Absolutely priceless ! This champion of the working class now runs about in a £60,000 Range Rover and is a property developer in Cyprus. Wheres his flat cap and whippet now ???

One question when does a passionate debater end and a "rant" begin? According to BBC it's here! 😡

These BBC people don't have a radical bone in their bodies, they're too concerned about their position in the pecking order.

I can't say that I agree with everything that DH says but, my goodness, his comment about the lazy BBC's Google-scraping journalism was bang on. And then to pat him on the head with a "There, there. You've had your rant." and smirk is the embodiment of how low the sofa surfing BBC has plummeted in the last ten years.

Excellent comment. I watched it live at the time and have done a few times since. Hatton was totally correct in everything he said. I have never been able to take Johnson seriously but this just took the biscuit. The media hates it when it is called out for its bias. It is a self perpetuating echo chamber; self satisfied and unaccountable. A whole load of questions that could not be asked because Hatton ranted? He did not as he rightly pointed out. No reason why the interview could not have been extended if the BBC wnted to hear the answers but clearly they wanted to cut the interview as soon as possible when the answers were not to their liking. The BBC is state propaganda.

Forget politics, Britain needs outspoken free speeches and characters...love or loathe ....gets debate and wakes folk up. Hatton is a painful national treasure! True reality TV.

The establishment once again have ganged up on a politician who tries to tell the truth Derek quite rightly said that the reports and interviews were not balanced and are biased He was correct The people who live in the new housing around the vauxhall road area (the area that governments since the 2nd world war had allowed to degenerate) would thank the then Liverpool council for their new and well designed housing and those same people have worked tirelessly to keep a fantastic community going

Derek Hatton was alone against MI5, Special Branch and the establishment when he was trying to sort Liverpool out. A liverpool that Thatcher had written off with her "managed decline" strategy which was another way of saying "let them rot". Despite this, he was able to make some progress in improving the lives of ordinary scousers.
I use to love the BBC but over the last few years they have moved increasingly towards the right. Moving to Manchester might remind them about the working class.

funnily enough on TV it doesn't seem to matter whether what you're saying is right or wrong if you get angry it just comes across very bad for some reason

Probably not, but I'd say it wasn't the fault of the council. Their ideas were 'radical', i.e. innovative and daring, and could have worked well. They were committed, sincere and forthright. Unfortunately, they went against Thatcher's policies and were stopped from doing what they were elected to do. They stood up for the poor & made good strides in housing. John Hamilton was the brains of the outfit, a very decent man. Removed from elected office because they disagreed with central gov't.

The problem is that a lot of the common sense that Hattons speaks is lost in his appalling approach. When someone comes across as rude and arrogant that's often because they are rude and arrogant so any facts get lost in his 'ranting' - and there's no better word for it than the one used by the presenter: ranting. As ever, with Hatton, he never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity
