I’ve looked for that one but they don’t distribute it in the state I live in 😭. Next time I go to California I need to go liquor shopping. Good suggestion!

Hi. This has different proportions from the recipe I've been using in your app. Reason? Enjoying the videos and the app, which I use most every day. Thx

You're spot on. And the reason is this drink is not that good if you follow the exact original recipe. But it's popular, and people want to make it, so I tried to modify it to be much less sour and get that iconic blue hue for the one in the app. I try to get a little closer to the original recipe in this video. The real recipe is 1 part lemon juice, 2 parts gin, 2 dashes maraschino liqueur, and 2 dashes Creme de Violette. Parts and dashes are not really quantifiable volumes, so these are just best guesses. The original (even if you do 1 oz lemon to 2 oz gin, or 3/4 oz lemon to 1.5 oz gin) is so sour with minimal flavor, and almost no one does the original recipe for that reason. I try to take myself out of the recipes as much as possible, but with some older recipes, that can be hard. How much is a "dash" of a viscous liqueur? Even this video's recipe is slightly less sour than the original. This is closer to the 3/4 lemon to 1.5 gin, but I did 1 part lemon to 3 parts gin (which results in the same amount of gin but a tsp less lemon juice) and just assumed a dash of liqueur to be around a 1/2 tsp.
I've always struggled with this drink specifically because I want it to be good and look cool, but to do that, it needs to be changed a bit. This video's recipe is much closer to the original without being too sweet and not so darn sour. And it still tastes pretty good. This is the recipe I will use when I update the app.
I'm glad you like the app and videos! It kind of blows my mind that people use it. I had a hectic year last year, but I plan to add many more recipes this year. I already got 40 new ones done and just need to finish getting pictures to add them. Any recipe you would like me to make a video of or add to the app?

@@VintageAmericanCocktails I agree the original recipe from the book is way sour. Were people's tast different then? Or was maraschino sweeter for a better balance? Who knows, right! No Dr. Who here to help us answer. As to new drinks I am almost strictly a gin man so any new gin cocktail would be grateful. Dry or Old Tom. It's impossible for me to find Genever in Phoenix so that's out. Also, I try to tell friends and acquaintances about your app, that they gotta download it. Grateful for your work. Cheers

@@scottsims9506 thank you! I’ll try to get it updated with some new stuff soon. Gin is my go to too and old Tom is fantastic. I’ll make the next couple video gin cocktails.
