  • Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: The gospel of Jesus Christ creates and calls us into spiritual friendships. It sends you deeper into the heart of other brothers and sisters in Christ, giving you profundity and intimacy of relationships beyond anything you ever thought was possible with any other human being. This passage from the book of Acts appears to be a travelogue of the life of Paul, but in it we see principles of spiritual friendship: 1) Spiritual friendships are needed by all people; 2) they’re discovered through the immediate bond of the love of Jesus Christ; 3) they’re created through shared faith, prayer, possessions, feelings, and decision-making; 4) and will last forever.
    Scripture: Acts 20:36-21:8

One of my biggest struggles is to admit I need friends, teach me Lord and forgive me for the state of my heart.

Rewatching this…I’ve struggled to find a church that seems relevant to my life as it is, and this rewatching has made me double down to find a church where I think I can ‘fit’. Brothers and sisters in Christ, know I am with you. Praise Jesus.

So good to know that Jesus was the one who needed us, who needed friends. And there is no shame to admit that we need friends as well

I do not believe that Jesus "needed friends", but rather he chose to represent the perfect role of a spiritual friend. God never "needs" us, but rather he allows us to experience the goodness of communion. He doesn't need us because he is the definition of community via the trinity. I apologize if sound like a nitpick my brother, but I couldn't help but to clear that up bit. Blessings from NJ

Substitute 'Friend' with Brother (in Christ) and I can concur with his quite philosophical teaching.

I can testify that get in friendship with God FIRST. people who don't want to know God will keep away from you. People who knows God will join with you as friends. 🙏✝️

It’s a weird , difficult balance. You were literally hardwired-made for intimate relationship with God. But you were also made for friendships with others.

Outstanding! We need to grasp this in the church today.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful sermon! Indeed, Tim Keller pointed out so clearly one of the most important and crucial aspects of our lives: the unquestionable need for genuine spiritual friendships!

Thank you Pastor Keller. I love you and your family for the sacrifices you've made to share Jesus with all of us. You are truly a great father here on earth to us, and speaking personally, to me. May God bless you richly, brother Keller.

How l pray for a church go to I have no fellowship I’m lonely with a husband who just thinks I’m here just to be a servant not really his fault has mental health problems 🙏

Just pray and honestly ask Him, like talking to a friend or family: "Lord, I'm lonely. I want to find a church to fellowship with brothers and sisters in Christ and I know You want that for me too. Your Word says it. Please guide me to the right church. Show me where You know I need to be." Ask for specific things if you are looking for specific things too. He's a good Father, He'll show you. He did for me when I prayed for that same thing a couple years ago. First church I've found that was exactly what I was looking for, when I earnestly asked Him for one and to help me find one.

it's important that, once you find a church, you get into one of their small groups. (sometimes called neighborhood groups or life groups.) you can attend the same church every week for a year and not really make a friend because, we go in at service time, and leave when it's over. You may see people talking in the halls afterwards, but it may feel awkward to just try to join in (even though it shouldn't feel that way).
small groups let people really get to know one another and share their burdens. if the church doesn't offer small groups, i would honestly look elsewhere

@@monicalee392 well it’s like this my husband is in early stages of Alzheimer’s it is difficult with him to get himself interested in anything I find it embarrassing with him because he just won’t communicate I’m his caregiver I suppose it is my fault because there is a church but he tells me he doesn’t like it due to being a very old sit in pews dating back to 17th century it doesn’t bother me but is classified as high church Thanks for your interest x
