  • There are so many times that I work with driver that do not know what is going on with the handling of the kart. They don't know if it feels loose or tight. In this video, I do my best to explain what to look for to understand the feeling of the kart. With this information, you will be able to better understand how the kart is handling and how to improve it! Thanks for watching! LIKE and SUBSCRIBE

    Not necessarily describing feeling grip but I describe it as dragging a pencil eraser across paper when it comes to how grip and speed relate. The harder you press it against the paper the more its gripping. Therefore the more power it will take. If two people had a way to measure the force they were exerting and they pushed their pencils across a sheet of paper the person pushing the least (less grip) would get across the paper before the other.
    Thats my favorite way to explain to people who don't understand the concept of to much grip.

    Hey Ryan a video on setup changes to make a go kart more free would be awesome, I had a weekend where my kart was insanely overstuck and I couldn't figure out any setup changes to help free up the go kart to be competitive. It would really help if you could explain what changes to make when the kart is getting overstuck.

      @@NorbergNation Yes please. Excellent video, Ryan. We have a USAC young driver driving for us here in Sweden that loves your content, and will do well to learn how to gives us feedback for chassis adjustment. Going through front and rear ride heights, front and rear axle/wheel width and front and rear tire pressure adjustments, as well as rear drive gearing would be perfect places to start as basic chassis adjustment intro content - especially for younger drivers wanting to learn how to understand what chassis adjustments will do to help them as they learn to give feedback to their mechanics.
      Stuff like axle stiffness, etc could be a next more advanced step in a little series of chassis adjustment content.

    THANK YOU! The hopping is probably the number one thing around here that my new drivers don't know what to do with. I think a great part II of this video is some of the things you can do to change this. I will sometimes have drivers try a "slightly" different line (just off the rubber) to make sure it's the track and not the kart or how they are driving. What are some of the other things that you would suggest?
    These pro-tip videos are great because they will sometimes cause me to revisit or rethink how to troubleshoot a problem(s). Sometimes I get stuck in a rut (pun intended) with giving canned/generalized answers.

The overgrip particularly in my last race really got me. Had a great engine but that bucking cost me a first place from a pole start. Couldn't keep any higher than 5th.. Now I've got the tools to analyse it and better words to describe it than "fucked or not fucked lol.

    The thing i am struggling with is that i don’t really know like the maximum grip a kart can have, if it oversteers i don’t really know if that is because of my chassis or my tyre pressure or just because that is the maximum grip a kart can have. I also don’t really know what brand of tyre is best on what track or for all the tracks or weather and the also just the tyre pressure at what temperature and stuff so maybe an idea for a next vid i don’t know if you already made a vid about that topic or not but maybe an idea for an upcoming video but all the tips you are giving are really great i learned more during covid stuff than during the 4 years i have been karting for so you’re absolutely amazing and thank you for the great tips 👍

Wouldn't say boo hoo to anyone otherwise, only because they're somewhat good at karting, they get on their high horse and have no respect or morals when on track. I'm more of a say it to my face kinda person, not aggressive, but if there's something to be said, don't do it when you're out of reach kinda thing. got a massive lack of feel at the rear when trailbraking, it’s like the rear drives on ice and then when you kiss the throttle It oversteers like hell
    so one could say it’s entry understeer and exit oversteer, the lack of track time and testing is killing me as I haven’t got too much time. Have you been in this situation? I have heard the HERON frame is tricky but I’m kinda lost now, will swap a very soft axle as a last resort but what would you do in this situation?

The next race in a different kart that felt very loose (I spun out 3 times) I posted even better lap times! I was dumbfounded when I saw I was in second place. Is looser better than tight? It seems when a kart is a bit squirrelly I drive best. Any thoughts?

    • @NorbergNation
      @NorbergNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the free kart is better for low horse power engines. The kart probably felt on rails because it had a lot of grip. The problem is the grip is overpowering the engine. If the kart is not on the limit it probably has too much grip and it’s slowing you down

    How much delta / % of pace would you expect to lose if a kart is over gripped and keeps hopping around a corner? Had a session this weekend and my 401R just kept jumping around the corner and the pace was just disappointing and frustrating - like you mentioned it's slow overall and I could not carry much more speed into a corner. I've never been off the pace by such difference and now I don't know whether it's the kart or me..

    • @NorbergNation
      @NorbergNation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be quite a bit of time. The reason is because it is not just hurting the handling of the kart but it can be hurting the performance of the engine as well. On a driving side, if the kart is every too grippy, try and drive into the corner harder and harder. That way you can use all the grip that the kart has.
