@@durianriders I get what you mean here. He rode exactly as hard as he needed to do to win. His overall average of 318 is by no means superhuman, lots of pros have done similarly. What impresses me the most is being able to do those absolute monstrous attacks at the tail end of doing 318 for five hours. He dropped WvA and Pogačar on Le Tolfe with 738w for a straight minute and then dropped Alaphilippe on the Santa Caterina with a 1,000w for 20 seconds, max of 1362w. That IS crazy, no matter how you look at it.
But I can see how some might construe your comment as “Phil can do more watts”. When that’s certainly not true in any regard. MvdP would outshine Phil in anything concerning watts, max watts, watts per kilo on FTP, etc. I say this as a big Phil Gaimon fan, by the way. For what it’s worth.

Big favourite for Sanremo ! I do not see Van Aert get stronger fast enough, he was not completely at his top. Alaphilippe ? I do not know, but I think so because he is second. MVDP lost some weight, and that makes quite some difference. Hopefully VA can follow the other 2 on the Poggio, a,d then sprint for it. Likely, they want VA at his best at the Tour of Flanders and ROUBAIx, and all others. I doubt if the Golden Race will be organised...
And I want to see this MVDP in liege and for sure at the Mur of Huy. Question: will he still be as strong then as now ?

It was a great race, the only thing that would have made it better for me as an American is if Simmons hadn't gotten that flat so we could have seen how much he could hang with the big guns. Alas, that's racing.

Simmons should have been riding Vittoria like MVDP. And oh yeah, fuck Trek.
