For those of you curious why Mitsurugi is young again and Sophitia is alive, they're doing an MK9 style retelling of the series with this game. It takes place in the 16th century again and will be an alternate history retelling of the first Soul Calibur. Meaning that everyone from Soul Calibur 1 thru IV are eligible for the roster since those games take place within a 4 year span. SCV characters are all likely not returning at all due to their ages except for ZWEI (his age is unknown) and possibly Viola (her age was listed at "24 Tri-Colored Stars").

Sophitia has been my favorite since Soul Calibur 1 on Dreamcast. I'm glad to see her so soon, she was in the back seat for some of the others.

Hoping you guys dont disappoint this time around. Take a lesson from Tekken 7 and have more to do than just arcade mode and a story mode you play through once. I wanna see some Chronicles of the Sword level game modes. Make this my favorite Soul Calibur game.

Bandai Namco should make a new Soul Caliber themed intro where, instead of Jin and Kazuya striking each other, it would be Siegfried and Nightmare clashing blades in front of a ragged banner bearing the Bandai Namco logo
Glad to see armor/cloth damage is back! It always felt rewarding and impactful when one of your combos destroyed their armor.

Ok I don't know if you got someone here at namco bandai who actually reads the comments here but let this be known: "Welcome back to the stage of history" was one of the things I said months ago and I harped on it a lot that if this is not said, game won't worth a damn. But you said it, so I got nothing but faith and good tidings towards the game.

Not that I'm questioning your desire for her to be sexier, but like...how? She's in a body suit with boob pockets so tight she may as well be in body paint. Like the only thing I can think that they could do is just say screw it and have her fight naked in actual red body paint with her privates catching the breeze.

zukoulou in the backstory for SV5 she was killed by Tira while trying to save Pyhra. Then Soul Calibur used her image to trick Patrokalos. After that I'm truly glad one of my favorite characters as returned at last.
Actually, Sophitia pretty much killed _herself_ if memory serves. She gave up the last shard of Soul Edge inside her body to save Pyrrha, which ended up killing her because the shard had embedded itself so close to her heart. (again, if memory serves... it's been a while)

Technically six years. (SC V was released back in January 31st of 2012)
But that's actually good because that shows that soul caliber is a solid quality fighting game that takes longer than a half-decade to release a new installment. And it's not milked lazily like other fighting games.
After the huge disappointment of Soul Calibur V I'm sure all of the dedicated veteran players and fans (such as myself) who grew up with this very unique series will love all of the new changes in gameplay. I am very hyped for this game and all that I would need to make my hype officially infinite would be if they bring back all of the original characters from the old games: Soul Edge, SoulCalibur, & SoulCalibur II.
I started with SC V, so I liked it of course! I haven't played Soul Edge etc...

If the 4chan leaks are true (which so far they have been), the Switch version will have Link back as a guest character

Raging Bull I ain't saying I'm good but I just don't think mastering all possible combos is optimal in every fighting game especially in high level play. I'm ready to fight you once this game comes out though. Wanna duke it out on Tekken or SF while we're at it?

Mercedes Mercedes exactly it's got a long time until the game goes gold probably a game release window as Tekken 7 so I really want it to be part of the core game than a paid mode later on, it added so much replay value for me in SC3, having your custom character level up, get stats, even having a morality of being evil or good depending on the clothing items equip and you had the nice system of building up defending your fortresses to progress to the boss and getting characters like seigfried or ivy to ally with you, doesn't have to be deep in story just to have what made the 1st iteration so fun you could play over and over that's what disappointed me about SCV you beat the story mode and never touched it again same with Tekken 7.

But I’m not sure what those super moves are about, critical edges but toned down? Also imo the camera is moving a bit too much but hopefully that’s just for cinematic effect.

Excellent news, but so far, neither character has soul still burning in their eyes - better work on those faces. It also serves as a reminder just how gorgeous SoulCalibur V was on last-gen hardware 6 years ago. Is this really the best we can do? In either case, I am very happy to see you back again, old friend
HarpoTheVillain I agree. The character models look very similar to SC4 and SC5. Sophitia's looks exactly the same. It's not the worst thing since SC4 and SC5 looked great but I kinda wanted to see Project Soul freshen up the aesthetics a bit.
Word. You can really tell this is Unreal Engine 4, it's got that UE4 look to it. Very clean, no sense of grit at all.

Really am hoping for Talim and Amy to get into this game. The game being set around SC1 does mean no Pyrrha, unfortunately, but hopefully Cassandra gets in, too. Gameplay looks really exciting though! Can't wait to try it out.

Yeah, I feel you. I'm a fan of Pyrrha (not my #1 fave though) but I'm willing to bite the bullet and let her go if necessary for the more famous Cass and Sophie getting some awesome details to compensate. I'll admit, I've never been a Sophitia fan but her SCVI incarnation's growing on me a lot already. Plus, there's nothing stopping me from revisiting SC5 for Pyrrha when I feel like it (at least she's not her freaking brother...)
