As a drummer of 63 years of age, the three most influential drummers to me; Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, and Billy Cobham. Billy is the only surviving one, but the guy is still a bad MF'er!
I fell out of touch with Cobham's career 3 decades ago. Like all world-class musicians, I knew he wasn't just replaying his hits, but instead was evolving with the times and changing the way he approached his past songs. I say all this to explain that - despite knowing the above - I'm happily surprised by this arrangement. It's totally fresh and new, and Cobham is still on top of his game. Love it!
Alphonse Mouzon Dennis Chambers Billy Cobham Lenny white and Narada Michael Walden are the cream of the crop when it comes to African-American drummers these guys set the stage for big bad fast and aggressive drumming in a progressive Jazz that needed an injection of this mind-blowing drumming.
Billy Cobham is Panamanian, and don't forget Tony Williams. I got my first drum a Rogers snare in 1966 , my dad loved Buddy Rich so studied took private lessons learned to read, but my heart was in to early rock so my bought me Sandy Nelson records to keep me interested so of I was into the Dave Clark 5, the Beatles,Animals,Manfred Man, Hendrix, Cream, Yardbirds, The Doors, then in high school my friend who was like me a drummer in marching band turned me onto the Mahavisnu Orchestra and Wow ,then came Return To Forever, Weather Report, Larry Corell, after some research I found out that a lot of the 60's drummers were trained in jazz. I will always treasure those days . I'm left handed and play a right handed kit just like my mentor Billy Cobham. Met him in San Francisco in 1980 at a clinic what a nice guy. Steve Smith, Simon Phillips says Billy Cobham was a big influence on their playing style.
@@GarthWatkins-th3jt i am enjoying him since the MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA ....and i met him after a very nice Concert here in Hannover ...Northern Germania ...
Still in the pocket as ever. Took my girl to see him in Orlando the Carr? on Orange. This girl required lots of atttention that I could normally do but not Billy Cobham night. I was attentive to one thing and it was on the stage. He had those thundering basses over floor toms. Thanks.
He is amazing the level of energy and how he keeps the groove second to none. I saw him before the pandemic at blue note revisiting crosswinds withe the likes of breaker at trumpet and an outstanding baboon keyboard etc. Honestly I agree he merits a better band much punch and more fidelity to the original composition
I don't care if the drum set was backwards and inside out it's Billy Cobham and he's jamming on the one and annihilating his drums like he always has... and if you've never had the opportunity to see him live then you don't know what you're missing

Fantastisch! 👌Danke für's Hochladen.
Listen to all of Quadrant 4 with a good set of headphones. The mix and sound alone are brilliant, then and now.

STRATUS - from album SPECTRUM (Billy Cobham) 1973
LEGENDARY Panamanian Barista.
In my country "barista" is the one who works at the bar and makes cappuccino and coffees 😂👍
Bravooooo

Sorry R brecker at trumpet and an incredible one playing bassoon. Apart from a super keyboard and bass guitar players
Tama yeaahh!
Sei il mito della Batteria
Saw him in Detroit. 1978. Randy Jackson from American Idol on bass
That TILTED TAMA logo is driving me crazy....
😂
I'd have to sort that😅
IDIOT.
Turn your head 19.35 degrees to the left.....

Dolla' bill!
Cool setup
Pretty sure Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, Marco Minnemann, Danny Carey, all learned from him. Seriously brilliant.
Still got his chops!

🙌🙌🙌❤🥁👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
🤘😎🔥👍
Who's the guitarist?..
He's killing that solo..
sounds like Alan Holdsworth..
Anyone know what the snare is .?
Imagine if this was mixed properly instead of this quite good camera sound
I genuinely dont understand his set up. His tom arrangement just seems to be completely random.
孝三さんの方が早く行っちゃったのかよ。。
Hit the drums hard, please...

Bılly efsane bir davulcudur
Those horns sound so wrong in that tune
Tama drums always seem to sound like shit
Billy needs a new band.
I agree.
Is it me or do the horns sound flat?
O ya Billy and Mahavisnu Orchestra❤❤❤
