    We used nearly a decade old Makita 10v NiCad drill drivers at work when I was in high school. When I bought my first drill in the early 2010's I went with Makita. Nearly another decade later, I still use it all the time. The longevity of Makita is top notch.

    In 2011 a Chevrolet Corvette made 436 hp, and was a mid 12 second car.
    In 2021 it’s a low 11 second car and it comes with 495 hp.
    That’s an improvement, of about 12 percent.
    This Makita improved by a similar marking as well.
    So therefore it passes the Corvette threshold of improvement test.
    🙂

    I didn’t realize brushless tools have been around that long. The way they are marketed you would think they are a new innovation. Good to see you old Makita is still so strong and runs perfectly on a current generation 5ah battery. (And there’s another marketing gimmick: You must have the newest tools with the newest batteries to get the full power and take advantage of the latest tech! But you proved that is not so, at least with Makita.)

  • @willng34
    @willng34 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    The lag test result was surprising! One can assume pretty much all of the newer tools’ improvements are mostly marketing.. buy the tool you like and use it til it breaks! You don’t need the newest stuff to get the job done

    I found this always with fake tools - there is always a problem with power. Huge problem. This vidro was what I really was expecting. This is a correct test. Thank you.I bought the fake tools and couldn't do the job because of duch a bad power. Its not only true with impact drill but all kind of fake battery drills.
    Fake drills are good only for home casual use.

    Having owned Makita, Dewalt and Milwaukee, in that order over the past 16 years, if I had to pick a single one to use, Makita would be it, easily. My 16 year old Makita till this day continues to be the most comfortable, reliable and smoothest in terms of operation. The batteries are also still going strong, which is much more than I can say with my Milwaukee batteries, with which I've had a handfull just die being less than 2 years old, light use.
    It's hard to compare the latest among the brands to determine which is "better", but I believe in real world use, speed doesn't matter as much. I believe what is more important are ergonomics and reliability. If you're in the trade, these are extensions of your hands, and ergonomics extend your health, and reliability makes you money (ie. you don't need a new tool every few years). Makita takes top spot in that regard. But end of the day, use what you love, as long as it gets the job done, pick the one you enjoy the most! Best/better is all subjective, each tool and their owner lives a different life

    Just picked up my Makita XDT16 and Hammer Drill combo set today on sale from HD for $329. I enjoy using my Milwaukee M12 impact driver for HVAC service applications but I decided on the Makita 18V as my commercial HVAC and installation driver because the impact driver has two bearings in the collet compared to the Milwaukee Gen 3 M18 only having one.

    • @PhillyFixed
      @PhillyFixed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ImranAhmed-fm9zl I believe mine shipped from Japan. As someone who's sold to foreign buyers on eBay, they make the process pretty fool-proof. For example, I shipped to some eBay hub in Kentucky and they took care of the rest as far as international shipping, customs, etc. As a buyer, that should just be built into the shipping costs if the seller is offering shipping to the US on their listing settings. Shouldn't need to manually pay customs or do anything extra.

    There is an XDT12 which was the flagship model before the XDT16. It’s extremely similar though. And as releases go it’s highly confusing because the numbers are all over the place. The new subcompact is called an XDT18 lol. In Japan it’s called a TD157. The 172 is worth getting as well. I love it. Glad to see you’re a Makita guy. I am too 👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻

    Makita Is always about smoothness and control. They may not be the biggest or the baddest (sic) but they will go the extra mile, and still be running when others have failed. I have used almost every impact made, and I always come back to a Makita. My first impact was a NiCd 12 volt DeWalt, circa 2000/2001? Good little gun, but crappy batteries. Hitachi Triple Hammer is good, and I have a place in my heart for my M18 Surge. A Really good little impact, deserving of better ergonomics. Good and very interesting test Jim! Stay safe and Healthy! It's true... compared to, say, Milwaukee... Makita isn't a speed demon, or power monster, but at the same time, it isn't coming in last on too many "speed tests". That said, I use the Makita XDT16. It has more than enough power to get the job done, has terrific ergonomics, and doesn't over-heat under heavy/frequent load (at least in my experience). It's expansive multi-speed settings make the XDT16 suitable for even the most delicate projects.That a Milwaukee driver can seat an 8" lag bolt in hickory a few seconds faster just doesn't matter to me.
