A lot of high end communities actually have rules regarding what kind of exterior you can have. How much green vs concrete can you have in front of your home, what kind of exterior finishes you can have etc. Some even go to the extent of deciding how much Christmas lighting you can have. This is mostly because the every house on the block contributes to the overall value of the neighborhood, so essentially the home prices of every home depends on the value of the their neighbors. Which means everyone should present pretty much the same aesthetic to maintain the value of all homes in that area.

This is a teardown rebuild, with full Miele and Wolf appliances on a big lot, detached, nice area in Oakville. Houses that are older and not rebuild near it are listing for 1.8m+. There is no way this is going to be anywhere below 3m, if not much more. People citing 1.3m are probably looking at the price before the rebuild.
Actually, by definition a home should always be more open than a warehouse. If a warehouse has windows, multiple doors, skylights etc then it won't be a ware house at all. A warehouse is meant to store goods and goods unlike humans don't need natural light and ventilation whereas humans do. At any rate, homes in US, Canada, Australia, Europe etc all have large open windows etc that open to the road, it is an accepted practice over here that people won't peak inside. If you want more privacy you can always put up curtains or blinds.
