  • Here are some of the vehicles driving though Brighton on the approach to Madeira Drive upon completion of the journey from Brooklands. Approximate times: 11:50 - 13:00 on Sunday 12th May. I hope you enjoy the sights & sounds of these wonderfully presented historic vehicles.

    Lots of these trucks I remember as Matchbox-models in my childhood. 🤩 This was the time when cars had a soul!

      I'm sure the model cars of that era made us appreciate the classics we see today. Makes me realise just how well proportioned Matchbox, Corgi, Dinky, etc were, particularly when considering they were designed to be toys and played with. Vehicles certainly had more character some decades ago.Thanks for your comment by the way.

      Pinking engines, 4-star going straight out the exhaust, and a diesel fog from buses and taxis that made your eyes smart.

      ​@martinhaskell376 theirs an f10 driving around near my work. It's owner operated. He used to have an ERF but I'm assuming it must have needed work and wasn't economical to repair. Or he fancied a change...

      Thanks for your comment. Have to agree with you. I'll have to try to cover as many commercial events as possible in future. All sorts of vehicles are coming out now, every show seems to bring something new.

      the leyland octopus was the 1st shell mex and bp vehicle i drove in 1970 at my 2nd interview and driving test for the job as h g v mechanic . great vehicles .

    DLK 125 C, was laid up at Bristol's Eastville depot for years and I remember it well!

      The run started from Brooklands Weybridge in order to avoid any ULEZ issues for the participants and their support vehicles. Glad you enjoyed the video, it's great to see and hear these lovely old vehicles.

      Yes, looking at old photos and films it's easy to forget that these old trucks often had quite striking colours & livery.

    Its great to see all of these vehicles many of them attend motoring pageants unfortunately this year's one at Bromley has been cancelled due to the Ulez extension i will be going to the Enfield pageant this Sunday the 26th of May on RT 1702.

      We have to enjoy these vehicles why we can. Legislators are killing off everything, slowly but surely. Looking forward to my next nearest HCVS event, which will be the Sevenoaks to Hastings run at the end of the season. Thanks for your comment, I'm amazed at the number of viewings and comments I've received on this one. It gives me the incentive to concentrate on the commercials a bit more when I go to the various heritage and historic vehicular events.

    Wow what a good video. Us up north need this! - On a 'Then and now' page I'm a part of in my local town, it took us ages to locate what kind of vehicle it was at 4:42, nobody could figure it was post office telephones! beautiful van

      Thanks for your comment. HCVS have another three road runs lined up though I'm not sure how far "north" you refer to. June 2nd Tyne Tees road run, June 16th Ridgeway run [wherever that might be], August 4th Trans Pennine run.     now 75 .used to work on the old leylands , scammels , fords, etc ,etc . mechanic then driving class 1 for a change ,35 years in total . for shell mex and bp .then bp.

    Well done for navigating (surviving?) the M25 closure that weekend and the gridlock it caused. I suspect a lot of vehicles, and drivers : ) came close to boiling.

      Thanks for your comment. I did hear some of the participants referring to the M25 issues but I don't think the delays were too horrendous for them. It was lovely and warm in Brighton and I noticed a few trucks with open doors whilst sitting in the stationary traffic. A lovely event and a pleasure to see such well presented vehicles.

    I didn't realise FL10's, Scania 1 series, Ford Cargo's and ERF EC10's counted as historic!! I've driven all of those, so what does that make me??!! Wish I'd kept my C reg DAF 2800Ati Spacecab now.

      I understand what you are saying there. I go to historic car shows too and don't quite grasp that Cavaliers, Sierras, Granadas, etc are drooled over classic cars now! Never-the-less, it's great to see them all out and about. Have to say, what I really admire about the commercial following is that they take such an effort to keep their vehicles period correct as much as possible.

      Such a lovely sound, old diesel's idling! Glad you liked it and thanks for your comment. The 3-wheeler is a 1953 Reliant 750. Have to admit there was a good selection of vehicles at the event. Although I didn't catch everything on the road I believe I've shown everything in my other video with them all parked up.

    That's the goodness of white people the kept vintage vehicles for the new generation to see . But most of us black people in africa we took them to scrap but we had them in africa

No doubt the vehicles of yesteryear were scrapped by their 1000's at a time they had finished their period of service, and would have been almost worthless at the time. Just by some fluke of chance and luck the vehicles we see today have survived, and could tell their own fascinating story. What amazes me is the standard to which a lot of commercial vehicles are restored to, in particular trying to keep them as authentic looking as possible. All the best to you.

    I wonder if Brighton and Hove City Council will be issuing fines to all those participants who used the bus lanes (those turning right in front of the camera) instead of the main road. I hope not, it would spoil the day for those who dedicate their time and money keeping these vehicles going.

      @@DomingoDeSantaClara No problem, a quick online check confirms that there was indeed a Whangarei Fruit Farm at Liss, Hampshire. This 1916 Ford Model T [marked 2] is probably authentic to the farm.
