    Typically companies fix the extra voltage by using a diode, some even provide it telling you where to put it - across the two terminals :)

    Is it possible to keep the the existing doorbell knob parallel with the netatmo? Does then the wiring direction matter? And does the activation of the old doorbell knob only activate the chime or does it also activate the netatmo connection with the smartphone?

      I have the same question. 🤔 It would be nice to use the old doorbell and keep this one as a secondary doorbell/camera.

    I fitted a Google Nest Hello doorbell yesterday - I opted for a chime-less install as i'm using a google home hub to announce that there's someone at the door. The wiring diagram on the google nest site showed the chime device still needed to be used and wired inline on one side of transformer output. I taped up the two wires that would have gone to the chime. I wonder if there's something in there that also helps regulate the voltage rather than it simply being a bypass?

    My son is in the process of refurbing his hall, stairs and landing so means new everything including ceilings etc. He's got a ring battery system at the moment but is going to replace it with something else with a permanent supply so it's obviously the time to install a cable for it. it seems that different smart bell manufacturers use different voltages and he hasn't yet decided which one he's going to buy so we've decided to wire in a socket into the under stairs cupboard (he needs one there anyway for a camera system) and take a cable into there ready to wire into a plug-in dedicated supply. These bell transformers are just so old hat at 8 volts and being 2 din wide there's often not a space in the consumer unit for it and also they're often in an unsuitable location.

    Nice Video ! I just purchased my door bell and i want to replace the old system. Does the chime module support 230 V input as i can find 230 V bells without transformers. Yes it would mean having 230V outside but would prevent me from adding an extra transformer in the fuse box.

    I love this doorbell and the fact that is HomeKit compatible, I want to make an installation without chime (the ideia is to use the HomePod as chime), does anyone know if it’s possible to connect the 230V directly to the natatmo doorbell without transformer? If yes, do I still need the chime module?

    • @efixx
      @efixx  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You would still need a transformer and you would need to put the chime module in circuit to avoid short circuiting the transformer when the button is pressed on the doorbell.

Won’t provide a love view in the security app after a software update - voltage supply issue. 14v unloaded at the transformer - need a second pair of hands to test the loaded setup.

    Do you think that there was some back emf when the bell coil was de energised that was creating the issue also? ..I cannot see it helping. You can get a wee crack from some bells at that point.

  • @daniellittle7846
    @daniellittle7846 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The output voltage is high because the transformer expects 230 exactly to produce those voltages your input is likely at 240 which is why you're getting a higher volatage on the output

    • @westinthewest
      @westinthewest 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The input voltage discrepancy isn't enough to cause the additional 50% - 100% voltage on the unloaded secondary. It's designed into the circuit to take account of voltage drop when current flows through the transformer windings, and through the thin bell wire which is typically 10m long to the switch and then the bell. Those cheap nasty switch contacts can lose a bit of voltage as well.

  • @ecoworrier
    @ecoworrier 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Silly question... does the smart bell and chime worry about which way around you wire it? For a standard bell button and ringer I guess not, and both wires on the chime are black so I guess bot but just checking. I've been waiting for this model to be released for a couple of years. It fits well for my needs.
