieces spread out during the early formation of the what we now see as the ring system, there must have been some spectacular temporary patterns made as the various bits spead out crossing over the orbital paths and nearing the other moons orbiting Saturn. All though we can't say with any certainty that the moons presently orbiting Saturn at this time were there as the rings formed, it is however a reasonable presumption that all or at least most of the moons were already in orbit around Saturn at that time. The various moons must of had some effect on the expanding and forming ring system which would have made some very interesting swirls and or eddies in the early stages of the developing ring system as it formed in to what we see today.
One of my rabbits is called Cassini for her curious, inquisitive nature. The narration for Cassini's death dive at the end of its lifetime is beautifully and heartbreakingly told. Saturn and Cassini together, forever 😔👍
Cassini was an incredible voyage of learning details of Saturn and it's moons, Titan videos are amazing.

The narrator always somehow makes himself and myself feel far away. Something about his voice makes me feel the sheer distance, size, majesty etc involved between ourselves and Saturn.

It is indeed an incomparable world class documentary. But I felt sad bout the crashed of cassini, thanks for the hard work & geniuses of our earthly scientists. I noticed in a post the other day,that Saturn has dual opposite poles that take a binary spin at the poles. That's what keep the rings going.
Alternate theory: Mimas shot another moon with a super laser. Millions of voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced and Saturn rings were born.
