New subscriber here from Indianapolis. Great video sir, looking forward to the next. I just picked up a red Troybilt self propelled with grass bag. the quantum Briggs & Stratton engine. cleaned the carburetor and cleaned it up all around. paid $10, will probably sell for $110- $120.
Fixing up and flipping lawn mowers is a great way to get some extra money, I have a few mowers stored away until spring that I'm going to flip. It's currently winter where I'm at in the US, great video!
I had a mount field/briggs years ago the wheels are crap but everything else is brilliant, bought a Webb 14" 2hp B&S engine dosnt need any work at all. Looking forward to seeing the difference with a cylinder blade. Thanks for the videos.
Martin What a bargain mate on Facebook in my area you do no not get any mowers close to enough to go out collect in and they always pricey this a nice mower Phil in stoke
You got a old van in the corner that you could pick lawnmower’s up in. If you get your finger out and finished it. My youngest is getting married this July in the Uk. I was going to make you a offer on the van that you couldn’t refuse. 😂
Mowers must be worth less on the mainland, I repair mowers in northern Ireland and a non self propelled one of those, the hp470, is £100 all day and the sp470 is £140 all day. I don't know if it's Brexit or covid or what but if you look the price of new mowers has gone up a good bit the last year or two as well. I've noticed fewer other mowers for sale on marketplace or gumtree when looking as well. Demand is high and supply is low. All last year I asked 20-30 more for any mower than I would have the previous year, and they all sold easily. Make sure you're asking for enough money mate and don't sell yourself short. Your mowers are always nice and fully serviced, ask top dollar.
The Ethanol is hydroscopic (attracts water) so when you store your tools, they attract water in the fuel systems that can cause blockages, It also is said to damage rubber so gaskets might suffer. I've not seen any difficulty in starting my mowers though.
I had a Mountfield probably older than that one and there were far too many plastic components that kept breaking. The car was a nitemare with probably a dozen springs and I couldn't see what they did.
Great video Martin. is E10 ok for that mower ? will it not damage the engine parts .E5 not beter for it . I think E10 is OK in Mountfield as long it dosent sit in it for more that 30 days .
Hey Martin I've been waiting, it seems like forever now to see you finish that antique lawnmower you started to fix up a couple months ago. What happened to it? I'd love to see that big old girl start and cut some grass!!
Hi Martin, thanks for the video, I'm just starting to get into lawnmower repair. Where do you normally buy your filters, spark plugs, diaphragms etc from? Thanks
What a touch getting that for a tenner! Nice job cleaning it up

Question for Martin : When you have bought , serviced and restored a mower, where do you dell them ?

Yes, good point, I do tend to under charge so i'll change that this year.
Hi Martin do you know if this E10 petrol is bad for our strimmers lawnmowers ETC as mine are struggling to start cheers pal Dave from Burnley

Great flip Martin. I just wish where I live here in the desert I could fine mowers as often as you.
Yes Dave, I'm pretty lucky here
Martin what spark.plugs do you use on the briggs and stratton classic 35 engines please
Ngk B2LM michael is the norm or an equivalent.
Thanks martin
Don't know if you mentioned it or not but those air filters need to be oiled before install, great video BTW.
Not necessarily they'll do the job without.
@@lewispewsey6843 oh yeah they will, but they run better with the filter oiled.
I never oil them
where did you get you lift/jack service table from? can seem to find anything like that around

Great video Martin. is E10 ok for that mower ? will it not damage the engine parts .E5 not beter for it . I think E10 is OK in Mountfield as long it dosent sit in it for more that 30 days .
Its a basic engine that can run on virtually anything.
Hey Martin I've been waiting, it seems like forever now to see you finish that antique lawnmower you started to fix up a couple months ago. What happened to it? I'd love to see that big old girl start and cut some grass!!
I have to get the engine out. It won't be till the summer.
@@retrorestore ok mate cheers. I'll keep an eye out for it. I was really looking forward to seeing that start!
Yea and the magnito may need replacement.
Hi Martin, thanks for the video, I'm just starting to get into lawnmower repair. Where do you normally buy your filters, spark plugs, diaphragms etc from? Thanks
Ebay or Garden Hire Spares website
@@retrorestore great thanks I'll take a look.
Only use genuine briggs diaphragms Chinese ones are useless and ngk plugs only
@@loll1974 cheers, does that also go for air filters and governor springs?
@@loll1974 Yes I agree bud
