Aside from the price, what a car! Cupra got the design and styling of the Formentor absolutely nailed! I don't think there is a bad angle! Great video, Joe.
I love my formentor VZ3, great car. This editon at 60k is silly, there are new RS3s sat on forecourts for less money. Shame the VZ5 hasn't come to UK

Well, manufacturing has changed quite a lot. It's not the same "cheap" Seat as it was before. The Seats are the same you get in the RS3, RS4, RS5 and RS6 Performance.
And looks better than anything for that price as I have one (Not tuned)

Basically a jacked up Golf R for £60k. Infreakin’ hate the state of the new car market these days. Ridiculous pricing
I thought hmm £60k for the 2.5l 5 cylinder audi engine.. okay, but turns out it’s an overpriced 4 cylinder.
Wish we got the 5 pot version, although I'm fairly certain this handles and feels better due to much less weight in the nose, also only 30hp down on the 5 too!
But it doesnt have the 5 pot sound Joe@JoeAchilles1

Really enjoyed the review Joe! The car looks great on the road as well and the seats look very special. Take away the questionable paddles and your pretty much set with the power/style/handling and braking which ABT offers. Cool that it is a dealer approved thing which would also make things more seamless on insurance as it is an OEM model I presume which you can just select? Anyhow, great stuff and looking forward to hopefully meeting up in April for a film 👍

Should have just sold the VZ5 with the 2.5L over here.
Looks good, but personnaly, and as a formentor VZ owner, I spent 1/4th of that ABT package money for a stage1 + DSG tune + short springs+fitting+geometry. Hard to beat ... anyways, that formentor looks great and I really like your review, and all of your reviews in general

Yes you can but remember you still have the SEAT factory warranty on this car plus the seats, wheels and brakes will cost you the price of the ABT cars uplift of £9k, it’s actually not bad value (for the kit, and may be the car)
@@jamest5149 I agree, good point indeed for the warranty. I would pass the wheels though, and the "normal" bucket seats are nice enough in my opinion. Looks great all black I have to admit :)
60k is a lot for a seat but I love the styling of this car 👌
May as well get a slightly used vz2 or vz3 for 30k
I agree and then carry out a Stage 2 or Stage 3 tune with appropriate hardware for £5-£10k and end up 450+bhp Formentor. ABt stuff is always way over priced.
RSQ3 or X3M40i is a better bet.
Great video Joe. Would be interested to see the comparison to a Tiguan R. As for the gearbox on this formentor have you try turning all the assists off after putting it into manual mode to see if it changes gear still? Worth a go. Only say this as my old F10 530D would change in manual mode automatically until I switched off the assists fully after selecting manual mode and sport.
Sat in the Formentor, love the look, the colours etc, have to say though, I was disappointed by the cheap plastics…I’m guessing I’d get used to it but sure did feel like a step down from what I’m used to…

A good review thanks,.. I have the VZ3 and I think the range should have a low key body kit - perhaps an extra vent or two - to indicate that it's the performance version.
Excuse me, but what is a Formentor VZ3? From Germany, I only know the Formentor VZ 2.0 TSI with 310PS 4 Cylinder and the Formentor VZ5 with the 390 PS 5 Cylinder.
I had the previous Cupra R ABT the one you reviewed a few years ago, people going on about pricing I agree. Mind you, I paid 31k new for and sold it two years later with 21k miles for…. 31k. So can’t complain!

Do you know if it's possible to get the ABT parts individually? Can you get the wheels and suspension on their own?

How it feels down the low range rpms torque wise compared to the regular version without the ABT pack? I also question if the torque curve changed and get some more torque below 2000rpms as it would normally have the max torque value before.
Eying an 2nd hand VZe for a daily. Love the looks of it.
Pay the extra and buy the x40i with a wonderful B58 that will go on forever.

Another great video! Joe, I'm confused how Mat Watson got a 4.31 0-60 in a VZ2 on a damp test road, and this 9k upgrade has somehow slow it down?
This is an insult to Brits, and for 1 reason. The Formentor VZ5.
This is basically a slightly modified Formentor. Why did they do that instead of bringing the VZ5 with the RS3 5 cylinder to the UK. Why waste 60k for what's essentially a T Rock R with a stage 1 remap and some front brakes. I would assume that to buy a stock Formentor and get it to this level would be cheaper than to buy this one. The only upside to this is that it's all from factor which means warrenty won't be affected. But still, go to Europe and get yourself a VZ5.
Simply because the Ea855 is sacred and limited in Audi’s books so only reserved for the rs3 and rsq3s, which are by the way stopped being able to be ordered in the UK due to supply issues😅
Just get a new used VZ3 for £43k (one in Autotrader) and put proper maps, an intake, lowering springs and better brakes on it and you have 400bhp with a better DSG map and a car that will do sub 4 seconds to 60mph. Alternatively buy the ABT one new in Autotrader at £55k with £5k off list!
I have 190 horsepower version - I don't miss power and infotainment is alright IMO. The thing I complain about Formentor is a road noise - I have no idea why reviewers are not talking about it?
Great video as always Joe. Thank you. I think for the money, people are better off spending £15k less on a second hand Audi RS4 Avant with its 2.9TT and pocket the change to invest or go on holiday! 🤪

Apparently the new special edition GR Yaris models will be £60k, standard models a bargain at £45k!

Problem is you only get less for that money since vag and the rest want to get the money they lost on their fraud off the customer. The 7.5 Golf R has a more premium interior than a 50 mk8.
I bought a 1 year old Model Y Performance (mainly as a business expense) - and I have to say for the same money I’d rather have the Tesla. I miss the noise but the Tesla would destroy this in almost any situation. I also only paid £44k. £60k is ridiculous!

ABT usually use piggyback ECUs, from what ive heard they dont seem to hit the listed figures sadly going waaay under just like those bullshit tuning boxes, at least on the diesels like the s4.
I'd rather go for the X3 M40i for that money can't beat that B58 engine and much easier to get in and out of.
For the same money can get VZ5 5-cyl version
I have a 310 and it’s quite annoying that this isn’t offered as a dealer fit and manufacturer approved set of upgrades such as Ford did with Mountune.
Not sure about 60k, on autotrader there is one going for £39,000 with almost 7000 miles on it.
It doesn't have all the upgrades on it, it doesn't have the upgraded ABT seats
The only version of this that makes even some sense at this price point is the VZ5....and even thats pushing it.
I looked at these when they first released and ended up going with an RSQ3 instead.

@@pauldavies7251 that’s exactly the point. The cupra in my opinion doesn’t warrant a 60 grand price tag whereas the M2 does, far more special than the cupra too. Seats and other little bits aside the performance can be had with a tuning box for a few hundred pounds. Cupra not even in the same league as an M2 yet it’s M2 money!
That 60k m2 will be 20k in a few years choose wisely
@@marcust123 guaranteed future value after for years is just under 34 grand. Got it for 59 grand. Every car is going to tank in value, just buy a nail and drive that if depreciation worries you.

Probably not as there will be only 160. The last official ABT Cupra, the R ST Leon, were around £31k back in 2019. Five years later you'll still pay around £28k and that's if you can actually find one.

Cant really compare the formentor to an X3 the X3 is in a totally different planet. For starters the boot on a formentor is awful comparatively speaking. It's a class below car . Madness price .

I swapped my cupra for a mk4 megane rs, it is too capable and gets boring where as the meg 4rs is perfect for road fun and sounds better in my opinion.

The M2 is 2+2 Coupe and this is a proper 4 seat SUV, with a tuning company upgrade.
Also, the RRP of a base spec M2 is £66k, let’s see what’s the discounts on this might be in 12 months !

@@paulcs2607 the deals are out there mate shop around you can get close to 20% off. I have a good relationship with BMW dealer and change my car regularly so I get very good packages.
Hopefully they have fitted the 60k cars with a steering wheel that wont need replaced 🤦🏼♂️

so joe tell us true you like love cupra company you need see around the world only say positive best for cupra and no need proof vz beat audi vw brothers and is first suv vs vw vs audi never spin no matter rain or snow this vz never never spin thanks to Haldex Gen the best n the world is mother of antispin system and dont stuck on paddles you can easy fix that or just buy only with exhaust akra and nothing else and is be little cheaper and later you go tuned upgrade this suv beat any suv of category trust me.

9 grand is a bit of rip off, you could get more work done independently for that money. People who are chasing figures are more likely to do that n void the warranty. Feels like a bit of a pointless option. Used to really like these but you see too many on the road now, theyve really lost their charm. More common then mk7 & .5 R's nowadays.
