- It seems like all the news you hear about TH-camrs now a days, or ever, is bad news. Whether it's a new scandal, controversy, or bit of miscellaneous drama - it's a LOT. It can be very disheartening as a Creator to never see the good from our industry be recognized. I'm not looking for praise, but I want to take the time to recognize what my fellow Creators have done over the years to give back. From PewDiePie to Markiplier, Jacksepticeye, Super Carlin Bros, Mr. Beast, and so many others, TH-camrs (and Twitch streamers too) have done SO MUCH GOOD! Today, I want to spread all the good news with you.

It's their opinion, and they aren't aware of what being a TH-camr actually is. One thing in making gaming videos in TH-cam is that you need to make your videos entertaining enough for the people to enjoy. Even though, attention is what makes a TH-camr famous. Basically there seems to be some kind of manual check that allows or disallows a video to go viral

What hes saying is irrelevant to why gamers are lower tier influencers though. Charity is irrelevant. It's all about the ad revenue and business generated. Gamers and their audience dont interact with ads like other people in different genres. Gamers are generally younger and have less money than people watching other forms of entertainment. This is why ad cpms for gamers are lower and why a lot of companies dont put their ads on gaming channels.

The problem isn't advertisers. The problem is the dinosaurs of traditional media who are ready to pounce on any story that could hurt TH-cam, online influencers, and social media platforms that threaten their existence. Advertisers could care less about what negative/positive things happen on TH-cam, so long as it doesn't hurt their brand image. So if you want to change advertisers' minds, you have to change traditional media; and good luck with that.

In a recent video, misophonia was mentioned and described in a first-person recount. Sure enough, I did my research and realized what I was dealing with was valid and had a name. I honestly felt like sobbing in relief because I finally figured out what's wrong with me, and what litterally haunted me for my entire life. TH-cam really does give hope, recognition and in some cases answers.

It's Old media vs New media, and advertisers want to pay less for adverts on TH-cam. They're not interested in the TH-cam "scandals", they just want to save some money. That's why they're willing to make stuff up about TH-camrs and usher in a new adpocalypse just to get a better deal on the platform. That's what's actually going on. This is also why I decided to pay for TH-cam Premium. I'd rather give money directly to TH-cam and TH-camrs, to keep this whole thing going, than have the whole platform rely on the money of these terrible advertisers.
That's not true. A TH-cam ad seen by 5 million people is a FRACTION of the cost of an ad on live TV seen by a few hundred thousand people.

They're keeping that cost down by constantly pulling their adverts from the platform every time there's a "scandle" in order to get TH-cam to keep their prices low or lower their prices further. These advertisers are making a killing on TH-cam compared to traditional media, and everyone on this platform suffers as a result - the creators, and the viewers too (because more money for creators means more/better content for you).

Matt. You don’t need the press. The reason we watch TH-cam is because we found a community that cares about us, that looks like us, that is curated by us. Honestly, I haven’t look at news sites or watched TV in so long. TH-camrs are loved because they haven’t been “pressed” and made “safe.” The people sitting in the high chairs don’t understand that, and are trying to modify things in a way that they think will bring the flow of money. It’s always been about the people we get to choose, support, and watch, not what’s fed to us on a constantly playing TV.
I hope that this all works out and they money you deserve comes back to you.

I'm not a gamer, but I also agree, because I see the effects of these events and PR influence all communities, especially niche ones. I have witnessed many of my favourite channels withdraw from youtube or reorient themselves towards more mainstream/easily digestible/clickbaity stuff. And it makes me sad.

It really crushes me that TH-cam is falling apart little by little. And most of it is because of Advertisers. I thought TH-cam was a place where you can truly be you. And this is getting ruined by people who think that TH-cam is a place of laziness & sloth.
Why I am feeling down about this is because I know my favorite TH-camrs are doing such a well job on doing everything they can to make the world a better place. Heck! Even better than Ad's!
And... Like I said... A majority of people are not accepting it to the fullest. Even other companies.
I really love TH-cam. I have been dreaming to be a TH-camr for years now. I feel like TH-cam is the only place where you can show who you truly are... And if people & critics don't like who we are right now. All we have to do is just... Prove them wrong. TH-cam can bring people together. Along with it's amazing TH-camrs. And if you are planning to be a TH-camr one day... Then reach for that goal! Show the world who you really are!

Here's the thing. TH-cam was fine when it competed and was seen competing with traditional television, both cable and broadcast. Safe Harbor provisions made it untouchable. But as soon as it was decided that TH-cam was going to be working for television networks instead of competing with them, that's when these things started to happen. This advertisement situation is a carry on effect from that because those same advertisers wanted the same bland, safety that television has been beaten into providing.

TH-cam doesn't stand up for its creators, and the advertisers know this. Advertisers walk all over youtube because youtube lets them.
The advertisers pay for it.

I don't think this is the time to be taking shots at TH-cam. TH-cam is fighting public peer pressure from its advertisers and well-established opponents in the public. They are trying to maintain this environment while also keeping financial backers from turning away. Hell, they're fighting against significant changes in the EU from Articles 11 and 13. Yes, they screw up, over-correct, and unknowingly hurt their communities in their efforts to stay afloat as a company, but I believe it's all in an effort to self-sustain so that they can keep this platform, this hub, this community, alive.
You think it’s TH-cam holding creators hostage, but it’s the advertisers holding TH-cam (and thus literally EVERY creator) hostage. As time goes on, we only find a more and more common enemy.
@@alexsiemers7898 TH-cam lets the advertisers hold them hostage. TH-cam should've told the advertisers from the start to f off. Do you think they are going to advertise on Bing or something? Lol! Advertisers might leave for a month or so but they will always silently come back because they know TH-cam is the #1 platform to advertise on. TH-cam should have more confidence in themselves and not get bullied by the big bad advertisers.

It is just old media afraid of new media, and rightfully. I talked with my friends (we are all in our mid to end 20s) and literally no one of us is watching TV anymore. Why should you watch TV when you have TH-cam, Twitch or Netflix. There is better, more fitting for you entertainment and you can decide when to watch it. While TV tries to produce something which "everyone" can enjoy, but we are all different. And then make it 50% commercial to get money out of it, and you have to change your plans to be at the right time in fron of the TV. Believe Television is dying. And "old media" knows that too, and right now they still have more power then new media so they use this power to try to keep new media small but the change is already happening.

Or if nothing else, we do what many others before have done. We wait them out. We simply wait for their way of thinking to wither and die.
Most days, TH-cam is my channel surfing, Netflix and Crunchyroll for movies and tv and Google is the commercials I get which eventually leads to amazon and other online stores. 9/10 I'm watching my shows on my phone whenever I have a few minutes. Old Media is shitting itself every day because as people born in the last 10-20 years grow up and have buying power, aren't bothering with getting cable or satalite when they can have an a la carte tv/movie experience tailored to what they want and for way cheaper too instead of being forced into getting basically a smorgasbord of stuff they aren't interested in and are never going to watch.
I also didn't want to rant but here we are, lol!
Old is getting old, and the new Stuff is just straigt out better than the old! Thats why most of the old goes away! Thats how it should be!

No matter how many people think of TH-cam as a horrible place that no one should care about, I will always love this platform because sometimes I feel like I don't belong in this world, so I thank creators like you, MatPat and also the entire Cod zombies community that gives me something to enjoy and be apart of, I'm glad I found this platform.

The short way of saying it is that times are changing. Actors/musicians/news outlets don't want TH-camrs to be on the same level as them. They want to be the top dog. The thought is that to set a TH-camr equal to an Actor is to raise the TH-camr's standing but lower the actor's. They're the old way of doing things and they're scared of being replaced by TH-cam. Actors fuel a good portion of the media and to knock them down is to hurt the media. So, the media runs a campaign to lower the standing of TH-camrs. Why target the gaming community though? Well, because it's both the biggest and easiest to target. It's not hard to convince most people from older generations that watching people play video games, when they already view video games negatively, as a waste of time. After all... Why waste time watching a video on something you could do yourself? It's in their best interest for TH-camrs to fail. It makes it so that they don't have to adapt. They don't have to worry about some random person with a mic and enough time to do research to be able to threaten them. As such they only share negativity about TH-cam which scares away the advertisers. By scaring away the advertisers you kill revenue for your opposition. Thus ensuring the old way of doing things stays in place.
TL;DR: Media/actors/musicians are scared of TH-camrs upsetting the current "fame hierarchy"

Just like how our ancestors from the 1930s viewed television as being a theater/radio killer. At the same time, we shouldn't just stand back and watch this. We need influencers like Pewdiepie, Markiplier, among others to help us drive forward, literally killing these old farts with kindness. We need to push back against them, in much the same way television pushed back against theaters and radio industries.
