Apologies for all my poor pronunciation! The rice bowl we ate was Gyudon (which is what I said but a lot of you are thinking I said Udon and I need to fix the CC script) and also evidently the street is always closed in Ginza for part of the day on Sundays! I appreciate you all and your enthusiasm for this video - THANK YOU!❤❤❤

Hi Jen I agree you don't need a tour guide in Japan. I've been 3 times and have been self-guided each time. I just didthe research before I went.

Ginza closes the road on Sunday’s so everyone can more freely as opposed to week days when there is more traffic. I love when the road closes in Ginza. Seems more relaxed

Hi Jen. I'm actually having a blast watching your vlog taking in the sounds and sights in your maiden tour of Tokyo and Japan. It reminds me of how i felt when I first went to Japan before I settled here. You are quite the savvy shopper and traveler. Tanoshin de kangei suru :)

Longchamp is my go to travel bag. I have two and I love them. When we were in Paris I ended up with a Goyard, bucket list item! But the tax savings is so helpful!

Jen, during my travels, I discovered that when we make an effort to meet our host country or state half way, all goes well. If we also attempt to communicate in their country's language, regardless of how small the effort, this goes the extra mile too. They love it.
    LOVED the Longchamp bag💖
So glad you and your son had a marvelous time. Loved being included.

Love this vlog so much, the park looks great, I also have the blue Tote Bag (it’s great), but I must admit I would be very tempted to shop in the electronic stores like your son. I love gadgets!😂❤🤣❤️🤍🖤

I think you meant “donburi”, rice bowl, udon would be a noodle bowl, I think, love these videos though especially seeing how happy you are!

I fully agree, if one does a bit of homework before travelling to Japan, it isn't always necessary to require a tour guide. If anything, getting around on one's own increases the interaction with the Japanese (in comparison to one being in a "tour group"). Plus, if necessary, there are tourists centers operated by the government that will offer valuable assistance to visitors.
The main street through Ginza is Chuo Dori. On Sundays, it is closed off to vehicular traffic and becomes a "pedestrian mall" for much of the day. I assume this is when you were visiting Ginza. As an added note, for those checking out Ginza, try to time your visit just before the major department stores open (usually 10 AM). At the major entrances, you can observe the long-time opening ritual where employees politely bow to guests and open the doors at the precise time. Then if one walks through the store, the employees will bow and greet all the shoppers. My favorite department store in Ginza is Mitsukoshi, and they follow this custom impeccably.

They have one of those in the Japan pavilion at Walt Disney World. I wonder if that’s how they open that store in the morning? I’ve never been there at opening. I love shopping there.

  • @DodgerBlue189

The last part cracked me up. Gyu in gyudon means meat, so it's funny how the worker just gave you basically sauce, rice and cheese. I guess it would be like asking for spaghetti without the pasta with a language barrier. You would only get marinara sauce and parmesan cheese.

For you info, Ginza street(Chuo Dori ave.) is closed to traffic on Sat, Sun and Holiday, and shifted to a pedestrian zone from 12:00~17:00 from Oct to Mar and
    12:00~18:00 from Apr to Sep.

Love your bags! I've bought a few Longchamp bags recently and I'm so impressed. A black Pliage that will go with me on every trip and the navy Cuir a saw on your channel. Love how compact and classic they are. I think I'd have to take an empty suitcase to Japan especially with those tax discounts!

So learning moment for me....I actually stopped the video to look it up because I saw The Thinker and I was like wait, it's at the Rodin Museum in Philly. How is it there? There are apparently a lot of casts of it and the Philly one is just a cast, as well, since the original is in Paris and I had no idea. Yay for learning new things!

LOVE your videos. I must confess I couldn't watch your post about anxiety and perimenopause. I'm older than you are, post menopause, but also would wake up at about 2:30 every morning and experience extreme anxiety. I'm on progesterone (again!) and melotonin. You've convinced me to visit Kanazawa next Japan trip!

I'm guessing that the shops checked for your visa stamp. I live in Japan and think they'd probably give me no "duty free" discount based on my passport 😂 .
Oh, Gyudon (G-you-don). (Gyuniku is beef in Japanese) I thought you'd said Udon which is a bowl of noodles.
