This is the best video that explains simply wtf I been trying to find. Everyone else just be showing off or over explaining stuff for 45 min w promoting plug ins.
Just started to learn how to make beats. This is by far the most helpful video I've seen man you did such an amazing job explaining everything. Can't thank you enough bro!!
Sometimes I can get it off quick, some times I gotta take the time to get more in depth but I'm glad this was helpful and convenient. Thank you for watching 🙏🏾
IDK when I'll get to that but The diminished chords tutorial and the secondary dominant vids are modulations so you may wanna check those out, they're on my music theory playlist
I have a question. I wrote some chords by emotions from other channels. but I don't know what scales are they??how can i find the scale of the chords??
That's too much for me to explain in a comment, I may have to do a video. But basically, assume the first chord is the scale. For example, C minor chord = C minor scale. Go through each note in the scale and see if all the notes from the other chords are in that scale. If they are, then you're good. If not, find another chord that you feel may be the I chord out the progression, assume that chord is the scale and do the same thing. If everything except one chord matches, or even if the chord looks funny, it may be a modulation of some sort (a borrowed chord that doesn't belong in the scale). That's advanced but check out my music theory playlist of any of this confuses you.
Flat = b. Flat is one semitone down. The way to remember that is to think “shit that’s flat lies down” so you know flat = down. Sharp is the opposite, sharp = #. Sharp is one semitone up. So to give you an example. Look at the D note and look at the E note. That black note in-between them is D sharp and E flat. There’s no difference other than which one you choose to call it. But for reference, FL studio only shows sharps (#) so that will be D sharp always in fl studio.
Sorry. I’ll go into more better detail. In most cases, finding out the relative scale is only necessary to: 1. Determine what scale you want to identify your composition as 2. Determine what scale you want it’s best to identify someone else’s composition as. Examples. You’re composing without looking at a scale, you’re just laying down chords and Melodie’s. An artist, engineer or producer may want to know what the key (scale) is for whatever reason. You use the formula to figure it out. You see it has all the notes from a major scale but it resolves to a minor chord and everything moves like a minor chord progression. When you understand chord progressions it’ll make more sense but it’s completely a choice and the best choice may be to label it in the minor key. Even if you’re just trying to understand the chord progression you made, you’ll have to find the scale and decide if it makes better sense in major or minor. Same applies to understanding other peoples music. It’s not always necessary but it’s knowledge that can help you in situations like the ones I mentioned
BRUH, after all this time, i thought when dealing with scale helpers, we were suppose to be on the dark notes. thats funny as hell i been doing it wrong all these years and 1 video taught me the correct way. thanks bro i subbed
Hey man new sub ! Thank you so much for giving out this knowledge allot of other "producers" claim to do walk-throughs but don't even take the time to explain the way you did I really appreciate it !keep doing yo thang broski
Another man, can I do what u did in this video and same it to the sampler and get it reopened in my upcoming projects as well so I wouldn't need to re-do it???
Short answer is no. Timbaland doesn’t have much music theory knowledge, incredible producer. The longer answer, you need at least a foundation if you ask me. You gotta have an ear to know what’s on key and what isn’t. You can struggle to find that out or you can learn scales. You can also use loops & samples but your 808s still gotta be in key. I could give a million examples on that but just to contrast, Quincy Jones, the neptunes, Scott storch etc, all know music theory. And even though Timbaland and some other industry producers don’t know music theory, it’s always present in everything they do, all music. Undeniably. But no, you don’t NEED to know it because as long as you know rhythm and how to stay on key, that’s a good foundation and there are ways around music theory nowadays (scaler, unison midi chord pack, any midi melody pack, samples, collabing, arpeggiators, etc)
REally good explanation, I still feel like me and many others just are not understanding it. Music is kinda like advanced math some are good at it and some just dont get it.

my fl studio shows flats instead of sharps. like f sharp is g flat for me. can i change it or am I cooked?
Can I apply this knowledge to GarageBand? I’m a beginner and I’m using GarageBand as a starting point.
This is universal. You can use this on any keyboard, any DAW, writing sheet music and yes, garage band
@@MelloDeeBeats Ok, so with all of your music theory videos, I can still use them in GarageBand??
@xzaviorbankston yes

how did it help you
I think for some reason FL have made the helpers option so complicated now :') any chance you could do a new video addressing it?
Helpful video bro. 🔥 But I got a question.
What is for example, E flat in the scale? I’ve been struggling to know the difference.
@@MelloDeeBeats let say, one sample is played in Ebm, which scale is that?
@@yung_rez8756 e flat minor. So you calculate the minor scale from E flat. m is minor. The lowercase b is the symbol for flat.
Much love 👌🏽
Vice versa, appreciate you
How do you open a standard piano roll in the fl studio? When I open mine, I can only draw with kicks or snares or whatever is in my channel rack
Lost me on explaining relative scale purpose
Sorry. I’ll go into more better detail.

Awesome video, thanks.
All this time I didn’t know you could highlight scales with a simple tool. 😅
It's even easier now with the new FL studio, they have features where you set the scale and itt will only allow notes in the scale
Legend man. Just stumbled across a gem of a channel. Much appreciated 🙏
