I wonder how much of Hawthorn's success under Clarkson can be attributed to his assistants. Many of his assistants went on to become senior coaches at other clubs (Damien Hardwick, Chris Fagan, Adam Simpson, Luke Beveridge, Leon Cameron to name a few). Clarkson was obviously the main man responsible for the style of play Hawks were known for, but they all would have been feeding ideas to each other to make the team better. I can't imagine there is much of that at North Melbourne right now.

@LDSports933 ✅ Very true...and Hawthorn's 2004 draft picks in Alastair Clarkson's first draft at the Hawks: Roughead ( Pick 2 ), Lance Franklin ( Pick 5 ) and Jordan Lewis ( Pick 7 )...Also, Luke Hodge and Sam Mitchell were already playing when Clarko arrived. 08 05 2024
🏈 North Melbourne...proof that if you run your club very incompetently, the draft and other clubs' salary caps can't save you...( And some other clubs being a lot richer does not help either ). 08 05 2024
