PAKISTAN: CARETAKER PRIME MINISTER MERAJ KHALID PRESS CONFERENCE

A week after the removal of Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, disenchantment is growing with the caretaker government and President Farooq Leghari who dismissed her.
They're seen to be failing to take corrective measures, or to charge Bhutto or her husband for alleged corruption.
But at a press conference caretaker Prime Minister Meraj Khalid has promised to bring to justice those responsible for any wrongdoing.
A lack of action on the political front has brought widespread criticism from politicians and newspapers of the caretaker government led by Meraj Khalid, a veteran of Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party.
The new caretaker Prime Minister and President Leghari have also been attacked for their failure to come forward with any concrete reforms.
Although Bhutto's husband Asif Zardari has been detained for "certain investigations", no charge has been filed against him or any politician or senior official.

"We have formulated a principal of accountability. Whoever is guilty, whether that be Benazir Bhutto or Mr Nawaz Sharif, as I said, shall not be spared at any cost."

President Leghari is being slammed for the choosing his brother-in-law Mohammad Zubair as commerce minister in the caretaker government.
Bhutto's three-year-old government was dismissed on November 5th by Leghari on charges of corruption, nepotism and mismanagement -- and immediately replaced with a caretaker government.
The caretaker government has promised to make known charges against Zardari, and a comprehensive law to investigate charges of corruption against politicians is in the works.
A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headed by Paul Chabrier, director of Middle East affairs, will arrive Thursday for fresh negotiations aimed at strengthening the previous package prepared by the ousted government of Benazir Bhutto.
