I heard that they wouldn't allow the previous Miss America to wear pink simply because she didn't like pink "gretchen hates pink?!" Like srsly, wut does that even have to do with inappropriately wearing things? Pinks just a color of dress...
As Miss Oklahoma 2017 and competitor with Cara, I really appreciate your honesty! Cara is an amazing individual and so very strong. Thank you for continuing to empower our Miss America and candidates!
I agree with you! I feel for Cara and wish that she was able to thoroughly enjoy her reign as Miss America. I also noticed that they didn’t really show her at all during the show, except for a brief second at the beginning and at the end. Then, I saw her Instagram story..and realized why. #TheGretchWhoStoleSwimsuit Love your recap videos Danni!💕
96GlitterGlam your hashtag 🙌🏼😂😂😂😂 yes very very sad about the whole thing. Cara referenced that she wouldn’t be featured during the show before hand. So it was no surprise but still disappointing.
I whole heartedly agree! It’s so sad to watch the beloved Miss America Organization transform into what it is today... I highly respect Cara and her bravery throughout her reign! I was very disappointed to see small traditions not be in the production this year. Such as the all white evening gowns for all of the contestants except the top five during the period of the crowning, and that the “there she is Miss America...” song was not played. I always love hearing your opinions and how you inspire young women. Dani!
Kaitlyn Warden thanks Kaitlyn!! I forgot about the white gowns. Did the song play last year? I think it may have to do with the fact that Dick Clark productions stopped producing the show before the CEO scandal.
Dani Walker I just looked back at Cara’s crowning to see if the song played, and it did. I could see where that would change with the changing of producers!
I have literally been checking your channel ever hour today waiting for this video. I haven’t even watched it but I already know I am going to agree. Love you and your opinion!
I saw Olivia's interview when she was in Russia and I felt like she was being asked to apologize for being pretty and a lot of other things. I became a fan after that interview. You look radiant!
Gretchen Carlson is a JOKE. Personally I wasnt a fan of the interview with the top 15. Many of the questions were too similar. Alot of my favorites didnt place in the top 15. Plus the talent many had similar performances and I got bored. Plus the “red carpet” competition had gowns done before at Miss USA and Miss Universe. Love you Dani ❤️
The talent for the most part was not impressive. The piano players were good, Miss NY was the only one that could sing, and the Irish dance was refreshing...that was it.
@@kimberlyarp4893just be thankful that you aren't Gretchen Carlson. Shes a chubby puppet on a string that was flopped around on national television to push agendas
I saw on Facebook that they aired a video of Gretchen being crowned Miss America (on the news) and not Nia this morning, as Nia’s announcement of being crowned!! It’s already off to a rocky start.
I agree with everything you said wholeheartedly Dani! Miss America was shoving the whole relevancy bit down our throats way too much. Also evening gown was disappointing with the rushed walks and rehearsed statements. I love how you were sipping tea or coffee in the video proving a point! Great job on that! Btw I’ve a suggestion for a video, you should make a video on how to care for your crown because I know some girls who don’t know what they should do as far as maintaining their crowns i.e. keeping it sparkly or from tarnishing. Mahalo for your Miss America commentary Dani! Keep the videos coming!🤙🏾
The red carpet wasn't meant to be an evening gown competition. That was the new "wear what makes you feel good" competition and I figured most of that would be evening wear since a lot of titles and wardrobe were gotten before the changes were announced. I was extremely confused about the final 5 questions with the judges. How was it weighted? Did it determine the next Miss America?
As far as opening outfits go, you nailed it. The girls were told that the theme for the opening number was Night On the Town, and they were to choose, pay for, and bring something to wear that reflected what that theme meant to them. Great assessment; I agree with pretty much everything you said. I also can't wait to hear from Cara.
The audience that Gretchen is trying to appease does not like pageants. Dani is right. Know who is your target audience . Hopefully Miss USA system can learn from America’s debacle.
Miss America is trying to be relevant but their need for relevancy is not gonna work in their favor, and I’m afraid it will become irrelevant. I felt bad for Cara. Great video Dani!!! I completely agree 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So I have never competed in pageants. I am a dancer and have always had the interest in pageants, but I felt I didn’t have the right body type for swimsuit. As an outsider, I had very mixed feelings about Miss America this year. So I really liked that they lost the swimsuit competition. I’m in college and I’m the age for Miss America, so it actually has made me consider looking into the organization since I wouldn’t have to compete in swimsuit. I feel like maybe they should’ve replaced it with another health and fitness related competition, however, like maybe completing a certain number of exercise hours or taking on a health related platform, etc. But I HATED that they got rid of evening gown. I really don’t see what is different between evening gown and “red carpet” in terms of judging. They could’ve kept the evening gown competition without having a beauty score. I think it’s fine to judge on poise and confidence. I also didn’t like how much they pushed the “relevance” and forced 2.0 down our throats. It turned me off of the Pageant. I thought the questions from the girls weren’t great. I also didn’t feel like we got to know the girls that well. I felt like I didn’t know the winner at all so it was hard to root for her (other than her fabulous talent performance). I really liked Miss Connecticut and Miss Louisiana because they seemed a little more real than many MAO contestants. I’m surprised neither of them won. And most of the girls still looked all the same and had the same body type (but that could be because the state pageants hadn’t changed over to the no swimsuit model yet). I also feel like if they wanted to push this as “real women” and push the scholarship angle, the contestants could’ve spoken more about their platforms and academic achievements than having that weird extra Q& A session and the awkward red carpet interview. So basically, yes, getting rid of swimsuit worked if their purpose was to attract more contestants because it definitely made me more interested in entering one of their pageants, but I also felt that the telecast was so forced that it also made me feel like I could be entering something really forced and that’s not for me.
Ginny Beth really great assessment. I agree with your points and can understand exactly where you’re coming from because many of my coaching clients are voicing the same opinion.
I loved the pageant this year! Wish Cara had been on stage throughout & that the theme song would have been played at the end. But the OSQuestions were so much more relevant to the contestants & their answers were much more personalized this year. Loved it. 3 talents really were amazing---AL ballet, FL piano (Liszt' Mephisto Waltz), & CN Irish dance...FANTASTIC!
Hi Dani. Just realized you had a TH-cam channel. I've already subscribed. I love the way you talk, your arguments and reasons. The facts you described, you are right in all your statements. I can't wait to watch you making the Miss Universe recap! 😗😘
You're so sweet. No worries though, this title gave me more than I could ask for. I am really looking forward to using the new free time I will have to pour into my channel to bring everyone better content
A few mins in and i already shouted preach!!!! (In the best way). You are hitting the nail on the head. I was heartbroken this year and I am been a volunteer for years and really reevaluating what my role is gonna be going forward
@@DaniWalker Its been a nightmare, I volunteer on the local level overseeing production. We haven't had any communciation from MAO, no new scoring and locals for next year are already taken place. It is not fair to the ladies competing to have no idea how and what they are scored on.
Victoria Wejko oh my gosh. That is CRAZY!!! Very unprofessional and it’s a great reason for new girls not to sign up. Your best assists are current contestants. They’ll either tell potential contestants it’s a great experience or to avoid MAO. I don’t understand why the board isn’t getting this :(
Love this video (you sipping the tea almost made me spit out mine 😂) but I love how fun your having with it! Your not taking anything to serious with it and your just saying your opinion. It’s refreshing to see people not getting butt hurt about it lol. Hopefully nia gets better treatment this year!
Speaking as someone who has watched pageants since a very young kid, this pageant overall was a hot mess. Your commentary is spot on and me agreeing like I was in the Amen corner at church. At the end of the day Miss America is a pageant based on providing scholarship opportunities for young women to pursue their life goals and dreams Finals night needs to show the outside world your best and brightest and why women still need this option for scholarships in 2018 & beyond. If Miss America 2.0 wants to change public perception then use social media & mainstream media the other 364 days of the year to show what Miss America does & how that work helps young girls & women from any background
First of all Dani, I love you. I think you are F-ing brilliant, so entertaining and engaging. Love watching you and your videos. Keep it going! Could not agree with you more on your recap. in another video you mentioned about how getting rid of the SS portion is such a mistake and if we are going to get rid of something, it should be talent. Could not agree more! Folks, watch it. It is brilliant and Dani's explanation says it all. I believe the Olivia Culpo interview you are referring to is the one where she is interviewed by a Russian journalist. OMG. Folks, google it. Olivia handled herself beautifully. Agin, thanks!!!!
Thank you Christian. I really appreciate that. Now that my reign is coming to an end, I am really trying to create better content for the channel. Lots of planning and prep has been going into my new episode so they will bring value to viewers. I really appreciate you sharing that and for your positive encouragement.
"Let's be glamorous and socially conscious!" Remember that part? I don't know if Miss America 2020 is going to be on T.V. this year. Even Betty Maxwell (Cantrell) said that Miss America 2.0 is a big failure.
New direction? It's still a beauty contest even without the swimsuits. I noticed the answers from the contestants ended with a second or two of each other which told me it was scripted. I think one contestant went over 5 seconds. Overall, the start of the Gretchen era was boring and too political at times, also it's one thing to market certain women, but if the ratings fall by the wayside with the rest of us like it did so far (36 percent drop), Miss America will not be on primetime tv anymore.
Oh boy! I had a difficult time watching the "competition", last night. You were spot on for posing the question of who is their target audience. It was all over the place and the "competitors" were clearly given a heads up to the possible questions that might be asked. Too rehearsed! And, what's with the "Red Carpet" deal? I better stop before I get carried away... LOL
hahaha I had to stop too, and this was edited down from the original. I could go on for days lol. At USA we also get a list of possible question topics before the show, but they always encourage us to be ourself, which I appreciate and it really encourages girls to stay candid and not sound over rehearsed.
I agree, I should be on the board of some large and respected pageant system. I would bring changes the fans and contestants want. Maybe one day I'll have that opportunity.
Usually for past five years spectating the final televised Miss America competition, talent is least favorite part, however, some of this year's talents return impressed me like the one who did a dance to nice classical music, the one who recites a poem, and Miss Nebraska dramatic monologue on how life must be cherished in the monent because tomorrows not guaranteed for everyone (who are terminally ill especially with cancer) I loved the beginning where contestants were divided into groups and said a word together like "independent, confident, etc" and the red carpet was cute but ya I agree couldn't they let them walk with more style than rushed? I rate this new version of MaO competition a 8/10.
I agree, the contestants didn’t get to show off their gowns. I this is the first time I watch the Miss America and also didn’t know their answers were memorized.
Normally they aren't memorized. This is the first time in my memory that I saw contestants say a rehearsed phrase, with the exception of past opening numbers when the girls used to say something fun about their state. Usually they only do an on-stage question.
Hey Dani, great video. I was talking to a lady whose daughter competed for Miss Tennessee USA a few days ago and she kept saying how it was all rigged and that they already know who’s going to win. She said that a week before the pageant they already had they’re top 15 girls on their website and most of them places very well in the pageant and that they give preference to returning girls. I’ve never heard this from anyone else before. Can you speak to this a little bit?
Dani, you are brilliant , you are on-point and i couldnt agree more. Btw, i saw Olivia Culpo's interview with the Russian journalist and it was very awkward. The journalist was trying to nail her but Olivia prevailed.
Dani this was always a beach contest. It should have kept the swimsuit competition, it was at Atlantic City a beach city. The appeal was too broad, the scholarship portion was relevant and always has been and it is not a "job". It becomes a job after it is won --for one year. I really liked Miss Louisiana she was natural and not a molded pageant competitor.
I follow pageants all over the world and I found this Miss America to be one of the most enjoyable in years with great talent and a diversity of contestants, talent, styling and looks. Yes the Q & A was too theatrical and rehearsed but they can improve on this. Red carpet does not need a speech at the end , instead they should give girls more time in evening wear. It is a shame that those who went the Miss USA route are so over critical.
I totally agree with your review, I’m so hoping that the local and state levels will act and will insist that the current leadership step down. Why was Cara sitting in the audience? I just can’t believe the organization is not acting aggressively to stop Gretchen Carlson and insist that she step down!!! These young intelligent women don’t deserve this !!! I totally agree with your review of the evening gown segment. What happened to the Miss America Song? What happened to the runway for her traditional walk as Miss America?
Wow I agree so much with what you said. I have competed in the Miss America program for 2 years now and was watching to see if this was something I still wanted to pursue. I was so disappointed in the show, it seemed choppy and not special. My favorite parts about competing is getting that moment on stage alone when you are walking and posing and feel totally beautiful. They took that away. I hope they continue to make changes and maybe listen to the competitors views this year. It's just disappointing when you find a system you love and it changes the things you loved about it. In all, I will always love and watch Miss America and am still debating competing this year. I hope the organization figures things out and can't wait to hear more about Cara story.
You're not alone. I've had so many girls reach out to me, asking about what it's like to compete in USA because they want to make the switch. I'm even getting new clients who no longer believe in the America program and they're entering USA state pageants, although they thought they NEVER would.
Gretchen & Regina... Anyone hope for a mean girls sequel? “Mean Girls 2 Miss America” Edit: They did Mean Girls 2, so if you guys have any ideas of the movie titles for mean girls sequels or any others, feel free to put them down
Everything you said was SPOT ON! ...what did you think of Miss Michigan being the only contestant during opening intros who turned from the usual upbeat 'I am Miss state, I attend x University, I am ...." and called out her state for something negative (albeit a relavent cause/platform) issue? ...I personally thought it was the wrong time and place and thatshe didnt even seem grateful or happy to be there. I guess I get it IF the contestants were told ahead of the broadcast who the top 15 were and she said 'screw it" and took that opportunity to cause awareness for her platform. But otherwise, I feel like her choice of intro potentially eliminated her chance at a top 15 spot.
During rehearsals during prelims she had a PC version for the pageant to hear. She said during makeup that she was changing it to be about drinking water for the live show. My niece is a makeup artist who was there and told me about it on Friday. A lot of girls were sabotaging themselves because they didn't want the title this year. Ruining the interviews and talent by making mistakes. Saying "um's and ah's", pauses to collect thoughts, sing out of key, etc. You got the feeling that they shouldn't have won at the state levels.
The Miss America pageant was a bit more glitzy in recent years to catch up with the times and it seems the new people in charge want to revert it to its prim and proper and less glamorous days. I remember watching the Miss America pageant, the year Elizabeth Ward of Arkansas won. It never occurred to me the women onstage were under the age of 25... especially the semi finalists. They looked like they were in their 30s. The contestants did the opening numbers in what looked like home brought outfits: They want to re-emphasizes that they are a scholarship program instead of a BEAUTY pageant.
I just watched the pageant here on YTube.... I missed the telecast☺☺... I noticed that the America girls we soooo busy with changing clothes.... too many wardrobe changes... They wore different outfits in different segments- Opening, peer-to-peer Q&A, red carpet (Aka evening gowns- they did not need to rebrand the segment....its the same thing hahaha), Talent, and Final Interview.... Five wardrobe changes in the telecast. Then they have to wear the gowns back for the Final results/awarding... Unlike in USA, Opening number, swimsuits, evening gowns l. Three wardrobe changes and thats it. For me the wardrobe changes in the USA system is better, because I have a clear picture of what the girl looks like and looking at the ladies in the gowns just makes me appreciate the ladies more.... And please bring back swimsuits...please please please.... The America System was all talk- I thought it was quite noisy the whole time.. LOLs😄😄😄... We had the same reaction to Nebraska's Evening Gown. I liked it though except for the nude platforms poking underneath😀😀😀😀... I remembered Sarah Summers' gown. Florida and Alabama's gowns were gorgeous... Those would look great for USA and Universe!!! As always, loved loved loved how candid and authentic your reviews are❤❤❤❤!!!! I just love these pageant review packages❤❤❤❤ esecially those done by you Dani👑👑👑👑
This is seriously an absolutely perfect and spot on review! I couldn’t have said it better lol! Starting with the intros... I seriously got “old navy commercial “ vibes. The red carpet bull crap was terrible! First off COULD YOU WALK ANY FASTER? like the end of that carpet was where to sign up for miss USA 🇺🇸 lol Seriously the pageant needs major help and I really think you nailed it with the styling... I really feel Miss Universe has always done a great job going as sexy as they can without going to far. After hearing your thoughts now I know why! They are trying to cater to those younger girls and make them want to become the next! That is so smart and , wow I never thought of it that way. But yeah, MAKES SENSE! Personally I wasn’t super happy with the winner , for no good reason either. Weird. I don’t know I guess I really felt the entertainment value was very low and by the end I was over it. That never happens with me either, pageants are an art form in my book. Great choice in the hosts but yeah next year I will skip it... thanks for the great video, always great!
hahahaha oh my gosh Joel! "the end of the red carpet was where to sign up for Miss USA" I'm dying at that comment. So much goes on behind the scenes in any organization. I know fans are always confused, so I'm really happy that I can provide clarity from first hand experience. Thank you for checking out this episode
I don't get how the people who said the swimsuit competition objectified women also say that women should be respected no matter what they wear 🤔 Pick a side! The red carpet part was very cheesy! But I saw this coming! Probably will get worse and eventually cancelled which sucks for true pageant supporters.
I recently saw that several states will not be sending their reps to Miss America because MAO pulled their license for calling for Gretchen's resignation. Looks like the beginning of the end.
I love the in-depth review. Everything seemed scripted, all I was waiting for was someone to yell cut. Miss America was always that girl who shined bright, someone who other girls want to be like. This 2.0 made the dream of a million girls a basic job interview, something they can do without competing. The modernization is definitely a good thing but stepping on the history and forgetting where it came from. No runway no song, was just disappointing. New leadership needed.
I kind of feel like if you have to discuss why something is relevant to the extent that they did, it's probably not relevant. The discussion of Miss America's relevance was flogged like a dead horse. In its entirety, I didn't enjoy the show, it felt incredibly rehearsed and honestly, I wasn't excited by it. It's such a shame for the women because they sound truly impressive, but I didn't feel like we actually got to know any of them. It felt like we got to know a pageant persona.
Why do most people refer to pageant contestants as "girls?" These contestants are in their late teens and twenties. Shouldn't we be calling them "women?"
Go woke go broke 🤣 SJWs are destroying entertainment! You nailed it when you said they’re not specific enough to have an audience. That about sums up everything wrong with Social Justice thinking.
Oh my gosh! You know what I'm talking about. I don't even know what it was for but it was very uncomfortable and unfair to her. That reporter came with guns blazing, for no obvious reason.
YESSS! I agree! It almost felt like she expected Olivia to have an answer to every little thing that was going on and that she expected Olivia to be able to fix it since she was Miss Universe 😬
Someone did that to me as Miss Montana hahaha. They asked what I was going to do about the fires in our state. I thought, "Hmm I don't know, maybe let the professional fire fighters do their job?"
I watched two shows as a kid way back in stone age days with 4 main channels. Every year as a family we would gather and watch The Wizard of Oz and Miss America. A few years ago I kind of started the tradition again, renting the Wizard of Oz for Thanksgiving, and of course watching MA. I also saw MA when I served many years ago in March Field in riverside. More recently, two weeks after we lost two of our guys in combat, we went to see Kira and it was the first time the boys smiled again. So, Pageant winners do have a bigger impact than most may think. To the military, she brings a little of home to wherever we are. As to this year, I thought it was a dud. I didn't care so much about swim suit at first. I lived most of my life in California and go to the beach and you can see beautiful women in bikinis. Besides, the older you get the creepier it may get to say, "Wow really liked the bikinis!" I was more interested in the effort to encourage fitness. Why not do a bikini plus how they stay fit? Nutrition advice, etc. Gyms are bursting full of people, thats relevance. To say you won't judge on appearance is stupid. Of course you will. All the women on stage the MAO stage were beautiful. If Gretchen was telling the truth, where was the varied looks? It was better IMHO to expand the idea of what a beautiful woman looks like, and allow different body types. But what matters most is how a woman, or how anyone, presents themselves and you see that in both bikini and evening wear. But I found myself missing the Evening gown more than the loss of bikini. I always decided on my favorite based on the evening gown. You expect Miss America to look beautiful on a red carpet or any event. She is a spokesperson. That is the job. Then, talent wasn't strong this year. Sorry girls. Don't want to be rude. But I didn't feel that. That really hurt the production. But my biggest take away was after Cara wrote her letter and then listening to former Miss America's, was I wondered where in the world they were going, and the answer is they don't know. On beauty, I could really only judge on a face. The questions were pre packaged. No surprise. Overall I would give it one more year but it was a yawn to me. What really got me though was the following day they had an announcement on who won and they showed a picture of Gretchen while announcing Nina. If Gretchen is in charge, the Pageant will fold in a year. I could really care less about Gretchen Carlson, she's pretty much a hack journalist and an embarrassment. Sorry what happened to her at Fox, but this is now. In the end I bet the most consequential Miss America will be Cara Mund. She produced the funniest moment of the pageant when she posted from the audience that she was "in the audience...watching Miss America..." I laughed out loud. I am glad you showed that. It was really funny. You can sense Cara has a great sense of humor. And MAO should be kissing her behind. She could have really went harder against them that would have hurt the pageant. I agree wholeheartedly though, you are right. They didn't seem like early twenty somethings. They seemed mid-forties. Oh well.
What a small world. I've known Kira for years. I crowned her at the NAM California Jr. Teen in 2007, we competed prior to that as well. I'm sorry about the loss of your friends. Their/your sacrifices are appreciated. This year the state pageants still had swimsuit competitions, which is why you didn't see a variation of bodies at nationals. I agree, they've lost true direction. Seems like they're throwing spaghetti on the wall and waiting to see what sticks, unfortunately that strategy is not going over as well as they would have imaged. I loved that clip of Cara too. You can see how sweet she is through her sarcastic humor. I don't think I could have handled the situation with such grace. In fact, I had a MAO prelim title and gave it back because I didn't see eye to eye with the state director. Titleholders enter into a contract which, must demonstrate consideration for both parties. But that was not what I experienced. I see myself as an asset for any organization because of my attention to detail and quality, if they cannot recognize that, then they don't deserve to work with me. It's a two way street. When it was made clear to me that it was their way or the highway, I gladly walked.
No way! Kira was a sweetheart and a great ambassador. Miss America including the state title holders are "ours" from the military viewpoint. They are a little of home and I have yet to see a tour where they appear that isn't overflowing. And OMG never say anything rude about them, it is like saying rude things about your sister. I just want them to know that they mean a lot to us, more than they think. That is why what happened to Cara was so upsetting. "You did what to 'my' Miss America?!" Thank you. But it is hard to say I sacrificed anything when others sacrificed everything. It was always such an honor to wear the uniform that it was enough. I was taught early only to do business with people you like and respect. Otherwise it is just a time of regret. You were spot on about styles etc. It seems that the organizers are getting older and bringing their styles and sensibilities. I couldn't figure it out until you said it. Then it hit me. I have two nieces their age and they never dress like that. They don't wear make up like that. And they don't talk like that, and one is a debating champ. I don't follow it that closely but it doesn't seem like Gretchen has any intention on leaving so I think the "contest" is done. If ABC bails, then its over and Gretchen will take a page from Trump's book and blame everyone else. I hate to see to fold.
The questions the top 15 asked each other appeared as though they had rehearsed it all week. The red carpet was too silly. missed the runway and not enough of Cara Mund.
I wonder about those questions too. At USA we're given a heads on regarding the topics of on stage question, but they're pretty broad. I'd love to know the process of how that part of show went down at Miss America.
Dani, I did not watch the Miss America pageant. Absoutely awful. What was Gretchen Carlson thinking? Gone are the days of Bert Parks singing "There She Is, Miss America". Now, its nothing. Gretchen Carlson failed big time. I hope that somebody like Fox would step up big time and give the Miss America Pageant some Fox attitude. One other question: Will be heading to Thailand in December to see Sarah Rose Summers hopefully win the Miss Universe title? Fox could use you big time as Social Media Correspondent. Thank you.
I miss that too!!!! I wish they'd capitalize on the nostalgia of the pageant. Yes!!! I plan on being there. Being a social media correspondent for Miss Universe would be a dream job. I really hope that is my reality one day.
DC works for Microsoft, She is a true “STEM” example. She was not even recognized in that category. Having a daughter who competed in NAM, USA and Miss America and was a volunteer for the past 30 years, in MAO, I can truly attest to the fact that all directors are different, as an ED in my early mid twenties forward, I always was fashion forward - I totally disagree with your analogy of that. The new program stinks. The production stinks and the new board stinks. Wyoming did not go with Gretchen’s Me Too agenda if you watched any of the preminary competitions. You are obviously more of a USA fan vs. Miss America. At my daughter’s state level - USA and MAO, the org is rigged and corrupt in my opinion. My daughter competed at NAM, and was a first runner up in the MIss Division and had to move to another state to get a fair shake in the MAO system. The Red Carpet, Personal Intro etc.. is totally NAM. MAO obviously took a serious clue from them. The onstage “personal intro” is NAM. Another item is quit comparing everything to USA! They are two very different systems. USA costs over a thousand to enter just at the state level, and as in the MAO system, they are not all created equal. That is not fair reporting - two very big differences! Re Cara - she was treated like garbage the whole week. She made several media interviews during the week that were against orders. She was placed in the fourth row for almost the entire pageant and give 45 seconds at the end. Gretchen should be removed for that alone. Obviously I am an insider - I favor MAO over USA due to personal experiences. NAM is for up and coming girls is amazing. My daughter competed at NAM as a state queen twice at Nationals and has collectively won more optional competitions with them than any other contestant in their history and loved competing there. She was involved in that system for 12 years prior to competing in MAO and USA (she grew up in the MAO system as my daughter). USA is a BEAUTY pageant and is very expensive and MAO is different and always has been. If you are going to be an armchair quarterback on this - keep the systems separate and be fair about it. How many locals or times at state have you competed at (in the MAO system) and what were your successes ? Just curious since you seem to know everything about how MAO works....
Ms Bandit awesome that she competed there and at Nam. Congratulations on all her success. I was a two time NAM queen too💕 I appreciate you sharing from your experiences. I think the Abelgas sisters made history with the most National optional title though. They’re pretty killer. For some history: I won every optional at state. Placed in each at nationals, as well as won some. I competed at 2 MAO locals. Prior to for first, I was messaged on Facebook, by another director who told me I would not win. She proceeded to list who would. To my shock and disappointment, she was right. I entered a second local because I believed I would win, and did. Shortly after my crowning I gave back the title because of an atrocious comment made by the state director about another contestant. I was absolutely disgusted and could not, in good conscious, work with a director or committee, in the event I won state, who held those views towards their contestants or queens. But... I still recognize the value in the organization and encourage girls to compete there if it’s the right fit for them.
Miss New York did not sing and perform actually opera on the stage. That clip of her talent was pre-staged. Was the clip really Miss New York then America?? Miss America, a few years ago, of Georgia...She was and is truthfully talented in opera. (Please do not argue with me on this point. I am a true practicing clairvoyant.) The final questions and answers at the end of the show were highly staged. Miss New York lacked poise as did other contestants. Poise is a very important quality of Miss America. Much of the show seemed scripted. Thank you. Bye. Was a fan.
I thought so much of it looked scripted too. I believe the lack of sincerity with turn off potential contestants :( It makes me sad because they're coming up on their 100th year anniversary, and the program is not as great as it could be.
I think fitness would be a great idea. Physical health is an important part of mental health, and it could be a real positive thing to promote a fit/healthy lifestyle :)
Gretchen Carlson reminds me of the villain pageant director Kathy Morningstar (played by Candace Bergen) in the movie Miss Congeniality.
Many would agree with you on that point
I heard that they wouldn't allow the previous Miss America to wear pink simply because she didn't like pink "gretchen hates pink?!" Like srsly, wut does that even have to do with inappropriately wearing things? Pinks just a color of dress...
I have no idea of that's truth or rumor but it sounds extreme.
Carrie Ann: 'Miss America is the dream job'
Dani: *sips coffee*
hahahaha
As Miss Oklahoma 2017 and competitor with Cara, I really appreciate your honesty! Cara is an amazing individual and so very strong. Thank you for continuing to empower our Miss America and candidates!
I agree with you! I feel for Cara and wish that she was able to thoroughly enjoy her reign as Miss America. I also noticed that they didn’t really show her at all during the show, except for a brief second at the beginning and at the end. Then, I saw her Instagram story..and realized why. #TheGretchWhoStoleSwimsuit
Love your recap videos Danni!💕
96GlitterGlam your hashtag 🙌🏼😂😂😂😂 yes very very sad about the whole thing. Cara referenced that she wouldn’t be featured during the show before hand. So it was no surprise but still disappointing.
Holy cow, I DIED when you started drinking the tea. That was perfect.
Athenna M. Hahaha 😂 thanks Athena!
As soon as I saw Nebraska I screamed. She looks identical to Sarah our current miss USA! Same style, hair style, hair color, state!!
Me too lol. I was like, "What is going on there?"
Kaitlyn Warden I missed the classic miss USA music when img took over. Probably licensing issues.
Dani Walker Ah yes!! I love the little things like that about pageants!♥️
Well said
I’m so glad you did a Miss America Recap Video
You said it exactly how I and so many feel towards Miss America this year👑
Thanks so much for check it out :D
I have literally been checking your channel ever hour today waiting for this video. I haven’t even watched it but I already know I am going to agree. Love you and your opinion!
hahaha yesss!! I had some editing mishaps this morning which delayed it. So glad it's fiiiiinallly up! I hope you'll still say that at the end hahaha
I saw Olivia's interview when she was in Russia and I felt like she was being asked to apologize for being pretty and a lot of other things. I became a fan after that interview. You look radiant!
First, thank you! Second, I'd love to find a link to that. I knew the interviewer was from another country, now that seems familiar.
Is this the interview? th-cam.com/video/T14mlPgeFAU/w-d-xo.html
Omg here is a video clip I just found th-cam.com/video/g_V7NNnl0I8/w-d-xo.html
Gretchen Carlson is a JOKE. Personally I wasnt a fan of the interview with the top 15. Many of the questions were too similar. Alot of my favorites didnt place in the top 15. Plus the talent many had similar performances and I got bored. Plus the “red carpet” competition had gowns done before at Miss USA and Miss Universe. Love you Dani ❤️
Voltaire Hortizuela I agree on all these points unfortunately ☹️ the show made me sad.
Nooooooooooo ways oh my gosh. I'd love to see that!!! Wow, just wow. I don't know what to say.
Dani Walker I’m gonna send you the screen recording via Instagram
Kenzie Allen you’re amazing 🙏🏼
Dani Walker I sent you the video and the link to the original post (sent from theofficialkenzie)
Kenzie Allen thanks for sending that over 💕
I agree with everything you said wholeheartedly Dani!
Thank you so much Ian, for sharing your thoughts and support. That's a great suggestion! I'll also mention sashes too :)
Yes!! That’d be awesome!! You’re such an expert on pageants!!
Btw the white gown Iris wore was Stephane Rolland! Same last name lol!
Thank you for this perceptive and well-worded review, Dani. "Desperate" is exactly the right word for the presentation.
Thanks so much for checking it out.
P.s. love the tea sipping...and omg you are so REAL! I love it! I love how your facial expressions just basically "say it all" for you lol
hahaha thank you!! Glad I could have some fun with it.
As far as opening outfits go, you nailed it. The girls were told that the theme for the opening number was Night On the Town, and they were to choose, pay for, and bring something to wear that reflected what that theme meant to them. Great assessment; I agree with pretty much everything you said. I also can't wait to hear from Cara.
ahfclass oh interesting! Thank you for sharing that!!
The audience that Gretchen is trying to appease does not like pageants. Dani is right. Know who is your target audience . Hopefully Miss USA system can learn from America’s debacle.
Yes, I hope Miss America 2.0 is a lesson to all pageant systems.
Miss America is trying to be relevant but their need for relevancy is not gonna work in their favor, and I’m afraid it will become irrelevant. I felt bad for Cara. Great video Dani!!! I completely agree 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Faith! I feel bad for her too but now happier because she's done. Now my concern is for Nia.
Dani Walker yes definitely. Hopefully some improvements are made, but I doubt they will be. Obviously sending positive and hopeful vibes Nia’s way
FaithYoho Vids yes, praying for Nia 🙏🏼
I did like the last questions. I felt like they were fair and related to the job. My favorite talents were the piano players and Irish dancer!! :)
This is probably my favorite of your episodes xD *sips tea*
Claire Shinn hahaha thanks Claire!!!
Hi Dani. Just realized you had a TH-cam channel. I've already subscribed. I love the way you talk, your arguments and reasons. The facts you described, you are right in all your statements. I can't wait to watch you making the Miss Universe recap! 😗😘
Julian Sánchez thanks Julian! I’m looking forward to sharing that 😄
I liked hearing your thoughts about the pageant - your look was adorable too!
Thank you so much Melanie
So not ready for you to give up your crown! Wish you could be Miss Montana USA forever 😭😭
Victoria Wejko aww :((( wow you must have some great perspective. I wonder what new changes are coming.
Hopefully nia gets better treatment this year!
hahah thank you! I really wish the best for Nia. She's a beautiful woman and will do an excellent job, if they let her.
The elimination of the swimsuit portion is to pave the way for trans-women in the pageant. Wait a couple of years.
Music Teacher Guy interesting! You could be right
nice video as always Dani! What do you think about Miss World?
TheMartindigo I don’t follow it so much but I’m excited to see them grow in the US by adding state pageants 😄
First time watcher, a straight white male. I appreciate your perspective. I subscribed and I hope to see more great perspectives.
ET2 Carbon thank you so much! I appreciate that and I’m looking forward to more recaps and reviews 😄
Speaking as someone who has watched pageants since a very young kid, this pageant overall was a hot mess.
Your commentary is spot on and me agreeing like I was in the Amen corner at church. At the end of the day Miss America is a pageant based on providing scholarship opportunities for young women to pursue their life goals and dreams
Finals night needs to show the outside world your best and brightest and why women still need this option for scholarships in 2018 & beyond. If Miss America 2.0 wants to change public perception then use social media & mainstream media the other 364 days of the year to show what Miss America does & how that work helps young girls & women from any background
Brian Moon the Amen corner 😂 love it. I agree and I’ve spoken to them about that but they have a ways to go.
: (
New direction? It's still a beauty contest even without the swimsuits. I noticed the answers from the contestants ended with a second or two of each other which told me it was scripted. I think one contestant went over 5 seconds. Overall, the start of the Gretchen era was boring and too political at times, also it's one thing to market certain women, but if the ratings fall by the wayside with the rest of us like it did so far (36 percent drop), Miss America will not be on primetime tv anymore.
It'll be a sad day if you're right and the 100th anniversary isn't televised.
You nailed it. I felt the same way about the show. Thank you!
Thanks for stopping by!
Sipping the cup with the eyes, so funny! 100% agree with every single thing you said! You should be the host! You “GET” it! All facets!
I agree, I should be on the board of some large and respected pageant system. I would bring changes the fans and contestants want. Maybe one day I'll have that opportunity.
Usually for past five years spectating the final televised Miss America competition, talent is least favorite part, however, some of this year's talents return impressed me like the one who did a dance to nice classical music, the one who recites a poem, and Miss Nebraska dramatic monologue on how life must be cherished in the monent because tomorrows not guaranteed for everyone (who are terminally ill especially with cancer)
I loved the beginning where contestants were divided into groups and said a word together like "independent, confident, etc" and the red carpet was cute but ya I agree couldn't they let them walk with more style than rushed?
I rate this new version of MaO competition a 8/10.
Thanks for sharing those positive thoughts Lena!
YES!!! THIS. IS. EVERYTHING! Spot on
Thanks Caitlin!
Can you please do an update now that Gretchen Carlson has resigned?
Nebraska has the same dress sponsor as well! Right here in Iowa! They looked insanely alike!
Kaylee Mason ohhh well that makes more sense then lol
Or maybe it was an insane coincidence lol
Hey Dani, great video. I was talking to a lady whose daughter competed for Miss Tennessee USA a few days ago and she kept saying how it was all rigged and that they already know who’s going to win.
She said that a week before the pageant they already had they’re top 15 girls on their website and most of them places very well in the pageant and that they give preference to returning girls.
I’ve never heard this from anyone else before. Can you speak to this a little bit?
Ginny oh wow! I wish I could speak on that but I didn’t personally witness this and this is the first I’ve heard of it.
Dani, you are brilliant , you are on-point and i couldnt agree more. Btw, i saw Olivia Culpo's interview with the Russian journalist and it was very awkward. The journalist was trying to nail her but Olivia prevailed.
Thank you!!! Go Olivia!!! : ))))
Mean Girls: Regina George and Gretchen? LOL it’s so fetch!
Yep, it was a bathing beauties competition :) I loved her too. She was charming with great spirit
I'm critical of all shows lol. I agree, they should have more time for gown. I love when girls have that moment alone on stage to shine.
What direction do you think Miss America organization should go?
Jill McConnell they need to identify their ideal contestant and market towards her.
I'd love to know where all those things went too. Miss America could be great again, if they celebrated it's tradition.
“Mean Girls 2 Miss America”
Edit: They did Mean Girls 2, so if you guys have any ideas of the movie titles for mean girls sequels or any others, feel free to put them down
Oh my gosh lol. Wow!
“Mean Girls Fetch the Swimsuits”
Here's another episode th-cam.com/video/g_V7NNnl0I8/w-d-xo.html
Everything you said was SPOT ON! ...what did you think of Miss Michigan being the only contestant during opening intros who turned from the usual upbeat 'I am Miss state, I attend x University, I am ...." and called out her state for something negative (albeit a relavent cause/platform) issue? ...I personally thought it was the wrong time and place and thatshe didnt even seem grateful or happy to be there. I guess I get it IF the contestants were told ahead of the broadcast who the top 15 were and she said 'screw it" and took that opportunity to cause awareness for her platform. But otherwise, I feel like her choice of intro potentially eliminated her chance at a top 15 spot.
kimberly raymond I thought it was pretty bizarre and not a great move as a competitor. It was uncomfortable to me 😬
During rehearsals during prelims she had a PC version for the pageant to hear.
Vlog of Miss Monatana USA 2019 OMG Dani Walker you pass this sunday !!😓😓
Kimberly Marie of course!
@@DaniWalker Yeah!! 😍😍😍
Love you, love this! 💓
Thanks Nerissa
You made some great points. Been a pageant fan since 1970. Have always liked Miss USA better.
Growing up I loved America. I though it was what I wanted, then I competed for them and boy was I wrong. I tried USA once and never looked back.
*insert clip of miss USA contestants literally screaming their name and state here*
LOL, contestants shaped and molded by senior citizens and retirees... so true.
True and tragic. Not saying there aren't some incredibly stylish nana's out there, it's just that they aren't volunteering for MAO.
Brian Samuel Bumatay thanks Brian! I’m glad you finally got to see the show. I’d love to see some consistency with their wardrobe too 😄
Why does the 2.0 stand for ?
HermioneOlogy I didn’t see anyone address that. I think it’s just meant to mean a new version of the pageant.
This is seriously an absolutely perfect and spot on review! I couldn’t have said it better lol! Starting with the intros... I seriously got “old navy commercial “ vibes. The red carpet bull crap was terrible! First off COULD YOU WALK ANY FASTER? like the end of that carpet was where to sign up for miss USA 🇺🇸 lol
Seriously the pageant needs major help and I really think you nailed it with the styling...
Pharoh B “I was waiting for someone to yell cut” 🤣🤣 It was that bad 🙈
Oh my God you look so amazing
Wow!!! Thank you. I really appreciate that, considering that I filmed this right after I'd flown in from an exhausting trip to NYC.
Totally agree with everything you just said
tetrulz jam thanks! Appreciate you stopping by :)
Kitty good point!!! They’re absolutely incredible but the production didn’t celebrate their accomplishments.
They’re going in a new direction alright, that direction is down.
Sloe Bone that was clever 😂😂😂
I agreed with you on the evening gown 100%
It was heartbreaking to watch :(
My mom and I were yelling at the tv for them to slow down. I was so sad too because I knew that all of those girl wanted that moment for a lifetime.
Why do most people refer to pageant contestants as "girls?" These contestants are in their late teens and twenties. Shouldn't we be calling them "women?"
WOW!
This was quite a review.
Wade Wiggan 😄 review/rant 🤣🤣
@@DaniWalker you called a thing a thing, and that's all that needs to be said 😉

Go woke go broke 🤣 SJWs are destroying entertainment! You nailed it when you said they’re not specific enough to have an audience. That about sums up everything wrong with Social Justice thinking.

At this point, swimsuit seems like the least of their worries lol
Good Review.

Thanks for stopping by!
I saw that interview with Olivia Culpo about a year ago and it almost made me uncomfortable. I felt for her.
Sorry Dani, if you don’t fight the fire yourself, then you can’t be Miss Montana 😅🤦🏻♀️
I must have overlooked that part of the contract.
I agree with EVERYTHING you said!
Kiara Tiara thanks Kiara!
right on POINT!
Thanks Steve!
"You did what to 'my' Miss America?!"
Thank you.

@@DaniWalker Thank you. When will you give up your Miss Montana USA title?
William Dunphy Sunday my journey comes to an end ❤️👑
@@DaniWalker Thank you.
So sad to see Cara in the audience 😭
Very very sad and disappointing to see :(
STILL IN THE AUDIENCE...WAAAAAYYYY BACK THERE! YEA... SHE WAS BEING PUNISHED!
: ( sad for Cara
dethrone the gretch who stole swimsuit! She's disrespecting the contestants, and the viewers who've supported them.
We Don't Need Another Miss America From New York.
Christopher Walters hahaha there are quite a few!
Gretchen made Miss America a joke.
The best thing is that ratings of this contest dropped by 36%!!!! Continue with all sjw agenda!
BTW I don’t know your age and if your pageant days are over. Hope you try out for other systems.
I'm 28 lol. I'm all aged out. I'm happy that I reached my goal of competing at Miss USA, and I'm ready for new goals.
Miss America 2.0 is a great big NO!
That pageant was not rigged. All lies!
Let's just say, we expect Nia to step up and tell us the honest truth, #gretchenhastogo
I wish Nia the best this year. I'm hopeful that they can still turn it around.
I was about to say...back off Ms. Bandit...but looks like you didn't need my help because your revealing statement had no reply...
Only watch Miss USA and Miss Universe. ...Miss America is so boring.. People still watching this? lol
I couldn't help myself from tuning-in. I have clients within the Miss America system, I had to prepare them for what's ahead.
Hated the opening as well. And yes way too desperate. Well said.
It was so sad to watch : (
Agree 100%
☺️ thanks!
Dani, Thank you so very much for your honest agreement. Means a lot to me!! All the Best, Jeffy
Age is a factor 19-29 would make a difference. Old debutant attitude
They should do fitness to be “ different “ that’s big business now athletic wear
I think fitness would be a great idea. Physical health is an important part of mental health, and it could be a real positive thing to promote a fit/healthy lifestyle :)
