Hi Rene. Thank you for a GREAT talk about phase. It is trivial at some points, but presumably for each person that will be different points, and even for skilled engineers there are some sections that one will find enlightening.

Thanks a lot. Yes, a lot of this is basic stuff, but it is often what is being discussed the most on forums, so I tried to strike a balance here.

    Great video!
The Kii speakers you used for your loudspeaker phase audibility experiments utilize a Seas DXT tweeter which exhibits relatively high directivity. Great for home theater. Lower directivity and greater lateral reflections are typically preferred for stereo reproduction ( Toole, F.E. “Subjective Measurements of Loudspeaker Sound Quality and Listener Preferences,” 1985 J. Audio Eng. Soc., 33, pp. 2-31.).
If you repeat those experiments with low directivity speakers (no tweeter horn or waveguide) in a typical listening room, your phase audibility results may be different. 😁

Thanks a lot. Yes results will probably vary. The listening environment was pretty much a workshop or garage, and so it would be interesting to try out it somewhere else. I tried to stick purely to the theory but it is a fun little anecdote that changes how I look at phase.

Thank you for this session, it clarified my understanding of phase! Did you find out the title of the test track, which you are talking about at the end of the session? Cheers :)

Thank you. No, but I should try to find out, and Lars Risbo has offered to ask for me ;-)

Thank you@@acculution. Also, I will start my final thesis in audio technology soon and want to research about subjective hearing of objective loudspeaker parameters. Do you think it is still relevant for research to investigate hearing phase or transients in psychoacoustics?

@@kastner27 Could be, since some of the studies so far seem somewhat flawed. I think it is easy to construct a study that shows no effect of phase being important, but also simple enough to construct one that does. And perhaps you can trained somewhat to hear phase.
