I admit I was a bit worried for you, I've followed you for years and love your sailing and Maya's music, can it be so that the effing Danes has conned them to fill their tanks with schnapps instead of water? Because Swedish waters are full of very hard rocks and these poor darlings don't know where they are anymore.. But now I'm calm and the abundance of rocks explains perhaps the zigzag course...Hmm...
That speedboat at 8.30 - virtually no wake! I could spend years exploring that region, it looks unique and very special, and you capture it with true artistry.
All this sailing around the West coast of Sweeden took me back to the Time I was on a delivery of an FPSO to Hinna near Stavenger 24 years ago. The little island and the deep water that Ships can get in and out in. and little Sailing boats dodging Container ships and Fairies. and Yes the Cold North Winds go right through you up there. Fantastic Guys. You were really Hooting along there at one part. Magic Carpet really flies. Kiaora.
Loved this, and I sincerely wish you always manage to maintain this sweet balance of being successful enough w the channel that it allows you to do what you love whilst maintaining the size/anonymity that gives you freedom. All the best in 2023.
Im a one on one person also. Your lifestyle matches you. Filming/storytelling, sailing, one special person close by, projects, music. Crowds can be overwhelming, even small ones. Lovely 2023 intro. Stay small, stay special.
I was at the boatshow at Ellös, and also at the show in Marstrand, so we almost bumped into one another :) I also recognised that busy place in the end. 3 years ago, me and my girlfriend found ourselfs there, tired after a long day, homebound in our newly purchased boat. We sought night shelter in the harbor of Fiskebäck. Lovely to follow you and Alladino from the Mediteranian , to my own homewater. Best wishes for 2023
Majas look when she walked into "the next workshop" and Aladino was so keen to see the next little detail ! Exactly like my wife looked at me when I went into the tight corner of the next wooden house in a Norwegian or German museum. Happy new year and all the best for 2023!
One compliant, too short 😊Thankyou both again from Jane Southern Australia. you are my Saturday morning ritual.. Summer here and 37 degrees so lovely contrast.. Save travel
Welcome to Gothenburg, hope you liked the stay. Sorry u didnt film the Marstrand castle and ruins. Been there too many times. Had my boat in the next marina to Saltholmen, which is called Hinsholmen.
you ought to come to the Norfolk Broads, here in the UK, the wide rivers are the size of your narrow channels, some rivers there is barely room for 2x 12 foot wide boats to pass (thank goodness for the reeds at the sides) and encountering a race may mean 40 or more boats all over the river (stick close to the right bank as they are supposed to treat you as the bank, leave a gap and you may have boats coming past both sides (6" is seen as a miss and perfectly adequate room), then there are the bridges, a good sailboat crew can drop the mast and shoot the bridge with the residual speed, and have the mast back up less than a boats length past the bridge, its a wonder to behold, also when they get it wrong.
I agree; I live beside the Waveney river close to Breydon Water at the entrance to The Broads from the sea. There are over 150 miles of navigable waters to sail with no locks! Come and see. We’ll help you discover the secrets of these waterways.
Love your poetic descriptions Maya.. and when you told of the boat on the rocks I thought when you said " Element of"...and didn't think of the word . I thought "demise" might have been fitting to insert instead of "surprise" ..
Love that you capture the special feeling of sailing in calm protected waters, whilst being vigilant for rocks, and the wind angle. The absence of large waves or an ocean swell, make for a relaxing yet focused experience.
Greetings from Vancouver. I have been able to steer a boat about the size of Magic Carpet wing on wing (no preventer) in the Gulf Islands by watching the wave pattern on the water rather than the masthead wind indicator without gybing. It is fun and easier on the neck. Glad you are enjoying Sweden. - Earl-
Another inspiring installment. The music and editing are so well done. Thank you, guys, for the great work you do in sharing the adventure of life. It's been great, although I confess I'm really looking forward to the continuing refit of Magic Carpet II, and of course, the future sailing with her. Take care!
Really nice to see the Halberg Rassey yard, they are very busy building boats which is also nice to see. I bet Aladino had eyes on swivels looking around there. Also beautiful scenery music and filming as always, makes your episodes very enjoyable to watch.
Great episode! Love the boat yard and all the high tec equipment they use in manufacturing. So very happy for you both, I look forward to every episode!!!! Calm Seas. Rob
Yours is still my favorite sailing channel, of more than a dozen that I follow. Sweden looks like a magical place to visit, as I watch your adventures from the PNW.
I used to travel to Gothenburg on business. Winter can see thick thick ice in the harbour! Winter is coming! When I was there they were constructing the galleon Götheborg replica. It was huge. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid.
Excellent boat designers/ builders in my Netherlands country asides, HR has been a favorite for some 40 years or so. It's very nice to see in your video where they are with CAD/CAM that facilitates series of 1 with a lot of component re-use. What struck me was the (sort-of) waterline level walk floors around the boats in progress. I wondered if folk were working under that too, when necessary. Well, happy '23 and great video.
Nice trip in the bestcoast of Sweden. The normal way to wild dock to an island is bow to land, and the anchor from the stern. At night you can pull the boat out a meter or two. Then you have no problems with the tide or if the wind change a bit.
Through and through a very lovely sailing adventure. You two are always charming and sweet. The boat show was interesting, and of course, Sweden is wonderful.
Hope you have the chance to continue further north on the west coast of Sweden, it gets more beautiful up north. About the rocks, we say there are two types of sailors, the ones that have hit a rock and the ones that are gonna hit a rock in the future... 😁
Thankyou Aladino for your views and I had to laugh again when Maya found you in the "hose" room.. haha very funny. I love your passion and interest in your field it's really refreshing.. I did wonder if you had to drag him out of the workshops Maya? haha
When it came to touring the workshops, my wife would have just left me alone, probably for hours, then put up with the tears afterwards for things I don`t have. Also that Vindo 22 was a sweet looking small boat.
A lovely video. Thank you for sharing your moments with beautiful Scandinavian coastal sailing. Wing on wing, or "the hymnbook" as we call it in Finland, is fun and challenging. I'm only doing it in light winds with my 28 footer, as I can just push the boom back, if it starts gybing xD
Hello you two! Thanks for another beautiful epsiode and greetings from Canada. We are long time followers of your channel. This episode was lovely in many ways. Much of the scenery you have featured in Sweden reminds me of Canada... The Canadian Shield of Georgian Bay, the Muskokas and Northern Lake Superior and also the Gulf Islands of BC. Our sons learned to sail on 420s in Montreal, so the race scene was a sweet memory of those years. I will restrain myself from further comment now. Maybe one day we will meet at a marina, and we can say hello, no selfie required.
Such a nice episode i really hope you explore more of the coast in the next coming episodes since the coast change character north of Lysekil. I enjoy every minute
Sailing in Sweden where you are reminds me of a more tranquil Narragansett Bay (in Rhode Island) right down to the seaweed you showed in the beginning. For really grand waterfront homes you MUST sail to Newport, RI and sail along the "Cliff Walk" and see the "Newport Mansions" many of which are now museums, from the ocean. Also Jamestown is beautiful with gorgeous water front homes with docks in front which is just a few miles across the bay. Newport, RI was the first major port before Boston and New York in colonial days. It is steeped in history and to sailors it is still thought of as the sailing capital of the world as the "America's Cup Races" started there in the 1850s and were held there until the 1980s when America lost the race for the first time. Go in September or October so you won't be too overwhelmed by too much activity on the waterfront. It still may be the sailing capital of the world if measured by the number of sailing enthusiasts that have boats, boat restoration work, and sailboat racing there, the number of sailing oriented events still held there and the near perfect sailing conditions there most of the time. The New York Yacht Club also has its only other location in a mansion on the rocks facing Newport Harbor in Newport,RI.
Love 59 North, Andy & Mia are my hero's. I geeked out when they pulled into Grenada with Isbørn, I was like a fan-boy. They are true sailors and evangelists for this way of life. Please post the location & timing of the podcast.
With my Choy Lee Offshore 31, I had vang connections on both decks, so I can fix both sails in rigid position (pole on the Genoa) for wing on wing, no chance of jibe… if you are heading offshore, deck vang connection points allow you to survive getting thrown around without the sails also getting thrown around…
I can understand & relate to that and I would be the same, I'm a small intimate type as well, I get it, hahaha I was laughing out loud as watching the start of this video I thought "WOW! that's alot of people for you and Aladino to navigate as your lifestyle is so removed from the day to day and more solitude and nature focused. Then add adoring fans haha it must have been a very "new experience"
Happy new year 2023 and thank you for the great journey in Sweden. It seems to be a beautiful area for boating. So many islands, isolated places to stop by and protected waters to sail quietly. I didn't imagine the swedish coast was so gorgeous and calm.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you're nowhere near the Baltic Sea just yet as these waters between Denmark and Sweden are called the 'Kattegat' ;-) Great footage and narration as allways - TY 😀
Beautiful views. Watching RAN II, cruising the Swedish Coast, this video had familiar views. Yet untiring the beauty of the coast always inspires oneself. The tour of the boatyard was again truly spectacular. Happy New Year and enjoy your well earned cruise.
Happy New Year and thank you for letting me visit the HR yard. I owned a beautiful 1980 312 Mk1 that looked like new after many years. Quality always pays off...
Question on structure boat repair on magic carpet. With your first sailboats--you walked us through all the work done to repair from the boat falling. Thank you. Have you had any new issues that has occurred from your initial repairs. We are looking at a boat with hurricane damage and we want to gain a perspective if fixing it properly will be enough for long term sailing. Will the repairs stand up to wind/wave stress.
Depends on the damage and how it will be repaired. I am very happy with how I have tackled ours and it is 100% holding up. And we have given it a pretty good shakedown while surfing at 12knots.
Tiny connection, I lived in Colchester, Essex UK, and in a local auction I brought a mostly plastic bike, very odd for that area but it was made in Gothenburg.
Wow what a nice journey, nature is really nice out there. My plans to sail over there are only become stronger by watching this serie of video's. Which charts you 're using to navigate true the smaller channels? Navionics ? Soon both of you will has to go undercover to not be recognized 🙂
I would love to meet you in person. But I'm in the Interior of BC and not close to the salt chuck. Maybe if you go to your home town I could meet you there. I have some friends in "The Crick" that I haven't seen in a while. Thank you for these vids. Lovely as always.
I really enjoy your site. I am confused though, this Scandinavian voyage was during the summer of 2022. It is winter now 2023. Where are you wintering? When do you switch over to the larger sailboat? Keep safe, travel while you can. Gary Sylvester. Oregon USA.
A little correction Maya. You said you were going to the Baltic sea. But it is out at the Skagerrak and Kattegat sea. Not the Baltic sea. But it doesn't seem that you went out to Skagerrak and Kattegat in this part of your trip while you started from Vasholmarna and I think I recognized you passed by Gullholmen and carried on down to Marstrand. That strech is more or less inside the protected archipelago. The Swedish archipelago is amazing. Thanks for the beautiful video.
As a regatta sailor, I can definitely related to that upside down Laser! Beautiful video as always, and keep up the great work. Hearing Aladino talk about sailing tips felt like getting advice from an ancient oracle, and y’all’s commentary is always top-notch. Keep up the good work, and if I may I have a bit of a strange question: It’s mentioned a few times that Aladino is Swiss, and I recently went down a rabbit hole in terms of European Conscription Laws, so what path did Aladino take with Conscription? Did he go for standard conscription, or Civil Service? I know its a weird question, I was just curious knowing that Aladino was Swiss. Either way I can’t wait for the next one! Fair winds, -J
Hey Swedes -- okay okay, we get it, we weren't in the Baltic haha. Please forgive us, and enjoy the rest of the video :)
I admit I was a bit worried for you, I've followed you for years and love your sailing and Maya's music, can it be so that the effing Danes has conned them to fill their tanks with schnapps instead of water? As born in Bohuslän and learned sailing in Kattegatt it hurts to hear Baltic sea. But I’ll forgive you this time 😁🤗
Sweet memories. We sailed the West Swedish archipelago in 1999 the same places you visited. And your videos are waking these memories.
Wow just beautiful, not what I think of Sweden looking like and awesome to see , Thanks for the tour

i subscribed to your channel.
I appreciate the integrity held by both of you on the magic carpet.
Amazing sailing in Sweden! Very cool to see the Hallberg Rossy shops, I could spend all day checking that place out

As Always Thanks so much for producing!
Thank you for sharing again ❤
Thank you. Looking forward to next week. :)

Just found you, with magic carpet 2. Love the vlogs. Thank you

The nice thing about rocks is that they tend to stay put. Not like shifting sand bars. Sailing Sweden does look to be quite special.

You always make me smile. Beautiful, entertaining video as always.
Interesting glasses you have on, had too check them twice, and...thought they were Welders goggles, Lol am I BAD.
Yours is still my favorite sailing channel, of more than a dozen that I follow. Sweden looks like a magical place to visit, as I watch your adventures from the PNW.
Fantastic, these last two videos, Sweden is really beautiful. I loved it. Thanks.
Some of the scenery in this video looks much like our pacific northwest.

Iconic coast sailing amongst the rocks. So many sights hidden among you make the call to come near. Must check out your friends podcast.
Thanks for sharing . watching from Canada ...
The sea outside Gothenburg is not the Baltic Sea. It is Kattegat:-)
: ) ...beautiful ...thanks for all the fun !!

The man, the wind, the tiller. So easy to see that Aladino is in his element and happy as a sandboy! Happy 2023!
Great video, getting colder there soon.
Great video you two! Always enjoyable to watch.

Thanks for a great episode its fun to see and hear your perspective on our homecountry
Another top quality video. You are so good at this.
Once fishing cottages for some of the poorest people in Sweden, now million dollar summer homes for some of wealthiest. Funny how that works.
As always another enjoyable video 👍. Love your videos. Keep up the great work 👍☺️
Very cool. Greetings from Brazil.
Nice to see you finally reached the waters your boat was built for. Enjoy! And a Happy New Year!! 🎉
Being in Gothenburg and all, I think you should have fixed Aladino up with a little eye liner and mascara.
Thanks
Thank you so much Brian!
Lovely video as ever. Such an inspiration! Happy new year to you both! And Magic Carpet too of course;)

I recognize that boat. It belongs to your friend. (?) It looks really cold. Brrrr.
Much as I like your Vindo if I was to choose between a Hallberg Rassy and her, sorry Vindo.
Happy new year en thank you for this episode lov it

Hi guys, another wonderful video as always :) Just curious, is the line zip tied to the bimini used to direct water into a bucket or water container?
Turing a workshop is not for everybody, !!! we see it on their face but they survive.
As a regatta sailor, I can definitely related to that upside down Laser!
Beautiful video as always, and keep up the great work. Hearing Aladino talk about sailing tips felt like getting advice from an ancient oracle, and y’all’s commentary is always top-notch. Keep up the good work, and if I may I have a bit of a strange question:
It’s mentioned a few times that Aladino is Swiss, and I recently went down a rabbit hole in terms of European Conscription Laws, so what path did Aladino take with Conscription? Did he go for standard conscription, or Civil Service?
